FAQ

What is Buzzwordz Trivia?

Buzzwordz is a live trivia game at your favorite pub.  Each location has a Buzzwordz host that will ask a series of questions in various categories, with questions increasing in value as the game proceeds.  The questions are unique every day, and are not pulled from Jeopardy or Trivial Pursuit.  Our questions are written, not copied.  Our trademarked video presentation gives you time to come up with your answer, instead of the host having to shout out a question five times.

Does it cost anything to play?

No!  Trivia is free to play, and most locations offer drink and food specials on trivia night.  You can have teams of up to six people, so make it your weekly night out!

How long does it last?

Trivia events last right around two hours.

What do I get if I win the game?

Prizes vary by location, but include free drinks, free food, and gift certificates to the pubs!  I don’t think you could make a living playing trivia, but it could sure make a cheap night out with your friends.

Where can I play?

You can find our calendar of events here.

I own a pub or restaurant.  Why should I choose Buzzwordz?

Our trademarked presentation features a video display, which any player will tell you makes the game more enjoyable.  Rather than blasting music mash-ups or blaring heavy-metal “name that tune” while people are trying to enjoy a conversation, our trivia is non-intrusive.  That is a big deal if you have a large venue where part of the place wants to play trivia and part of it does not.  We find that many non-players have just as good a time as players, since we do not impede on their ball game, juke box, or attempts to impress their date.

Our hosts are trained to engage your crowd, and to make friends while working.  It takes a little time to build a following, but trivia players are loyal and consistent.  Soon you will see a small group grow into a big crowd.

But I’m not a large venue…would Buzzwordz work for me?

Of course!  Many of our smaller venues get packed on Tuesday or Wednesday night.  When you would normally have four or five people at the bar, we will see 40 to 60 people to light up sales!  If you would like music to go along with your event, we’ll provide that too!

But, couldn’t I just put on my own trivia show?

Writing a full set of unique trivia questions takes about eight hours.  Add in setup, breakdown, and the performance itself, you are looking at twelve hours a week to put on an event.  If a bar manager or owner has enough time and patience to do this, well, go for it!

With our company, you get all of that, plus quality monitoring of questions and hosts, video presentation, target marketing, our interactive blog, your company info on our web page, and on and on and on.  Let us do our job, and you can have time to do yours.

I want trivia, and my Karaoke DJ said he could do it cheap.

Would you have your gardener repair your car if he said he could do it for a great price?  Of course not.  This is not something that we do on the side.  Trivia is our business, and quite frankly, we’re good at it.  We could tell you that we will run your poker night, but that’s not what we do.  We are very reasonably priced and offer multiple billing options.

Do you require a contract?

NO WAY!  Our policy is that if Buzzwordz is not working for your location, then you shouldn’t have to be locked into some six month or one-year contract.  We have confidence that you will see increased revenue, and will never want to get rid of us.  Contracts are messy, too.  Why stress when you don’t have to?

What else do you guys do?

– Alumni groups that want to liven up their football Saturdays can get one of our great, lively hosts to pump up the crowd.
– Specialty events, like hosting the Super Bowl, Oscar night, Weddings, corporate events, private parties, or whatever you need.  We will custom-build a program for your needs.

OK, I’m interested.

I’ve seen Buzzwordz and would love to host.

We’re always looking for great, outgoing personalities.  If you have a laptop, are great on a microphone, and love trivia, just email us at tobin@buzzwordz.net.

Where did you get that phrase, “Killing the Weak Brain Cells?”

We have good old Cliff Claven of Cheers to thank for that one:

“Well ya see, Norm, it’s like this… A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo.  And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first.  This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells.  But naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first.

In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine.  That’s why you always feel smarter after a few beers.”

That sounds pretty reasonable to us.
