Lovely night subbing at Woody’s this week. Congrats to the Tebowners (FYI sounds like boner if pronounced incorrectly) for sweeping the night! But more importantly, the team with my favorite Halloween costume idea was team Pretty Pwny–the Mayhem guy from those car insurance commercials. Very clever. Coming in second was Steve Jobs from team Live Badass. Needless to say I was not able to steal either of these ideas for myself but well done on some fabulous ideas.

This week’s round of Buzzwordz Trivia was BIG! We had fourteen teams and a double tie breaker in the second round when The Refs and Oui Oui both had the same answer. We had a lot of new participants including  Ganja Babe, Scotty, Full House, and Harpua’s Nutbag. A three-way second place tie between  Jeff PCMT, Nine Spot, and Harpua’s Nutbag resulted in Jeff PCMT winning second place! We welcomed back teams Building 7, and  Jeepers Creepers from a short hiatus. In the end, Oui Oui took home the gold with a total of 45 points!

This was the HIGHEST scoring game of trivia I have EVER hosted! Nine teams competed AND all nine completed the game. The kings of trivia at Woody’s were nearly de-throned, but that will have to wait for another battle. A tie breaker in round 2 between Cylons and Claude Bawls resulted in a round of shots for Claude Bawls. Building 7, a team constructed of a few regulars and the occasional recruited stranger, have been picking up a lot of steam in the last few weeks. Glendale’s Finest were unfortunately not Buzzwordz’ finest, but they have next week to rewrite the story. Scoring over fifty points, Claude Bawls took home the glory of first, followed VERY closely by Just Put Something.

Woody’s Wood-Fired Tavern on Evans was PACKED for Trivia on Thursday night. 6 teams competed for some great Woody’s gift certificates and some shots! Care Bear Stare stepped up to the challenge this week, but there can only be one and Hairy Poodini took home the grand prize. We had some players new to trivia, Rockie’s Blew It and The Dukes and they both scored high. Jeepers Creepers kept it close the whole game, just narrowly losing the third round. Way to get your groove on at Woody’s Wood-Fired Tavern!

Summer time and the livin’s easy, but the trivia isn’t so easy at Woody’s Wood-Fired Tavern! We had nine teams participate, which is the biggest group I have ever had as your trivia host! We had some late-starters as well as some early finishers but every team did great! Resident Weevil took home the grand prize, as well as the first and second round prizes. Collie Man has been coming in steady at second place the last couple of week’s and tonight they came close to taking home the prize! As always, Jerry and Norma carve out a niche with the categories they nail. JeffPCMT was our solo player who racked up as many points as some of our bigger teams, and our other solo trivia player Bazinga! came in late but hit it hard in the third round. Such a great night, and the trivia is only going to heat up as summer rolls in!

We had a great three rounds of trivia at Woody’s Wood-Fired Tavern on Thursday night! The summer is creeping up on us and Woody’s is a great spot to keep cool! We had a total of eight teams throughout the night. Some late-starters and a one man team both proved that you don’t need a full team, or the full game for that matter, to at keep up with the pack. Loose Tool picked up the grand prize of the night, as well as the round prizes for the first and second round. Despite starting in the third round Nighthawks nailed almost every question asked. Our teams of two were Team Rudy and Jerry and Norma. Balls of Fire, or, Balls of Fuego, kept right up with the lead teams right down to the end. All in all it was a great night and it’s always a blast being your trivia host at Woody’s Wood-Fired Tavern!

Woody’s Wood-Fired Tavern on Evans had a great crowd of people for Trivia on Thursday night. 4 teams competed for shots and some great Woody’s gift certificates and it was neck-and-neck all night! There can only be one champion of the night, and this week it was Golden Rod. We had some players new to trivia, We’re Awesome, and they did fantastic. Bazinga, a team of one, proved that sometimes even one man with one mind can keep pace with entire teams.

Shooting for Penultimate kept things so close it was nearly a photo finish, but Golden Rod was our Round One AND Round Two winner, so they enjoyed the benefits of several free rounds of drinks.

Last night was a great night for Buzzwordz trivia!  I appreciate the welcome as a new host!

We had a lot of great teams at Woody’s!  Team Bettis, Jerry and Norma, Rapture Lips Around This, Hot Tamales, D and Rebbeca, and Rockstars!

Round I led to a tie breaker between Team Bettis and Rapture Lips Around This, with the fellas from Rapture Lips Around This winning the round.   Hot Tamales then came back in rounds II and especially III, but it was only enough to come just short of a final game tie-breaker!  Rapture Lips Around This went home as the big winner’s this week!

Thanks everybody for such a great time!

Woody’s: What’s in a (good) name? May 6, 2011

Hello Woody’s.

Before I get too far into this blog, please let me go on a Dennis Miller type rant for a little while.

I like this job. I like to meet the teams, the waitresses and bartenders. Overall, it’s a fun job. I don’t ask for much, but could you humor me a little please?

Let’s work on the team names.

To wit. Lets. look at a few of the team names from last night’s game. Geno, George, Samantha and Eric.

Really?

I’m assuming that everyone that plays has a triple digit IQ. Am I asking too much to have something  original for me? Please?

Ok. I’m done with my ranting. On to the results.

Stanko Day Mayo, (Now that’s a team name) started off strong and never took the foot off the trivia accelerator all night, scoring a perfect ten points, including the Email Bonus Question.  George was in second with GTB, (another good team name, but it’s a family place, so I only used the initials) There was a 3 way tie between Gingerbread, Geno, Happy Herbs and Samantha and Eric.

In round 2, SDM almost lapped the field with Happy Herbs in 2nd and George in third.

The final round saw Stanko Day Mayo throttle to a huge victory over Happy Herbs, with Samantha and Eric in third.

Lets’ try to get some decent team names for next week. Your humble trivia host does not ask for much.

Woody’s Likes the NFL Draft April 29, 2011

So The NFL draft first round had started only a bit before I arrived at Woody’s decked out in my alma mater gear

Thanks to Lazercats for the pic of the week!

(because I am obsessed with the NFL draft).  I tried some 49 cent wings today as well and they were pretty tasty, but I think I prefer the pizza.  A lot of my regular teams were missing, which made me sad, but I can only assume you all were off having NFL draft parties of your own, and I completely understand.  This week, we learned why teams shouldn’t come up with ridiculously long names.  Keep that in mind for next week…

…While I tell y’all about our teams.  This week we had Boozehounds, Lazercats, Holy Schlitz!, Team Puffy Fluffy Puppy Sparkle Purple Pants, The Proton Pack, Boomshakalaka, Cap, and J.A.S.O.N.S. (whose full name I don’t remember because it was really long as well).

The first round ended with Boomshakalaka and Puffy Fluffy Puppy Sparkle Purple Pants vying for the victory.  Puffy Fluffy Puppy Sparkle Purple Pants came out on top.

Puffy Fluffy Puppy Sparkle Purple Pants also earned the second round victory.

The game ended in a tie between Boomshakalaka and Puffy Fluffy Puppy Sparkle Purple PantsBoomshakalaka won the tie breaker, and therefore the game, while Puffy Fluffy Puppy Sparkle Purple Pants came in second.

Thanks to everyone who came out and played and maybe next week we can all have shorter team names?  See you all on the Cinco, ciao!

First place: Boomshakalaka

J.A.S.O.N.S. (Sorry I don't remember what the acronym stood for, guys.)

Lazercats

Second place: Puffy Fluffy Puppy Sparkle Purple Pants
