Mellow Mushroom–At least it was just water. September 30, 2010

No, it wasn’t me. But I did try to help clean up the man who was spilled on. I can still remember the first time my food tray, holding an extra large pizza, did a face plant into the restaurant floors….Might I add that the staff at Mellow Mushroom downtown is fabulous?

This week the Pretty…I mean Team Only Team reclaimed their title as trivia champs. The Hoosiers scored second best, winning the second gift certificate. But it was Doug and Scott, both groups despite the names, that gave TOT a run for their money. Scott and TOT tied in round 1, but TOT’s knowledge of medals of honor gave them the advantage they needed to take the tiebreaker.

I apologize for my high level of slackerness last night in failing to get pictures of many of the teams. Will bring A-game next week.

EC Time standing up for their love of trivia

Hoosiers--from busboy to trivia genius...

This is a terrible shot of Team Only Team but a split second before they had their heads down in deep trivia discussion. These guys take trivia seriously!

Tonight was a special night at Woody’s that included the obvious round of shots, but then… Bronco Tickets thanks to the Bud Sponsors!!

We had 9 teams come out and show their love to Woody’s and Trivia tonight and round one was a touch one.  We had teams K Read Club,  WTF is Juke and Team Abba Zabba bringing up the rear. Team Dandy coming in next.  Teams T & T, Drunk Spandiards and Tim, and Nothin’ Butt Meat tying for second. And Shockingly, for the third straight week team Goyz n’ Tha Hood taking the first (and second) round of shots! I think this team has really honed in on the true trivia skill set. I mean Seriously, Three Straight Weeks!!!

Team T & T pulled through in the third round to end up taking second place and taking home a Woody’s gift card (hopefully to be used Next Thursday!)

All in All a great night of regulars and some new kids!

Dandy (thanks for playing!!  Hope to see you next week)

Nothin’ Butt Meat ( great name, great team)

Reining Champs – Goyz n’ Tha Hood

Team Bud (thanks for providing free beer to the participants!!)

K Reed Club (thanks for coming out Sleepy)

Second Place Champs – T & T

What an amazing first night at Uptown Brothers Bar!  We had some trivia enthusiasts come out for night one of many.  Kicking it off we ended Round 1 with EOS & 3’s Company bringing up the rear, 8 Ducks & Beeranater coming in tied for 4th, Asher Green Bullet soloing 3rd place, Team Diversity & Dirty Hookers tied for 2nd and the Round Winners were Touched by a Monkey.  They won the first round of Tuesday night Shots!

Round two was nothing but competitive between the teams with almost all the teams getting atleast one point out of the two points that are possible per Round 2 question.  And personally I think the world would be a happier place if LCD fell from the sky, nice try Beeranater

Overall, we had four dedicated teams sick out all three rounds fighting for the gift cards to Uptown Brothers Bar with Beeranater in the caboose, 3’s Company in the 3rd car, Team Diversity in the 2nd car (and taking home a $10 gift card) and Dirty Hookers in the engine taking home a $25 gift card.

8 Ducks (Hope to see you next week!)

Team Diversity (2nd place Champs )

3’s Company (thanks for playing ladies!)

Beeranater (Nice job for being a team of one!  See you next week!!)

Dirty Hookers (Overall Champs! Be sure to come back to use that gift card next Tuesday)

We will see everyone next Tuesday, 7:30p!  Be there or Be Square

Old Chicago Superior: All Tied Up… September 27, 2010

Our triviaphiles were on FIRE on Friday night at Old Chicago in Superior. We had not one, not two, but THREE tie-breakers during our game.

Round One ended up in a three way tie between The Reavers, The Spearheads and Novus, with The Reavers coming closest and winning themselves a shiny pitcher of beer for their efforts.

The Reavers

Round Two ended with yet another three-way tie between The Reavers and a new set of adversaries: Grease Monkey and The Latecomers (who, as their name suggests, showed up late and missed Round One. Oops) This time around, though, Grease Monkey took home the pitcher. Well, he didn’t take it HOME… he took it to his seat at the bar but you know what I’m talking about, right?

Grease Monkey (and friends)

The Round Three tie-breaker was a final showdown between our two round-winning champs of the evening: Grease Monkey and The Reavers and the winner was…. drumroll… Grease Monkey! The Latecomers and the Spearheads were tied for Third Place behind them and Novus wasn’t far behind. Also playing that night were Team Tough, Cal Pride, and the Packers but all those crazy kids had to turn in before the game was over.

The Latecomers (I can't imagine how great they'll do next week when they are on time!)

Until next Friday night, friends. Make sure to bone up on your random facts!

Mellow Mushroom–do NOT call them pretty boys! September 24, 2010

Try as they might have, the Braylon Edwards School of Driving (there’s a scary idea) could not top the powerhouse team Cox this week at Mellow Mushroom trivia. And boy were they pissed!! I’ve never seen anyone refuse perfectly delicious SoCo lime shots. After some passionate arguing between the two teams after round 2, team Cox insisted that I give BESD their prized shots…as long as I agreed to change their team name to the Pretty Boys. I won’t tell you what happened when I dropped the shots off, but it wasn’t pretty. haha. Let’s just say the shots weren’t taken but the shot glasses were empty.

Congrats to team Cox for taking first in rounds 1, 2 and overall. Happy Birthday Lauren Travis tied with Cox in round 3 for the win and came in second overall. Also of noteworthy pointage (yes it’s a word. as of right now.) was the Team Q, Team KY, and Team Energy. See you all next week!

Team Cox wanted tome to disguise this photo so I hope this works

the Braylon Edwards School of driving truly struggled with not winning anything but you can't tell from this photo

I swear this whole mass of people is not team Happy Birthday Travis not Lauren

oh the Fuzzbuckets--thanks for the line about my ears not being handles. I'll be sure to use it next time.

Second night at Woody’s Wood Fired Tavern was a Spectacular night of returning teams and some newbies.  Round one picked up in the second half with most teams starting to get in their trivia groove (or atleast starting to enjoy the $4.50 Absolutes…).  We finished Round one with Orton’s Neck Beard bringing up the rear, The Aldens coming in 3rd, a foursome for 2nd place between T & T , TigerSharks, Team This Guy and Team Diversity.  Team Pen Island came in first winning the first round of test tube shots (WooHoo).

Round two and three were all pretty close with teams The Aldens, T & T, Tiger Shark and Ortons Neck Beard tying for 3rd place, Team Diversity rolling in at 2nd and of course, Team Pen Island taking round two for the SECOND round of free shots (Shots Shots Shots ShotsJ )

Overall, the now undefeated champs of Woody’s Trivia Pen Island took home the $25 gift card to Woody’s and newbies Team Diversity took home 2nd winning them a $15 gift card to Woody’s.

Old Chicago Lakewood; Hey Kool-Aid! September 22, 2010

Greetings from Old Chicago Lakewood.

A good crowd greeted me Tuesday. It was a mix of regulars; I was Dead at the Time, Stumpy, Crimson Tide, Wadsworth Nuts and Blackout, and some newbies. I was asked if I could give extra credit for the regulars. My reply was, that’s why you get the Email Bonus Point. If a one-timer shows up to play, they probably won’t know anything about the Bonus Question.

I Was Dead at the Time used the aforementioned EBQ to take a one point win in the first round. They edged out Wadsworth Nuts. I found out that most of the ‘Nuts work at Coors’ Field, and that is why they have not been around much lately. Good for the Rockies, bad for me. GNO ( Girls Night Out) tied for second as well.

Round 2 saw the ‘Nuts take a one point lead over IWDATT and Stumpy. Peter Nincompoop arrived to play the second round. They thought we started at 8:00. Oops.

The final round had a great finish between GNO and IWDATT. After checking with the official scorer, a change in the scores between those two teams and Peter Ninconpoop saw a slightly different end score. We ended up with GNO taking the gold, IWDATT silver, and Blackout playing a steady game and rounding out the top three.

Until next week.

Our trivia teams were back in full force last Friday at Old Chicago in Superior and they were all in it to win it. We had most of our regulars there on Friday along with a whole bunch of newbies, so it was a nice mix of smart people. Smart people who really, really need to look at their state flags… I’m just sayin’ 🙂

Okay, onto the results! The winner of Round One was the appropriately named Mmmmm Beer:

Mmmmm Beer and their beer

The Second Round champ was Deep Fried Monkey, who was also the champion for the entire evening. Good job, Monkey!

Deep Fried Monkey

Our second place team for the evening was Milk Was a Bad Choice, who rocked out in the 3rd Round and almost caught up to our Monkey Champion up there. Almost, but nooooot quite. Congrats, Milk.

Milk Was A Bad Choice

Also playing, we had my favorite Joss Whedon-a-philes The Browncoats. I told them that if they won, I’d play the Firefly theme in their honor… but they didn’t. Next week, guys! Bring it!

The Browncoats

Rocktober also rocked it all night long, along with Free Beer, Team Rice, Joe & Bruce and Boats n’ Ho’s. I just need to say how AMAZING this entire group is with sports trivia… I had to google all the sports questions and still got most of the names wrong, but all my players had the answer slips to me almost before I finished reading the questions. Daaaaaaamn, guys! Color me impressed.

When I walked into the Castle Wednesday night, I was not sure if I had entered the right place. The Texas Hold’em game was in full swing. ( They start at 7:00. I start  at 8:00)  We had a few snazzy dressers that were playing and just sitting around the bar area. I found out that their was a big party that a few of the players had attended before coming over to the bar for cards and trivia. I was looking  for a red velvet rope to prevent me from entering the bar. But, if they let me in, they will let anyone in.

Ok, we started the game with Royal Bitches wining soundly. They did not even need the Email Bonus Question this week. But it is always good to have. They defeated the snappy dressers, Zoot Suit Tuesday and a tie for third between Jonesie and Team Green.

Round two had Team Green use a slow steady pace to take the round. The  Zoot Suiters came in second and Jonsie plaed third.

The final round saw a new team, and sharp dressers, Hat, take third. A tie between Jonesie and Royal Bitches saw the ‘Bitches take the round and the overall win by one point

ie, learn some Russian knowledge Comrade.

Until next week.
