Woody’s was a little more hoppin this week thanks to a great crowd! We started the night strong and almost all of the teams stayed for the whole night!
Round 1 was close with J^2, Cornhuskers, and Jim all tied for second place! First place was also a tie between Lando and Notorious VIP. VIP ended up winning that one, but I had a feeling that there would be plenty more head to head where that came from!
Round 2 proved me right with another tie for second between Slappin Da Bass and The A Girls. First place went to Lando who nailed all of the super nerdy questions no one else knew!
Not to be outshone, Notorious VIP used his double up at a key moment when everyone was neck and neck. Too bad for new team Truffel Shuffel and Lando because in that one strategic move VIP sealed up first place in the round. But was it enough to get him overall win for the night??
Turns out it was! He snuck ahead of Lando to win by just 3 points! Not far behind was Slappin Da Bass and The A Girls.
Thanks for coming out everyone! I’ll see you all next week, same bat time, same bat place!

J^2 and Notorious VIP got the only real camera shot of the night before my battery died... at least I got a 2 for 1!

Truffel Shuffel was the first of my cell phone pictures...

Cornhuskers was just one, so not a TOO bad cell phone shot!

Poor Slappin Da Bass... I made them pose about 10 times before I finally realized the picture from a cell phone can only get so good...
Hey, I know you… and you… and… August 30, 2009

After the last 3 weeks with a majority of new faces, tonight was like old home week. 7 of the 12 teams were regulars, some from the distant past and some not-so-distant. It sure was good to see so many familiar faces.
And with so many regulars, they were all up for a knock-down, drag-out fight.
So no surprise that we had a 3-way tie for first in round 1. Between Doof Tards, Myke Hawk & the Jack Hoffs, and Yes, That, we had something happen that had never happened before… two teams tied in the tie-break! So rather than draw out the agony, we gave Myke Hawk and Yes, That both pitchers of beer.
And Like Sitting on a Wookie, Beers for Fears and Haiku, were within 1 point of those leaders!
We lost Doof Tards, Team Kelso, and Ugly Guys before round 2 got underway, but it didn’t change up the fierce competition.
For round 2 there was no need for a tie-break as Myke Hawk won by 1/2 point! With Wookie Sitters, Brand New Sprinkles, Boats n Ho’s, Yes, That and Beers for Fears nippin’ at their heels.
The BBQ went to Beers for Fears but they were only a couple of 100 thousand closer than Castration Station on a population question… c-c-c-l-o-s-e!
So Boats n Ho’s gave up the ghost but that left 6 of the regulars still there plus 3 newbies. No one was givin’ up their chance at OC moola!
Wookie Sitters pulled ahead for the win in round 2, and with enough clearance to pull of top points for the evening. But there were tons of team vying for 2nd top points overall. Myke Hawk should have won, seeing that they were first in the first two rounds but the last round was a bit of a let down, which gave Yes, That and Beers for Fears the opening they needed. Yes That and Beers tied for 2nd, and after a tie-break, Beers walked away with the final gift certificate of the evening.
Wow, tight battle all the way around.
A shout out to Mighty Boosh for supplying 31 style points for the evening! And Castration Station and Renegades, I’m pulling for you next time! And Haiku, Brand New Sprinkles, and Boats n Ho’s – you newbies have got game, so I hope to see you back next week!
Ciao for now,
– Keith
Obama nearly sweeps the game August 30, 2009

It was a tough night of competetion at Charlie’s this week for trivia. We had a couple teams that were out for blood, well free beer, ok, blood. I’m sorry that my blog is delayed, but sometimes things more exciting happen, yeah, sorry.
Strapped for Obama won second and third round. They took the game by two points. Boy, were they excited! I know there were some hurt feelings from this team and I want to apologize. Unfortunately, rules are rules. I know, it’s like I follow any other rules in my life, but I’d rather not get flogged by other players.
Second place went to Alleycat. They scored the first pitcher and then won themselves second in the game. They had some of the same returning players.
Third place went to Drink and Scream. I’m not sure what they were drinking that made ’em want to scream. They were a new team that was pretty strong. With a few weeks of practice, they might be able to kill a regular team.
We had others that played too:
They thought it was hard, I think they were drunk. P&G was back in the game this week tryin to win it.
They named their team Kick Ass, cause they thought they would. But… they played for two rounds and left. Guess 75¢ beers kicked their ass! 😉 Ok really, I don’t know why they left early.
Zeffrey played a round and then snuck out. I’m pretty sure that they will come back though, cause I made him promise. I love that boys at Charlie’s will promise you anything, even when they don’t know you.
I don’t even remember what he looked like, cause he turned in just a couple of answers. Mike managed to score himself two points this game.
Lash always goes by a different name and always gives me reasons why he can’t play the whole game. For some reason, his real name always slips my mind.
I can’t wait to play again next week!!

Don’t Look at Me Like That! August 28, 2009

I got quite a lot of evil looks last night (certainly during the arts and lit questions!) at Old C’s on Grant St. Mangina won round 1 overtaking Ball & Chain, Vacationers, and I’m Buzzed! and got that bucket of beer.
In round 2 deAragon and Poop joined in to give our leader a challenge. However, first place went to I’m Buzzed who slipped past Beer Me at the last second! We decided to do a bonus question for another bucket of beer which went to deAragon.
Hanzilla showed up for round 3 after a looooonnnnggggg absence! We missed him! Mangina made one more run at the top spot but taking round 3 winnings was I’m Buzzed.
Top place overall went to I’m Buzzed with Beer Me beating out Mangina for second place.
I’m looking forward to seeing everyone next week when we start our month long tournament! Come to play, come to win!!
See you all next week, same bat time, same bat place!

Welcome Back Hanzilla! What? did you get camera shy while you were gone?

deAragon enjoyed some free beer after winning the bonus question!

I'm Buzzed is giving a high five for first place!

Vacationers were bundled up in the corner! Maybe the A/C was distracting them!

Congratulations John (he's the one in the back) on his wedding this weekend! Single no more... Mangina forever!

Taking second is Beer Me!

Team Bozos. Try to sleep at night after looking at this picture.
Tuesday night at the Big Apple Cafe should serve as a lesson to all trivia players out there, perseverence pays off.
After the first round of trivia, I had the top four teams take off. They had told me they wouldn’t be able to stick around the entire night, but were insistent that I allow them to play. After all, who am I to tell people they can’t have a great time and play some awesome trivia?! So the winning team from the end of the round as well as their closest competitors all take off to get to their bowling league (it’s ok, we don’t have a Buzzwordz Bowling League……yet). From that moment on, it was anyone’s game.

Team UK/US was never in the lead until the final question!
A few regulars teamed up in the second round once they sensed the door was wide open to claim the prizes. The Bozos were declared the winners of round 2 and, headed into the final round, the game was shaping up for quite the exciting finish. As always, the game did not disappoint. On the final question, team UK/US (a very pleasant chap from across the pond) whose US teammate had ditched him had just edged out trivia regulars the Toadies. The Bozos, fresh off their second round heroics, finished only 3 points out of the top spot.

The Toadies finished one point back for second place.
until next time…..

These guys play almost every week and rarely place, so when they do it makes up for all their perseverance! I was glad to Samsons Keepers squeak by with a one point victory last night at City Pub. We had a couple of very promising new teams that stayed over from dinner to play. We even had one of my old teammates make a surprise appearance. It was new team Inglorious Bastards that had to settle for the $15 2nd place prize, lost to the narrowest of margins. McDrunken took third while Flying Dog didn’t have enough knowledge to make the final cut. Swingers had to swing and fell to last.
Join us next Wednesday for what is sure to be Denver’s most affordable martini night!

First round went to Phred, who kept changing names throughout the night just to keep me on my toes.
Second round went to Cheatin Cheaters who had two new players tonight, and took it over Catch 22 and Irish banditos.
Third round went to Phred, over a tie breaker with Fresh Frozen Fish and Foreplay!
1st place – Cheatin Cheaters 41 pts
2nd place – Phred 40 pts
See you next week!

Following a tough Rockies game, we had a tough bingo game just down the street. Bingo at Blake Street Tavern was a good way to end the weekend. Some of were recovering from hangovers, and some were just getting one started. Last week was my birthday, this week was Lisa’s. She’s a regular for the bingo night. Happy Birthday again, Lisa!
Lisa (not the birthday girl) won her table a bucket of beers. Kristin, who left before pictures, won the round of shots. Then Soto. Oh Soto. He won the next three rounds. He scored himself two gift certficiates, two buckets of beer, and two Rockies tickets. I think he’s gonna be callin’ in sick to work on September 3rd to take advantage of those tickets. (if you were paying close attention, I didn’t announce that anyone won the tv- so that’s still up for grabs).
As usual, a good time was had by all. See you next sunday!
