Tuesday at the Glenn with Preacher June 25, 2008

Tuesday Night at the Glenn was…well, ok I’ll say it, I was late, OK?!? I’m sorry, I’m sorry I’m sorry. But good things come to those who wait because as always it was food, fun, and a bunch of merrily drunk triviateers hounding me about how wrong I am. Round 1 started as normal with teams Mad Dog and God’s of Wrong Answers dominating the field. However with their hilarious answer team Rendezvous kept at their heels the entire way. By question #10, it was a close game, but the starting favorites won out, making it a tie breaker for the miles of I-90, and winning by only 23 miles, team Mad Dog are your victors.
In round 2, team Fruitcake Interpretation got a laugh with their misinterpretation of the terms “withdrawal” and “pull out” leading them to answer completely inappropriately for the first question. How ever the rest of the round proceeded (almost) without incident. (Though Team Mad Dog thinks they’re clever by handing me random trivia that they’ve come up with…like anyone cares about prosciutto ham). The winners of the round, the ever present Gods of Wrong Answer cinching it with their knowledge, of well, knowledge.
Round 3 started with a tribute to the late great George Carlin, then proceeded with me butchering a host of Nordic names. I was wholly disappointed with everyone in the bar for not knowing their Heroes trivia, since it is (remember this it may someday be a question for a bazillion points) the most awesome show almost ever. Team Shell Bell made an unprecedented run for first time contestants, but, alas, the winner of the round, once again, is team God’s of Wrong Answers.

It was a nice and relaxing time at the Glenn this Tuesday. The beer was flowing, the patrons were laughing, and the difficulties were technical. After a brief delay because the S-Video faeries decided to play hookie, we were up and running with a brilliant Round 1. Highlights included team Mad Dog going through nearly 49 states before figuring out the longest coastline is in a bit colder climate than Florida and team We Won’t Win and Gods of Wrong Answers battling it out with a near perfect round (apparently no one has ever seen or heard of any movie ever called “About a Boy”). With a twist befitting an M Night film, team We Won’t Win pulled into the lead and took the round with perfect Grab Bag answers.
Round 2 saw slightly tougher questions, which of course means slightly wronger answers (shut up, it is too a word). Despite no one being quite sure on the women’s tennis champion or Pimpernel’s nationality, teams Mad Dog and We Won’t Win battled out for first throughout the round and into a tie-breaker. And of course neither team was willing to go gently into the good night, so with both answering exactly the same answer, the substitute question of “What is my Birthday” decided the round. And the winner is: We Won’t Win … (because team Mad Dog called me old…jerks).
After team Mad Dog bought me a drink to apologize, on to Round 3, with presidents of the US, Tornado Alley, and those loveable Monkees! An early setback to The Gods of Wrong Answers with a flip-flopped answer on the 3rd and 4th presidents upset and disappointed many, but that didn’t stop them from drinking … a lot, as team Mad Dog pulled into a slight lead early in the round. However, after the Grab Bag we found ourselves with a 3 way tie, the best kind of tie. With a phenomenal knowledge of the length of the Mississippi, the winner of the final round is Mad Dog.

Star Wars Fact of the Day: If you listen closely during the Mos Eisley shoot-out (just before the Falcon takes off), there is a brief musical cue from 70s arcade phenomenon Pac-Man.

We had an amazing night at The Glenn in North Glenn this Tuesday. Venue favorites Team Mad Dog and The Gods of Wrong Answers battled it out the whole night. To start things off, Mad Dog took the slightest of victories in round 1 with only a single point lead. Let it be known that memorizing the 7 Dwarves has its benefits.
In round 2 despite an early 3 way tie including newcomers Team That’s What She Said, the Gods of Wrong Answers pulled into the lead with their phenomenal knowledge of terrible terrible processed cheeses, and then secured the win on the backs of a Kiwi and Kookaburra.
Round 3 started with a devastating setback to the God’s of Wrong Answers for not knowing the Falklands or the countries in Central America, (Yet they’re experts on Matt Groening cartoons from the early 80’s, go figure) and just couldn’t recover. Team Rendezvous, though trailing for the previous rounds made an amazing comeback, trailing on the heels of Mad Dog for the entire round, but just couldn’t quite catch, making the Corey Feldman loving Mad Dogs the 3rd and final round winners.

Star Wars Trivia of the Day: R2-D2 wind-up action figure made by Takara in Japan, was one of George Lucas’s favorite toys. Lucasfilm itself ordered thousands of them for company employees.

I have to apologize to my loyal fans out there for the MIA blogs. I have just been having so much fun with my nights at the Glenn that I hated to soil them with my lackluster prose. I don’t want any of you to think that I’ve forgotten any of you, so here goes with the fantabulous Tuesdays at the Glenn!
The teams have been varied and the competition stunning at the Glenn for the past few nights. Of course we have our oft winning and always available weekly teams The Gods of Wrong Answers and Team Mad Dog fighting it out for supremacy with The Gods of Wrong Answers taking most of the early rounds and Team Mad Dog displaying true grit and taking home the prize in round 3 (and the best of the prizes) just about every night, but what makes the night fun are not always the winners, but the people there to buy me alcohol and french fries. So, Team K10 and RayRay I hope you girls had a good time and thank you so much for the graphic images scrawled on your papers in place of actual answers, Team Tommy, you guys are great, get back and give the reigning champs a run for the crown again. The Legends, UMC, Fat Thumbs, Don’t Knows, Brown, and Blue you all were fun for the brief time you were there, and remember, it’s not always what you answer, but how you answer sometimes (see my remarks for K10 and RayRay). Team Trio and Solano you guys came in late, but I don’t count against tardiness, so I’ll be looking for you next week. And to everyone else, I hope you all have been having as much fun as I have and I’ll see you all this next Tuesday, beer in hand and teeny tiny amp in the corner!

Star Wars Fact of the Day: Contrary to popular belief, the shot that ends A New Hope is not an allusion to Triumph of the Will, but in fact a very clever spoof of an obscure early 60s episode of Sugarfoot.

An excellent game this week at the Glenn in Northglenn! We started the night off with a first round tie between the oft winning Gods of Wrong Answers and the relatively new Drive Thru Speakers. Drive Thru took it down with an awesome tie-breaking display. Round 2 and the tensions are high between these two titans of trivia and in a final question blitz, Gods of Wrong Answers took back the title! Not to be ignored the other teams, Mad Dog, The Dumbasses, Team Rehab, and The Nacy’s all made a grandiose push for the final round with team Mad Dog, a constant force at the Glenn, brought home the victory.

Star Wars Fact of the Day: Only George Lucas knew about the iconic line “Luke. I am your father!” During filming, the actors had a different script, and the line that was read was “Luke. You are your own father!” That really confused and outraged the actors and film crew, and Lucas had to concoct a lengthy lie about a time-travel based Return of the Jedi.

JR’s Mondays with Preacher May 15, 2008

After a one week hiatus to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, I’m back and I brought a little bit of trivia … I thought you might like it.
With 10 teams coming to the table Monday, JR’s was packed with lots of good friends and good fun. Round one started off with the constant team Sally’s Sluts taking it down with a nearly perfect first round score, though team Where’s The Flannel (WTF) and Team Clark came in close behind, and chased all of round 2 as well. Sally’s Sluts narrowly winning again by only a couple of points and all of the teams within a narrow margin. Naturally this only inspired the other teams, and team WTF tied Sally’s Sluts for the third round and with an amazingly close guess took the round title and second place in the game over all.

Star Wars Fact of the Day: Filming on The Empire Strikes Back had to halt for two weeks due to a wind-surfing competition in Australia that became an annual tradition of sorts for Lucas, and of which he refused to miss.

Tuesday was a night of hope, joy, and crushing defeat for some of the teams, but everyone’s always a winner when we’re drinking heavily and enjoying the dulcet tones of…well, me, over a marginal sound system. None of that concerned the teams at The Glenn on Tuesday however, the competition was vicious and trivia, trivial as always.
The round one victor and perennial champion was Gods of Wrong Answers with their unholy mix of ridiculous geography knowlege and children’s playtoys, they’re a tough team to beat. Their first round win was narrow, but they justified it with a sweeping round two, leaving the competition in the proverbial dust. But round three was not happy for these Mighty Caseys of Buzzwords. The Mad Dog’s struck back after a faltering God’s of and took the final round by a behemoth margin. Also playing their little hearts out were returning team The Nancy’s/Babaganushe and new comers team HatSkirt (I got to name them :))

A fantastic night at the Glenn in Northglenn this past Tuesday with old favorites and newcomers alike battling it out for the prize. Starting the night off with a vengeance, Team Gods of Wrong Answers and returning team Mad Dog went into a tie-breaker with Gods taking it down. But in round 2 team Mad Dog struck back and for the uncontested win and teams Broncos, Hooker Patrol, The Nancy, and Bag Ladies all trailing but closely behind. Round 3 Team Gods of Wrong Answers brought the prize back home narrowly defeating Mad Dogs for the 2 out of 3 title.

As always it was an exciting night at Jr’s on Monday. 10 Teams entered, but only 1 could be victorious. The night started off with a near perfect first round win by team Holy Family, a Jr’s favorite and returning round champion. A fast and furious round 2 saw a tie-breaker between Sally’s Sluts and Widow Thompson’s Tarts with Sally’s Sluts barely squeaking by for the win. Round 3 shenanigans had team Holy Family back in the lead and tied with the classic Sally’s Sluts for the game win. In an unfathomably accurate guess on the tie-breaker, team Holy Family takes it home, with Sally’s Sluts taking the silver and the previously unknown Cracker Monster coming in for 3rd.

Star Wars Fact of the Day: The Sith were originally called The Damned, but a British band with the same name debuted in February 1977, forcing Lucas to dub over the word with “Sith” in post-production. To this day, Lucas hates all punk rock.

Due to massive alien abduction, last weeks post for the world famous Glenn in Northglenn went missing, so consider this your double double animal style The Glenn post!
The day: April 16th
The place: The Glenn
The people: All Nuts!
To start things off reoccurring team The Gods of Wrong Answers actually showed up on time again, dashing the hopes of any team looking for a cake walk in the early rounds. Even worse, team Mad Dog, normally comprised of some of the most trivial minds in the Glenn history, was out with a terrible bout of loserness and down to only one player, hereforth known simply as The Dawg!

The God’s of Wrong Answers swept the competition in all three rounds, but winning bonus points for the prettiest team: The Hot Mammas. Best Name: Blumpkin. And of course teams 3 Sheets, Cat Box, and Syn Sisters get points for making an effort.

Fast forward 1 week. Again team God’s of Wrong Answers are on time, but ::cue the ominous music:: the main man G.O.D. himself is sick. Could this be the end of their run?
Round 1, the semi reunited Mad Dog takes it outright.
Round 2, God’s of Wrong Answers strike back with a fury.
Round 3, BAM! God’s of Wrong Answers seal their victory!

Brand new to the Glenn were teams Wallace and King Ding fresh from a softball game and competing at their table for a round from me. King Ding took round 1 at the table netting themselves 2 cool pitchers, with Wallace answering back in round 2, only to be out done in the 3rd by King Ding yet again.
Special mentions for team Mr. Big for lasting the whole game, and team Your Sister’s Prom Date for bailing out WAYYYYY too early.

Star Wars Fact of the Day: the original draft by George Lucas read: “A long, long time ago, in the not-too-distant future…” Luckily, someone pointed out to George that this made no sense.

Massive Manic Monday at JR’s April 24, 2008
Posted by buzzwordz in Buzzwordz Trivia, Colorado, Denver, JR’s, Preacher.add a comment
Hey there Sportsfans! Due to some technical problems last week’s JR’s blog didn’t post so this will be a massive double post - all the JR’s you can handle in half the page space! The competition at JR’s on the 15th was massive. After a previous loss by team Holy Family they gathered a crack team of Trivialists (sure it’s a word, why not) to try for the title against mainstays Sally’s Sluts and Widow Thompson’s Tarts.

The first round had a shocking conclusion with the conglomerated team SRBP squeaking by the competition to take it, but Holy Family’s persistence paid off with a second round tie-breaker win against Sally’s Sluts. Round three was again snatched away by team SRBP for the game win, sending Holy Family into 2nd place and Widow Thompson’s Tarts into 3rd. Though other teams Lucky Bastards, Wrong Number, Awesome?, Robot Vagina Revival, and RC Cola made valiant efforts, none of them had the stamina to go all the way. I hate it when that happens!

On to the next week, Sally’s Sluts came back with a vengeance after missing their place last time making round 1 their proverbial bitch and smacking the competition upside the head with a 2×4 and smashing even The Divine Miss M.

In round 2 Sally’s Sluts only strengthened their lead, edging out team Obamanation for the win and a strong start to round 3 with a strong finish and the game winning sweep. Second place was Obamanation and 3rd was the Bionic Beavers with an equally strong 3rd round showing.

Team Widow Thompson’s Tarts were late, and of course blamed me, but those tardipants made a good showing and promised not to make me wait next week. Team Chocolate also got in late in the game but still managed to get some good points in and smile pretty for the camera. The Chicken Tenders, Somebody Gay, and the classic team Blow all made good attempts too, but it’s hard to stand up to the wrath of a once scorned Sally’s Sluts.

Star Wars Fact of the Day: Return of the Jedi was originally titled Revenge of the Jedi - but later underwent a title change, due to the fact that, according to Lucas, A Jedi would never take revenge.

The Glenn in Northglenn offers the bar experience we all look for on a Tuesday night: good people, good drinks, and random pointless trivia for fabulous prizes. The night started off strong with a single point win by mainstays the Mad Dogs narrowly defeating team Border War.

But in round 2 Mad Dogfirmly established their dominance with a solid win. Teams Blood Bath and The Cunning Linguists just couldn’t catch up.

However, the night was far from over. Team G.O.D., the perennial late comers made it in for the round and joined team Webow making them a powerhouse of trivia knowledge.

Inspired by a snide remark about my beloved Simpsons, I, Preacher offered a round of drinks on me to the team that could name all the Southpark boys, first and last names, and Butters. Sadly, the top team only came up with 3 of the 5 names forcing me to question whether or not they all, may in fact, be soviet spies. But my conjectures aside, we finished the round with team Webow/G.O.D taking the lead, even with team Mad Dog’s extra credit points for answering questions I never asked. Thanks everyone that was there for the fun. I promise we’ll get those acoustic issues taken care of for next week, but remember all that it means is I will have that much more booming and powerful voice, and you will therefor be that much more in awe of my power!

Jr’s is a bar like no other, so it’s only natural that the patrons are some of my favorites. Mainstays Sally’s Sluts took the first round after a tie-breaker with The Other Boelyn Girls, then blasted the competition in the 2nd round taking it outright.

But the fates, they are fickle ones, and a tough 3rd round had The Other Boelyn Girls and Down with OPP in a face off for the round. Down with OPP took the round, but The Other Boelyn Girls with there ringer baker/computer geek took the title for the night. Sally’s Sluts took 2nd, and Down with OPP took 3rd. But wait, the night’s not over. More highlights included the all female team of the G-Spots spilling a beer and handing in sopping wet answers all night, late comers Team Clark’s insistence that “Kansas” was, in fact, the answer to EVERY question in the 3rd round, the Holy Family’s celebration of being the only team to answer the bonus question and win a round of Japanese Sex Shots (a team after my own heart), many, many futile though much appreciated bribes by numerous teams, team Robert/Wazoo’s valiant attempts to get their answers in on time despite a logistics problem with their runner and her endowments, and the C’mon’me’s, though silent through most of the game, convinced me to buy them around to get them started next week. Now that’s charisma.

Tuesday at the Glenn in Northglenn saw some familiar faces, some new additions, and a whole lot of technical difficulties, but was, as always, fun as only the Glenn can offer. The night started out strong with regulars the Mad Dogs going point for point with the Cheezers, a team with a peculiar feline fascination.
A tie breaker in the first round established the Mad Dogs as the victor, but none of the teams were daunted. Ferociously the other teams, including new comers the Nosotros, battled back in the second round.
Team It’s a Boy made huge gains this round, and on-again-off-again trivia teases Chris and Lori got in on the action full force, but ultimately, the Mad Dogs with their ungodly sports knowledge, took round 2 as well, much to the dismay of team Side of Babaganoosh.
But what’s this? Round 3 saw the appearance of the Mad Dog’s arch nemesis Gods of Wrong Answers to challenge the champions. In a mad dash for the finish with 5 teams all neck and neck, the Gods of Wrong Answers pulled ahead and won round 3 by a single point. Let it never be said that late comers can’t also be winners.
Congrats to all the teams and I can’t wait to see you all again next week where we will be presenting a brand new sound system to fully accommodate brand new host Preacher.

Jr’s With Brody & Brand New Host “Preacher” April 1, 2008

Jr’s was a blast as always this Monday. The Not So Pink Ladies took a commanding lead in the first round despite some very tough questions and their penchant for substituting unmentionable body parts and what I’m sure are “affectionate” terms for the hosts when they didn’t have an answer.
In the end (pardon the pun Jr patrons) Dirty Sanchez made a valiant attempt but the Sully Sluts took the last 2 rounds and the GAME WIN!
Highlights of the evening included discussions at length about Brody’s backside, Preacher fumbling with a lipstick drenched mic on his first night out, Possible Side Effects unofficial team captain’s beautiful smile, and Saturday Nigtmare’s constant pessimism upon bringing up their answers only to be outdone by their elation every time they got a smile and nod for the right answer by the hosts. We’re also giving out an honorary shout out to the Lawn Jockies who got 100% of the questions they answered correct, but since they only answered 1 question, were unable to place for the top prizes, however given the collection of empty glasses accumulated at their table, I don’t think it worried them too much.
