Odgen Street — We add real good March 18, 2008

Remember kids, it’s not who the host is, but how the game is played. Welcome the new Matt for me next week. I might make a guest appearance from time to time, but you’re all on your own now.
So, if these didn’t make you laugh, I don’t know what will: First off, as far as I can tell, the A-Team is and was never a Prime Time Soap. But, maybe the best answer ever… Which state capitals have 5 letters? So, you need to know two things: 1) the actually names of state capitals (good guess with Fargo, but Bismark is the capital of North Dakota), and 2) how to add to 5, meaning D-E-N-V-E-R, with, ummmm, 6 letters doesn’t fit! Lol!
14 teams and 55 players just make Odgen Street South the place to be every Sunday night! Playing but not finishing included the Canaries and the Jayhawks (2 teams who split as they were too big to be together), the Hawkeyes (representing Iowa and their public school education), Always on the Green (just biding their time till the course opens) and the Terminators (who did just that in round three). Also, team Frog didn’t start playing till the 3rd (even though they were there for much longer).
The middle grouping all put in stellar efforts, but just failed to crack the money spots: The Noreasters (love that they play each week, almost from my home), The Farting Nuns (which had a plural for a name, but only one on the team, kinda like Ben Folds Five with 3 band members), Banana Hamomock (almost made the money, but did give us the infamous Denver answer), and the Mindbenders (pan flute’s for everyone!).
That leaves us with 4 teams and only 3 gift certificates, hmmm? Well, we’re giving honorable mention to Buddhist Monk Riot who won shots for the 1st round, but no money. Third place went to our perennial Denver Danglers (money is money, right?), second went to Let It Snow (which we found out latter didn’t), and first, with a now trademarked name, was Spitzer Swallows (who also won shots for rounds 2 and 3, had a Sabres fan on the team getting super bonus points from the host, and one really cute chick (again with super bonus points)).
So, there you have it. Another night with all done by Cameron, Tianna, and Liesel on the floor, our writers on the wall, and the Blog Nazi in cyberspace. And as they say on the news… I am outta here! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Ogden Street: Where nobody watches Melrose Place… March 9, 2008
Posted by buzzwordz in Denver, Matthew Cohen, Ogden Street South.add a comment
Well, if you read the blog on a regular basis you know some posts are better than others. But, we’ve got a new Blog Nazi who will make us all fall in line, or “No Trivia For You!”. Seriously though, thanks for visiting. If you print this out and bring it to trivia next Sunday, your first round is on me!
Anyway, with 12 teams and almost 60 players, pretty much the whole bar was playing tonight. People visiting from Mississippi (too bad, she was really cute), locals, and transplants (including my boys and girls from back east), it made for a great night of trivia. We even proved at the end that, yes, the host can add!
The bad are always the best in my blog, and tonight we had some goodies: Jamie Lynn Spears was never in Star Trek, The highest award given to a civilian (after third grade gym class) is the Presidential Fitness Award, and Gary Cherone never sang for Ace of Base.
So, let’s start with who we’ll call tier three: Team Afrik came in late, but finally made the scorecard in round #2, Team Cobra Kai (straight outta the Karate Kid, had enough to keep me laughing, and it was with not at you!), I Drink Your Milkshake pretty much were drunk by round 3, Team God called in advance but still showed up late, and the Super Novas didn’t make the Blog-O-Shame but still made me laugh.
The middle of the pack producers (more than 20, less than 30) fell out the way we expected: The Northeasterners would have won if they were the only team in the bar (but another member from Buffalo gets bonus points for the UB alum), Team A and Team B (separate but equal) fought early over the most creative name of the night, The Mindbenders did that in the 3rd, but just missed on shots.
That only leaves us with three: The Blood Hounds didn’t win any rounds (meaning no shots) and thought they had more points than they did, but still got a bar tab for third place, The Denver Danglers came back to represent, winning the 2nd round and 2nd place for the night, but No Cunt and Tree For Old Men were the big winners for the night, with shots after round 1 and 3 along with 1st place for the night!
So that’s how it all went down. Thanks to Alex behind the bar, and Liesel and Michelle on the floor (with help from Dave). We’ll throw it down again at the best damn Sunday Trivia game in town next week!
BuzzBee at Blake, or how to lie with the best of them… March 8, 2008

Well, if there was a night where myself and my ever delightful host Jen had more fun than Thursday you’d be hard pressed to find it. Given the crowd and the night, it was almost the Jen and Matt morning show on KBee. Like two true comedic hosts working the crowd, we definitely had a great night.
Anyway, after Tobin’s friends (including the “funniest man in the world”) bailed because, as Jen said: “They had no balls”, we got the night started with our favorite 4th grade words of weeks past. Words like p-h-a-l-a-n-x and h-o-d-g-e-p-o-d-g-e got blown through in the first round. But, after round two were already down to our final three.
Pam, our contestant from Winchestertonsfieldville, IA, was the first finalist to bite the dust. However, the school nurse/Santa stamp collector really had a great time.
That left us with our final two (who pledged a grudge match rematch next week)
Finishing second was our friend Dick (who really lived up to his name). Dick claimed to only wear underwear when it’s a fine mesh, but we decided to prevent him from proving that to us.
Finishing first by correctly spelling f-l-i-p-p-a-n-t and c-l-a-n-d-e-s-t-i-n-e in order was Richard (our Doogie Howser look alike)
Thanks to everyone who had balls. We’ll see you each and every week at 7:30! Matt and Jen out.

Okay, so my inability to speak into a mic carried over from my last appearance at the Spelling Bee into tonight. It was matched only by the questions I attempted to ask which my players pointed out were not researched so well.
All those things aside, I can say with absolute certainty that: Easter Island is not owned by Canada, eh? George’s ATM password is not 8675309 (sing it out), and my favorite of the last few weeks: Captain Spock did not invent Vulcanized Rubber.
Anyway, we got some returning players to help their teams (who fared poorly last week), while some of our other teams seemed to simply throw the towel in. Props to Irish Mo Fo’s, who puller the greatest round over round increase in modern history (with a 20 time increase from round 1 to 3, with 20 points in round 3), Vick’s Dawgs tried with a 6 times increase round 1 to 2 (but faltered after that), team En Fuego bailed after the first round (not much of a defending champion after last week). The Winners came in for round 3 (and had a pretty decent round after coming off the slopes), Rock Your Face Off plugged along for the night (and did not, in fact, rock any face off), and the Noreasteners came kinda close (although meeting anyone who knows where Waverly is, is good for the night, and who doesn’t love chicks from the island?)
That brings us back to our top three: team We Need More Friends finished third (without winning a single round), team Don’t Call Me Hussein finished second (and won round #2) , Remember kids, if you can’t or don’t finish your shot, your intrepid host is always there for you. But the night belonged to a returning team who got kicked last week: the Denver Danglers won both the 1st and 3rd round to take the whole night.
Thanks to Cameron, Liesel and Michelle for keeping us fed and drinked (that’s right), we’ll see you all next week!
Buzz Bee: The battle of the office parties February 29, 2008
Posted by buzzwordz in Blake Street Tavern, Buzz Bee, Denver, Jen Hoppe, Matthew Cohen.add a comment
With Vince in one corner, Fred in the other, and Vanessa in the middle, the Buzz Bee battle went on (and on, and on) last night! We started a bit earlier in the evening (7:30) and despite most people just wanting to eat their dinner and be entertained, we found ten brave folks who took on the Spelling challenge.
Fred had the largest, and loudest cheering section for the first half of the evening, as his office party fully stopped their cell phone ’show and tell’ each time he was up to spell. With something like 20 guys, that can get loud! But then Vince made it to the finals and his office party stepped it up, literally from the opposite side of the room. Not to leave out Vanessa’s fans - they were very eager to help her out by asking for sentences and definitions even though she didn’t seem to need them.

Vanessa, Vince and Fred, in that order.
After two solid rounds of double-elimination torture, we got down to our final five players: Dan, Jordan, Vanessa, Fred and Vince.

Despite starting a bit late, and swearing the he would be the winner of the Bee that night, Jordan didn’t make it to the final three. Next time! Dan, the dodgeball fanatic, also didn’t quite make the cut, but I’m sure it was that he had a tough word.
Once we were down to three, my intrepid co-host Matt and I decided to go to the 4th grade words (the tough ones) and that made for quite a final round. After 30 words, we managed to get one of our crazy contestants to spell two of them correctly in a row. That lucky dog was Vince, the flamenco guitar player. He asked to take his picture with me, and I was in a good mood so I obliged.

So there you have it! Another successful night of the Buzz Bee at Blake Street Tavern. Thanks also to Rhonda, Doug, Adam, Matt and Travis for playing! Get out your dictionaries and study for the next one.
See you then!
Jen

Old people, new place, and our dominators in Mexico lead to shots and bar tabs into different hands tonight. Thanks as always going out to Cameron behind the bar, and Liesel and Angela for keeping the food and drinks flowing. I promise, this will be the last night with questions about Wesminster. And just so we’re all clear: Roger and Me was a Michael Moore movie, but Roger and Me 2, or Roger and me do Dallas are not. And, the 5th show in the Stargate series is not Stargate: Special Victims Unit.
But, on to the scores: great job to Catfish Larry (who got 1 point on the final question of round one to finish with… 1 point!!!), and the Good Tryers ( who got to drunk to finish mid way through round 2).
The Us Un’s showed up late and made a good showing (even with their mildly British selves), the Short Bus proved that you can outlive that nickname if you really try (unfortunately, they didn’t try to hard), Dog in a Bathtubdisappointed by not getting the dog question right, and the surprise of the night, perennial all-stars the Denver Danglers finished out of the shots and 1 point shy of third.
Anyway, some god scores posted by the semi-regular teams. Third went to the Gunkholes(who still finished shotless), second went to Oscar and the Grouches (who won round #2 with shots to prove it), and first went to For English Press 2 Now (while winning shots in the first and third rounds).
Another great night with over 30 players…. We’ll see you at 7:15is to start the week off right at Odgen Street.

The Buzz Bee was back with a vengeance last night at Blake Street Tavern! My irreplaceable co-host Matt and I were thrilled to have a great crowd come back after a week off and the V-day holiday. We had almost 20 brave (or possibly drunk) contestants. Despite the claims of not being able to spell or not knowing what a word meant, we confirmed that many Denverites really can spell. Seriously people, it’s ok to be smart. We’re not in high school anymore!
Many thanks to Jeff “crabass” Popiel and his lively group who all participated last night! They made the evening much more entertaining. See, we ask you to tell us something interesting about yourself that we can chat with you about when you get up to the mic, and Jeff offered up his love for the ballet, kegstands, and the tattoo of a crab on his ass. While tempting, I didn’t let him prove that was true.

As for the spelling, it took four rounds to get down to our final five…

and one more to get down to our final two, Josh and Juan.

It was a short final round, as Juan missed his first word and we went to Josh for two correct words in a row. He didn’t let us down and with vitreous and littoral he was once again crowned Buzz Bee Champion! Nicely done! (This will be Josh’s last appearance at the Bee, as he will likely scare away future spellers. Kidding, sort of.)
Leah and friends, we hope to see you guys again! Brodie and Jason - great to see you guys back! And thanks to everyone for giving it a shot (or two)! We will be back next week and every Thursday at Blake Street!! The more people who play, the better the prizes will be, so tell your friends. See you there!

Odgen Street South - Home of the dogs (and their masters)… February 18, 2008

That’s right, on the night we had questions regarding the Westminster Dog Show, we had greatness in our midst. Our own local Charlie’s dog took “Best in Class” last week!!! Way to go Chuck!
Almost 50 people formed alliances on 11 teams on my second night at the Street, and, as always, it came down to the last answer on the last question to determine our winner! Big props to Cameron behind the bar, and Alex, Tanna, and Liesel on the floor for keeping us all fed and liquored up.
So, first off the Blog-O-Shame will set the record straight: Jose Canseco (no matter how many of you wrote it) is not, and mostly likely won’t be, in the MLB Hall of Fame, Egon and Sargent Pepper both weren’t in Stripes (although Egon did make me laugh!), and the best of the worst: Sir Walter Scott is not know as “Sir Mix-a-lot”. Hehehe
I thought for sure last night was going to be a run-away game given the first round scores, but it actually turned into a tight contest, with 9 of 11 teams finishing within 5 points of first. That means the following two: Occam’s Razor and Little Oral Annie just get the honorable mention category.
The middle of the pack was filled with the likes of: ABFAB (and yes you were), I Drink Your Milkshake (and yes, like I said, you guys screwed the pooch on the last question to miss out on shots), Wings Fan (definitely the youngest participant of the night), Apple Bottoms(with some really wacked out big-ass art on your answers), Team Squid(another artistic team, though a little less provocative), and Team Awesome (who only lived up to your name at your table, although the girl giving the answers to me was really cute).
That leaves our round and nightly winners. Round #1 was a tie with 2 PERFECT ROUNDS between Denver Danglers and Apple Bottoms, but, not only was the round perfect, but the Danglers got the tie breaker EXACTLY! (Reach into that pocket for your $100 bill!). The Danglers also took round #2, and it seemed like the shots got to them in the end. They wound up tying for 2nd on the night with En Fuego (Charlie’s team), who took round #3. However, the night belonged to Dry Hump, who figured out the when the Bee is on the screen it’s time to get your answer in, and that they did to win the night by a single point!
So, if you think you’ve got skills to take all challengers, Odgen Street on Sunday is the place for sure. We start no earlier that 7:15 and no later than 7:30. Peace out cub scout!

Well, neither snow, nor dark, nor lack of a love life could stop your intrepid hosts Matt and Jen from hosting the BuzzBee tonight at Blake Street Tavern. And while the crowd was expectedly small, an epic battle ensued.
Thanks to all the bar staff who kept the $3.50 Old Scratch pints flowing. The game came down to a final four: Crystal (with her spelling son Christian in tow) was the first of our finalists knocked out. She earned a free drink for her efforts.
Finishing in third was Parker. Parker could spell pretty well but seems to have had difficulty in finding someone to cut his hair well. So, in absence of a proper stylist, he turned to the old stand-by: The Flowbee. That’s right, cuts your hair and sucks it right into the vacuum. Next time Parker, dial it up to a 3 or a 4 rather than your 50’s flat-top. Still, third place earned him a $5 bar tab.

The final two came down to a battle between the shortest tall man ever: Jared, and our resident walking pedestrian accident: Ben. We switched to the harder list and these two battled through 16 words! Jared prevailed in the end by correctly spelling pleonastic and parsimonious in order. Ben took home a $10 bar tab for his second place finish and Jared earned a $20 bar tab. Nice work gentlemen.

We’re expecting to be back next week, so bring all your friends down to Blake Street for the BuzzBee!

That’s right kids, there’s a new game in town and it’s already going to give everyone else a run for the money as “The Best Trivia Night In Town”. You all know the place, and you all know the game, now it’s the total package!
So, you know how I roll: I gotta make sure you all know that the Blog-O-Shame follows me around: Ronald McDonald and Richard Simmons are not married to super-models, Steven Covey didn’t write “Body for life”, and “The Big Tall White Dude on the Indiana Pacers” while technically correct wasn’t exactly what we were looking for.
Anyway, no fewer than 9 teams battled out for three bar tabs on the night, and while not all survived (and some limped along to the end) the trivia made sure only the strong survived. First off, thank to the following for giving it the “old college try”: Leather Boys, Family Camp, Bombsquad, Operation Ivy, and To Be Determined all failed to break 30 but we’ll give honorable mention to TBD as they came in late and Operation Ivy as they won the first round and shots.
The fear of the new and unknown was in team Chisquita, but they did better than average and are thinking about bringing their smart friends next week.
The night boiled down to the the following: Balls Deep All Stars finished third, Voodoo Dolls finished second (and won round 3 in a tie-breaker), but the night belonged to the Denver Danglerswho won round 2 in a tie-breaker and the night by a single point. Good job (even with all the bitching about coming in late).
Alright, so we give out shots, have $2 Coors and Coors Light, and pay a $50 bar tab to the winners. Check us out on Sunday night!
Can you spell Sesquipedalian? February 1, 2008
Posted by buzzwordz in Blake Street Tavern, Buzz Bee, Denver, Jen Hoppe, Matthew Cohen.add a comment
So, all week I was quizzing my co-workers on the correct spelling (and meaning) of Sesquipedalian:
| 1. | given to using long words |
| 2. | (of a word) containing many syllables. |
| 3. | a sesquipedalian word. |
I can’t say that I knew either until after our first BuzzBee, but it made me look that much more to week #2.
Anyway, after a nearly flawless performance by yours truly and my delightful and delectable co-host Jen, week two presented some unique challenges. After fighting with the sound for what seemed liked an eternity, we forged ahead with words like: Toady, Insidious and Revivalist in the first round, and words like: Auctorial, Laureate, and Isochronal.
17 players fought hard and dirty to the final three pictured below
Anyway, 3rd place went to Brody from Nebraska, 2nd to Ana from Littleton, and 1st place went to Kendra from Denver (a self proclaimed can’t speller).
Thanks to the Denver Arts Museum for being our lead sponsor and all the girls on staff at Blake Street. We’ll be back in two weeks (that’s right, it’s the anti-Valentines Day BuzzBee) right back at Blake Street.
Can you handle this!
Katzenjammer! People in Denver can spell REALLY WELL!! January 25, 2008

Seriously! We were down to the LAST WORD on our list trying to eliminate the super-smarties that came out for the first-ever Buzz Bee at Blake Street Tavern! I feel stupid for underestimating how great you guys would do. Lesson learned… harder words to come!
It all started out at 8pm with 25 players bravely being the guinea pigs for our first night. With the double-elimination process everyone had a second chance since there was an element of luck as to what word you got stuck with. Matt Cohen and I, your humble judge Jen, worked the Bee together and we had a blast!!

It took several rounds but we finally came down to our top five super-smarties: Allison, Shelley, David, Josh and Paul. Paul’s family was an entire group of spelling geniuses, but he couldn’t hang on when he was asked to spell sesquipedalian. (Yeah, that word is ridiculous!) Our final word of the night, to determine the winner was diphyodont and when Allison couldn’t quite get that one, we were left with Josh, genius supreme, as the winner of the first ever Buzz Bee. Way to go Josh! And a huge round of applause to our final five and the rest of the brave peeps who blew us away with their spelling abilities! Thanks so much for making it a killer night!!
Here’s Shelley, who can say all of the United States in alphabetical order in less than 28 (ish) seconds! She proved it tonight… (that was awesome!)

Our friend Paul…

David here was one of the bravest first two players!

And Allison, our second-place finisher. We’ll see her next week with more teachers to increase the competition!

Last, but not at all the least, our winner Josh!

We’ll be back next week, Bee starts at 8pm but show up earlier to register at Blake Street Tavern. Where else could you possibly want to BEE?
Kudos to Tobin for an excellent idea to get this going here in Denver. Looking forward to it becoming a huge success!! Also, to the Denver Art Museum and Tattered Cover who provided great prizes for the evening, it really completed a quality night. You guys rock!
See y’all next week!

Breck — And I am outta here… January 19, 2008

Well trivia fans, in case you haven’t heard the sad news, last week was our last week at the Breckenridge Brewery and BBQ Pit. As is the case in life, all good things must come to and end, and you all sure sent me out with a bang. 10 teams showed up to see me off (and piss off Sara) 1 last time. Thanks everyone, it was a lot of fun, you were definitely the location I liked being at most. Like I said, we’re working on getting a Wednesday night for me, to replace Breck and as soon as I find out details I’ll fill you all in.
So, it’s with tears in my eyes that I write my last blog for Breck. Three teams didn’t make it to the end but thanks to J&J, Team Not Here That Long (aptly named) and BCI who actually won the second round before getting run out.
The first round was super close with no one getting less than 5, and only 1 team getting 8. The second round seemed to kick everyone’s ass with the high being only 11 (out of a possible 17). And we actually got to use the tie-breaker in round three. So, one last mention for the following in the order of game finish:
Paris Blues: A returning team with a familiar spot toward the bottom.
Dikfors: You guys really usually represent, but half your team was missing.
Team Brinton: You were like the other half of Dikfors, but a bit smarter.
Team Bosco: See what happens when you double your team size, next time bring the grand-kids.
Pursuit Team: About an average showing, and average level of pissed off bartender.
3 Balls: Too bad you just started coming, you coulda been a contenda.
And that means our winners (with 10 players as we said screw the rules on the last night), was our perennial powerhouse, small “D” dynasty, new name each week winning team: Royale With Cheese, who with a round 1 and three triumph also captured the night and official title of Breck World Trivia Champions.
I had fun guys, and just because we’re not doing trivia doesn’t mean that you can still have a $2 pint or $6 pitcher on Wednesdays… Come see me on Sunday’s at Brix in Cherry Creek of Thursday’s at the BuzzBee!
Brix — We’re all still here January 13, 2008

So, if you were out last week you might have thought we were all going to Vegas, but we’re still here! You missed a really fun night, where the staff won free beer, the psychologist and the massage therapist (not even a joke) took some much needed pity money, and those who tried to leave before the game even started actually won the night.
First off, let’s get out bad answers out of the way: Globo-Thermocom didn’t invent the microchip, Benjamin Moore (and all his fabulous colors) didn’t sign the Declaration of Independence, and Foreigner doesn’t actually have a “four” in their name (and I’m not too sure they’re in the Hall of Fame).
So my boy Tom on team Below Me scored 4 points over 3 rounds (that might be the lowest score for playing the whole game I’ve ever seen) but he still got some free beer out of me. Team Wasted Talent showed up for the third round and might have been a force to reckon with if they had gotten there earlier. The Two Chicks Behind Me (see above reference) picked up the 2nd place cert. How good s it to be on staff? The bar team of Two Girls, 1 Cup (or Team Suck It, or Buckle Shufflers) won the first round, and lost the third in a tie breaker. That means the Packers (of all kinds that I promised Katie I wouldn’t mention here) won the 2nd round, 3rd in the tie breaker and the night.
The PBR’s almost fall from the sky at Brix (and we’ve even got Key Lime vodka if you dare). Next week kids!

Wel, after what can only be described as a new years hangover, we got back to it tonight (that’s right, I’m writing on the same day as trivia!) For a while it was next to impossible to find a seat in the bar. Big thanks to the cook Nolan for proving that in fact my writers were wrong regarding Raising Arizona (no love was lost since no one got it right).
Anyway, we’ve got some good choices for the Blog-o-shame tonight, but just to be sure: Milli-Vanilli is NOT being inducted into the Rock an Roll Hall Of Fame, and instead of Columbus Day, they’re not celebration “White Man Coming, OH SHIT! Day”. Now that we’ve got those cleared up, it’s on to the scores.
So the Dikfors showed up in time to play round three, and while not winning anything the four dudes got the length of Little Miss Sunshine dead on at 103 minutes! (You know how I know you’re gay?) P&B only played the first round and scored the same amount of points as MK who only played for one question!
So, of the finishing groups, Pursuit Team was unable to defend last weeks hard won title (snicker). The Hop Devils figured out about 3/4s of the way through the night that they needed more people on their team. A big thanks to Bitches 5 and Dead Weighter for your first time in the bar. You all were a lot of fun, you’re first round next week is on me!
So, go back through all my blogs and while the name may change the team remains: Check out the big brain on Bradswept all three rounds (and obviously the night, as it’s mathematically impossible not to win the night if you win all three rounds). AND, a bit of history was made at Breck with our first Perfect Round! Way to go guys, we’ll see you next week!

If that’s not cryptic I don’t know what is, but we said goodbye to Eric as he left for Vegas on Sunday night and with Dr. Richard Kimbal in attendance the night was only bound to be crazy. No fewer than 9 teams battled for evening supremacy, PBR’s, and cold hard bar tabs, in what turned out to be a pretty lively game.
So, no one knew anything about the Cubs, and really, who cares (no offense to our writers!) In one of the best twists of the night, Erics team: Ramrod was bettered in the first round by Anabell and Taylor (the two girls whose combined age couldn’t have been more than 17).
Team US sputtered to a halt after their almost too surprising tie-breaker answer for Venice, and team Megan never really got off the ground.
That leaves us with 5 other teams fighting for beer, that’s right beer! Props to Hoof Hearted for the best team of the night (always enjoy that name being shouted over the mic). I thought Team Cesspoolwas going to pull out the third round, but a major team brain fart left them just a point out of the suds.
The fugitive old man at the bar, team Jool Z by Dick missed the money by a point, but won the third all to his own. Team Festivus took second (without any round wins). But, the night belonged to our resident staff team of Metro Cool Waves with 2 round wins and the nightly.
The bar is packed, the food is hot, the PBR flows freely (almost). Print it up and your first one is one me kids. You can’t kick off your week any better than this.

So, if you might have had a bit too much to drink over New Years Eve, or New Years Day, or the day after New Years then it showed at Breck on Wednesday. I can’t say i don’t feel your pain, but the only way I know to get rid of a hangover is to drink $2 beers!!! It was so slow that the cook almost won the night! That’s cool, we’re all getting ready for next week.
Not even any answers were funny enough to make it on the “Blog-o-shame”, so we’ll just make this whole post the blog-o-shame with the following teams getting honorable mention: Bar Flys, Eastern Division, Team Tapped none of which even made it to the end.
So the night boiled down to The Cook and the Chick and Pursuit Team. However, Pursuit Teamwasn’t distracted by having to do silly things like work and took all three rounds. Good job kids!
So, next week we’re gonna buy a lot of free beer and really get 2008 started like it should be. Peace out!

Now, don’t confuse my header with me thinking I’m the next big thing in trivia. It’s not that at all. the truth of the matter is that we had an ACTUAL Jeopardy contestant playing trivia with us tonight! That right folks, the kid with the buzz cut and the beard will have his episode air sometime in March of 2008. And while he couldn’t tell us much about the show he did tell us he didn’t win. One week it’s Jeopardy, the next it’s Buzzwordz (we’re not worthy!)
Well, before we get to the beer winners, let’s take a moment to salute those teams who put points on the board (just not enough to do anything more than amuse themselves): Team Bosco, The Natives, and Pursuit Team all didn’t break the bank but fun was had as always. A real surprise thrown down by the Assasinators(for real, you knew the Roseta Stone?!?) Santa’s Elves bailed during round three, but had the best worst answer of the night: President Lincoln was not shot watching a production of Grease!
So, we didn’t find out about the trivia master until the second round, but should have know after his team Of Nazareth missed only 1 point in round 1 (and winning beer in the process). They tied with Let’s put the X back into Christmas for the round 2 win, and after 2 tie-breaker questions that both teams got right on, we decided to give both beer! (Hooray beer!) After the scores for round #2 were totaled I thought we were on our way to a record score but the brakes were put on in round #3. Let’s put the X won round #3 by a point, but our resident minor celebrity’s team Of Nazareth took the night!
A great way to finish up 2007 at Breck. Good year, good teams, good beer. We’re taking next week off and pick it up again on January 2nd, 2008!!! Stay safe and cab it!

Week #2 and EVERYONE in the bar, including the substitute bartender Willy played along. I guess you’ve just got to be prepared for what we’re handing down. And a shameless plug for my boys: Got Junk?
Anyway, The bar started out a bit rowdy with the players wanting to get going even before there was anyone in the house. Relax guys, we’ll get your ass kicked in the scores soon enough. So, after getting introduced to Steven Segal and Vinny Bagadoughnuts, we were off…
Kickin ass and takin’ names in the first round was Khaki and Creamy. The second round belonged to Stuckler and Buck Chuckles(or Chronic and Bluntman [or Chronic and Chronic]), but only in a tie breaker with team Kill.
Thanks to team Nigae~ for showing us the casual racist in all of us. Team Junk put up a fight but proved that age doesn’t necessarily bring wisdom. Team A & M (new boyfriend and girlfriend who broke up that night) showed that the recent college grads don’t know much more.
Anyway, with a tie to end round #3 and the game; Khaki and Creamypulled both out with a beatdown on team Kill and Stuckler and Buck Chuckles.
PBR’s all night long, how can you end a weekend any better? Check us out for the next two weeks as our newest host Josh slides in to take my place while I’m on vacation…

So, I think we maxed out the bar and while I am late posting, it’s not all for naught. Check this out, print my blog and bring it in this week and I’ll add one point to your score in any round of your choice! (That’s right kids, it could mean the difference between free beer or not).
A spirited game between no less than 9 teams! Guess you’re gonna have to start showing up early to get a seat. And while the capitol of Djibouti is indeed Djibouti I wasn’t satisfied enough with the answers to make the blog this week. That being the case, on to the scores!!!
Team Tapped was just that with a quick exit in round two, to be followed by Team Kant (which, despite only having a 1 x 3 sheet of paper, was able to fit an entire textbook answer for “it raises the melting point”). And The Natives played just long enough to get the Colorado questions wrong.
However! There were so many people we had to keep a sharp eye on the 6 person max limit and even wound up breaking up one team into two (see if you can guess who was who…)
In order of finish on the night:
Semi-Regular
Pursuit Team (even though they said they weren’t going to play)
Team Bosco (Just didn’t watch enough Headbangers Ball)
Bigger Dikfors (Winner of round #3)
The Dikfors (Winner of round #1 in a tie breaker)
And the winner of the night (and round #2): Why Can’t We Sell Any Of These Fuckin’ Bibles?
Make sure you bring the brains cause we already got the beer!
