Was it the end of an era or merely a bump in the road? That’s the question that’ll be answered next week when the previously undefeated Bort’s Bombers tries to reclaim their title. So far Bort’s Bombers has dominated every week at the Gorilla but this week The Flaming Rash squeaked ahead by one point. The Unicorns were far far behind the two top competitors, but way ahead of Team Terry, The Cougars, The Catfish and Kirsul. The latter teams just couldn’t compete. The first two rounds ended in ties between Bort’s and The Flaming Rash with the 1st round going to The Flaming Rash and the 2nd round going to Bort’s. Third round was the deciderer where The Flaming Rash nailed the Bond question and won the round and the game by that one single point.

Well what can I say, things are starting to pick up at the Gorilla Room and the regular players are establishing a pecking order. Bort’s showed up again this week and showed everyone who’s boss. They’ve won every week now. But it was close, Team 21 started tailing them in the second round, which they won, and it was almost an upset. Team 21 was named after one of there members who decided to come to trivia for his 21st birthday. Of course a 21st birthday is symbolic only since we were all drinking at 16, or in some cases 7. In the end Team 21 lost the game by a mere two points. Other teams worthy of note were In With The Bartender and South Side Moms with Showed Up Late showing up late but giving it their best anyway. See you all next week.

It was my first night as host and things went pretty smoothly, although we needed some more people. The Gorilla Room has a later crowd so next week we’re going to try a later start, we’re shooting for around 8:30pm. Hopefully we can get a few more teams to add some intensity to the game. But anyway, back to last night. Despite the best effort of Team Scott Baio, creating a tie in the first round, Bort’s Bombers took a steady lead in the second round that only increased in the third. Scampers and Toast rounded out the rest of the field and took third and fourth places, respectively.

We’re on the right track here. Let’s see what next week has to offer with a later start time.

Stellar night as usual at the ‘Shoe. We had a field of ten teams to start off the night and the competition was fierce and featured many tie breakers. Mess Hall finally got their day in the sun. After taking third place so many times they finally won the game, swapping places with the ever dominating Swashbuckling Sisters who took third. In the middle was Ramrod. Ramrod didn’t win any rounds but managed to stay consistently good. Cop a Feel kept forgetting to put their team name down but they’re still ok in my book.

As for the nonesense surrounding the final question? Here are my thoughts. The question was what’s on AOL Travel’s list, not what’s on my list. This is trivia, while guessing can be effective, you’re supposed to KNOW the answer. If you don’t know and have to guess then don’t bitch to me about something I have no control over, I cannot change facts. If you have a problem with the places AOL Travel put on their list of most dangerous tourist destinations perhaps you should e-mail their customer service. As little as they will care I can promise it’s still more than I do. This brings me to another topic: Rules. We all know the three written rules:

1. Maximum team size of six people.

2. Don’t shout out the answers.

3. No cheating.

Then of course I like to add super secret rule #4: Pick a team name, stick to it and always write it down. Well now I have a new rule to add. #5: Don’t bitch to me because I don’t care. While the five bucks you spend may entitle you to subject everyone to your bullshit at Taco Bell or Starbucks, I will not appease you. I simply don’t have to. Yelling at me like I’m your waitress at Applebee’s, in order to impress your fratboy friends, will not get you anything except laughed at.

On a more serious note, trivia will be on a one week hiatus for Xmas. But the ‘Shoe is still open. If you’re Jewish, or just need a drink after dealing your family all day, stop on in.

Ok, it’s never good to update a blog for a weekly event a week late but that’s what I’m doing. First off, lets say I was totally planning on updating this on Wednesday evening of last week, which would totally have been acceptable. That was before I popped a tire on a pothole, one that wasn’t in stock anywhere in the state, and also flooded my condo while cleaning my aquarium. All of this only a few hours before flying to Connecticut to visit my girlfriend’s family.

We just got back yesterday morning after the most horrible flight ever. It was one of those flights where the cabin of the plane was at least 564 degrees Fahrenheit. You have to understand, I don’t travel well. I’m not scared of flying but I really hate airports. You’ve got to love traveling when the fascists have elevated the Color Coded Fear Level just in time for the holidays. I kept telling the security people it didn’t feel “orange” but they insisted it was, right before “puffing” me with unknown gases. Traveling these days is just damn Orwellian.

But anyway, onto last week’s trivia. It was a good night. I’d say about average for the ‘Shoe, rocking about 6-7 teams. The Swashbuckling Sisters won back their title by a landslide.

Well I almost did this blog on time. And I certainly did it almost within 48 hours. Which is awesome. Next week I’ll try to do it even faster. It’s like a game. You know what else is a game? Trivia. Which is what happened at the ‘Shoe on Tuesday evening. This was a week of change for Trivi-ites at  the Horseshoe. Why? Well it was because it’s the first time in about four weeks that The Swashbuckling Sisters didn’t shame everyone. In fact they didn’t even place. Some things didn’t change. I enforced rules like an overzealous hall monitor, insulted Islam, and when challenged on questions I was unmoved by any arguments presented. In other words, I was pleasant as always.  More stuff that was the same is Mess Hall took third place, getting beaten 31 to 27 by The Space Cowboys. Eclipsing both of them, however, were The Old Stylers who won the game with 37 points.

What’ll happen next week? Will The Swashbuckling Sisters reclaim The Bucket of Brilliance? Will Mess Hall get third place? Will The Old Stylers prove it wasn’t a fluke? Will I insult various cities and religions (I know the answer to this one: YES)? Find out next Tuesday at the Horseshoe.

What’s this? I’m actually posting the blog? That’s right, after a series of broken promises (which much to the dismay of my girlfriend, friends and family will probably continue) I am finally doing a blog. I’m going to start doing it every week in a timely manor too… I promise.

Anyway, this one team, The Swashbuckling Sisters, keeps coming back and winning each week. Tuesday night was no exception and they won by a huge margin. I like them because they don’t seem to hate me that much. Although I don’t think anyone in the bar ever gets my hilarious jokes or is amused by tales of my misadventures. Nevertheless, I am still pretty awesome.

Another guy I want to mention is Steve. He introduced himself to me on my second night and has been there every night since with a different crew of teammates. Last night him and his Mess Hall took glorious third place and walked away with a pair of much coveted PBR socks and other PBR items.

Middle but not least on Tuesday was a team whose name I can’t remember. I get about four hours of sleep per night, this has been going on for a year now and consequently I am always angry, argumentative, apathetic, and aggravated, not to mention unpleasant, unshowered, unshaven, unbuttoned, unglued and undone (I think I know what it feels like to be Britney Spears, minus the cesarean scar). Plus also forgetful. But still enjoy alliteration, which I think was an answer to a trivia question on Tuesday. Anyway, many apologies for forgetting you guys. My score sheet is usually my guide to the blog but I forgot where I put it. I know it’s no excuse but hopefully writing a whole paragraph about you guys makes up for it. If I find the answer sheet I’ll try and retroactively mention you in a future blog.

Next week’s blog will be better. I promise?

EDIT: Well I found my score sheet and the 2nd Place team was The Fugi Brothers. Rather than be sly about it and edit the blog to make it appear as though I have my shit together I think I’ll leave my memory lapse up there for all to see. Congrats to the Fugi Brothers for taking second place.

It was a pretty slow night for Buffalo Wild Wings nine teams shrunk to six by the end of the game, everyone must have been resting up for Labor Day Weekend.  But we weren’t going to let that stop us from having a good time. The first round went to NCM who cleared their next two closest competitors, DOT and Tincan by two points. The second round went a little different when Munch My Body got twelve points besting NCM, SP’s and DOT, all with eleven apiece. In the final round NCM barely beat DOT by one point with SP’s trailing. In the end NCM won with 35 points to DOT’s 32 and SP’s came in third. See y’all on Wednesday.

We had a whopping one team. Kudos to them for sticking around for all three rounds and enthusiastically answering questions. This week we’re going to try something a little different. BINGO was his name-o. That’s right, we’re going to play some bingo.

Alright, last night was another great night for trivia. We started off with quite the crowd, 13 teams expanding to 16 by the second round. This is the place to be if you want to prove your knowledge against tough competition. In the first round Team Farts A Lot beat The Longhorns and Times Two by a point a piece. Unfortunately for our smelly round one winners, USA-A-OK beat them by one point and Inner Circle by two. It was ok though because Farts A Lot came back in the third round and beat USA by one point and Husker by two. In the end the game went to Farts A Lot with USA and Husker coming in 3rd and 2nd respectively. Alright guys, you know where to be next week.

Well, things went better this week. I didn’t spend the entire time thinking about drinking a bucket of Clorox or other ways to kill myself because some people actually played. The first round started off with a field off with a field of five teams. Buck beat Kiss My Ass and Purple Monkey each by one point in the first round. Second round went to Kiss My Ass who dominated the competition. The third round went to Purple Monkey who also won the game by one point aga

We finally had a shakeup this week with some different results than the past six or so weeks. Last weeks champs, who had a several week long reign of terror were MIA. The good news is that Captain Voodoo (the team formerly known as Captain Obvious) is back as champs. The first round went to single player Dot who stole the first round beating the next closest competitor by two points. It’d be her only victory of the evening. Second round went to Team Extreme beating Daphne’s Dirty Uncle by one point and Captian Voodoo by two. Third round was a tough race, Captain Voodoo barely beat Top Team by one point and Team Extreme by two. For the game Captain Voodoo and Team Extreme ended up in a tie with Top Team only two behind them. Victory went to Captain Voodoo and second and third place went to Extreme and Top Team. Welcome back Captain.

It was the night before my birthday and all through the house… trivia was happening. Bunds Pharmaceuticals, let me tell you about them. I believe this was their 5th win in a row (under various clever names). I think that qualifies them to write Almanacs or edit Wikipedia or something. Anyway. Congrats to them. It wasn’t their game the entire time though. In a three way tie for round one with Team Dot and Captain Obvious DBA Pocket of Voodoo, the Bunds missed the mark by 19 years. Pocket of Voodoo missed the mark by four years but were edged out by Team Dot who was only two years off. I want to remind everyone that Team Dot was just one lady.

Second round went to Bunds, who was clearly superior, beating Pockets by a significant five points. This saved their asses in the third round where Pockets pwn3d all and came within one point of a game tie with Bunds. In the end it went to Bunds, then Pockets of Voodoo and in third place, Team Dot. Team Extreme and The SP’s showed up again this week Extreme missed a tie for third by only one point.

Next week I’ll be 27, plus also have only that many brain cells left after the bender I have planned for this weekend.

J&K Connection vs. The Home Team, battle royal. Bang, first round went to J&K Connection as they snuffed out the competition with 33.3% more points than The Home Team (3 to 2). The Home Team turned the tables in the second round winning 8 to 5 against their worthy advisary. The Home Team continued their reign of terror in round three and won 16 to 14. In the end The Home Team won 26 to 22 against J&K Connection. Who knows what will happen next week.

The Cordial Lounge is  just inside of Lakewood on Colfax and has great food and $1.75 High Life bottles, what more can you ask for?

This event is keeping a steady momentum. Last night we had four teams battling it out. Team Gusto was able to defeat Team Dum & Dummer, Buck’s Bastards and Jim in the first round. The drinks they won must have been strong because in the second round Dum & Dummer climbed to the top spot, they kept their momentum too because they ended up taking the third round as well. In the end it was Dum & Dummer, Gusto, Bastards and Jim.

Hopefully next week we can kick it up a notch and start off August at the CL on a high note.

Sorry for the late posting on this one, guys, I lost my score sheet which is like my guide for the recap. My dog ate it, I’ve been following him around for five days. As luck would have it, my efforts were fruitful at about 6am this morning so here we go…

Another busy one at the BWW. I Can’t Believe Harry Potter Died stole the show and upset many children in the process. I wish I could say it was even close but no team could rival I Can’t Believe Harry Potter Died who won every round and the game. Team Ribs and Team Extreme came in second and third and the rest of the pack was close behind them. The SP’s, a team of very young men gave it the old college (high school?) try and took 4th place. Old friends Captain Obvious came in 5th.

This is a rapidly growing event, we more than doubled last weeks turnout. Numerically it was not a high number but from a business standpoint it can’t be ignored. Hopefully the trend will continue. The first round ended in a three way tie between Team Dum & Dummer, The Snickers and RJ. RJ ended up taking the tie-breaker to win and was rewarded with Tequila. In the second round the Big Booty Hoes came on strong and easily beat their next closest competitor by three points. In the third round Big Booty Hoes continued their reign and blew away the competition. In the end it was Big Booty Hoes, Snickers and Dum & Dummer.

Another happening night at Buffalo Wild Wings. The game maintained a 10-11 team field throughout the night. Lucky Kentucky- a one man show- took the first round, barely edging out Vick’s Mutts and DJH. In the second round DJH slipped and Vick’s Mutts won the round with Lucky Kentucky and Top Team right behind. Top Team did poorly in the first round but gained momentum in the second and kept it. In the third round Vick’s Mutts avoided a four way tie with Captain Obvious, Lucky Kentucky and Top Team by one single point. Final results were Vick’s Mutts, Lucky Kentucky and Top Team.

In other news, the BWW crowd is now fully aware of how I feel about people clapping when one of the staff drops something.  Don’t be that guy!

Our first night at the CL was limited but fun. I will say this, it was my first time as an M.C. where every single customer participated. I can only hope for that kind of ratio next week, albeit with more people. The questions proved to be challenging for our first night. The Too Stupids wound up in a tie with Team One in round one but ended up getting the tie breaker, Team Two was only one point behind. The Too Stupids slowed down in round two and never really recovered, Team One took the round. The third round was one for the history books as Team Two rallied from behind and overtook their two competitors for a third round and game win. Team One came in second and the Too Stupids came in third (aka LAST).
