A Purple Hooter Shooter Does Not Contain Gin July 3, 2008
Posted by buzzwordz in Marci Myers, Ogden Street South.1 comment so far
What a night of arguing about the questions! As you can probably see from the title, there were questions about what’s really in a Purple Hooter Shooter. One of the arguments was that it comes in a big glass, well really, that’s not a shooter, so you’re thinking of something different. The majority of websites I looked on all said the ingredients were; vodka, lime juice, and raspberry liquer or Chambord (one point for the bartending staff!). But way to decide we should just do shots to try it out!!
Another dispute was about the Oliver! question regarding the Academy Awards. A team disputed that Beauty and the Beast was also rated G and a musical, which is correct. The part about their arguement that was wrong was that Beauty and the Beast was nominated, but actually didn’t win the award for Best Picture.
Someone that wasn’t even playing trivia argued about the question regarding Shakespearean plays. He said that King John was not written by Shakespear. “The Troublesome Reign of King John” was an Elizabethan play that gave Shakespear inspiration to write “The Life and Death of King John.” So while he didn’t write the original, William Shakespear did write a play about King John.
The one that everybody argued about and they were actually correct on was about Tom Cruise. It’s correct, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were first in a movie, The Days of Thunder, in 1990.
Ok, on to the good stuff… At the beginning of the night, we had just one team. Now really, I just can’t have that. Last week, The Short Bus, was hoping they could win by default, being the only team playing. While I like you guys and all, that would just be really damned boring. So I wandered out to the patio, which was about to close, and recruited some people. Surprisingly, I got three other teams to join. While we had teams sitting closer tonight, they could see me better, they were between speakers and couldn’t hear me as well. I think we’re going to have to pick the lesser of two evils on this one guys.
This was week nine. We have one more regular week before the showdown! The winning team this week was some new girls, well one had played one time last year. So really, yeah, they’re new. Cooters won with a two point lead against the rest. Like a lot of the chicks who come in and play, I was guessing they wouldn’t stay the whole game, but they did! I guess they really wanted to get their eyebrows waxed!
The Short Bus came in with 18 points. I’m sorry guys, I would have let you win if I could. But really, I was tired and would have been totally bored and sleepy if it were just you and I playing. I had an absolute great time getting to know you guys though. But really, did we have to do so many shots?! On the D.L., I was late for work this morning, as I was sleeping off those drinks!
How cute that they dedicated their team, Brown Dog Co, to their dog. Actually, I’m not sure if that’s what it means or not. It was totally awesome that you guys came in from the deck and joined us. And even better, that you guys stayed the whole game and played. In all of the arguing, I’m sorry that I totally forgot to get your picture. Please come back next week so we can take a snapshot!
The Barney Killers ended a day of golfing by drinkin’ it up at Ogden Street South. They also were all about the Purple Hooter Shooters and even purchased a round of them. Please come back again guys, I know you had a great time and want to do this again!!
Well guys, I had a totally fun night- much less lame than last week. Once again, next week will be our last regular week, then we have the showdown. Here’s the rundown: If your team has ever won a game, you are invited to the tournament, and have an opportunity to win $700. The tournament will 7/16/08- same time- same place.
If you want to look at the scores, I’ll post them on my blog on myspace. www.myspace.com/MarciBuzzwordz you need to be my friend in order to look at it though.
See you guys next week!!

The Jets Are Un Touchable… but for how long? July 2, 2008

What a crazy night! I can tell the weather is getting hot, because it’s sure getting cranked up at Charlie’s! With lots of drink specials, everyone was required to have a beer to play (ok, not really, but everyone still did- who can pass up 50 cent beers???). It could be because it’s almost the holiday weekend- but everybody was cutting loose tonight! There were also some regulars missing, what the heck?!
Ever since I took the reins, the same team has won every game. But the other teams sure have been putting up a fight. We used all three tie breakers this week, which is pretty unusual. I also had men who prefer men hitting on straight women, which is also pretty unusual. Oh what a night!!
The returning winner and also this weeks winner was The JETS. They won two rounds, thus two pitchers, but at least they shared a sip :) Last week I had reported that one of the member might not return. But to the disappointment of every Charlie’s, the team had two regular members tonight. With a much awaited hair cut and a burned shirt, they still took the other teams by storm!
The winner of the tie breaker for second place was Alleycat. Most of the regulars for this team were out of town, they must have decided to start vacation early- but I didn’t approve that!
The third place winners had some new members tonight. I recruited some of them from a dinner party I was at, and they joined Power Princesses. This team was a forced to be reckoned with, but just couldn’t hack it in the tie breaker. There were more members from the team, but due to employment and education reasons, they didn’t want to be included in the picture (eventhough we discussed just putting a black bar across their eyes, they didn’t go for it).
Sluts2 (that’s Sluts Squared) came in fourth place. They were pretty good contenders until they drank too much in round three and just couldn’t keep up. They did promise to come back next week though.
Hot Stuff really only made it two rounds, then was “preoccupied” the final round.
We also had Team Giggy and Blue Eyes which only played round one then dropped off the face of the earth. If you guys play longer next time, you have more odds at winning!
Other crazy and random pictures:
Michigan vs. Ohio - hometown rivals!
boy vs. girl’s boob
Free shots for everyone= love
As Al says, “thanks for the party!”
See you guys next week!

TNON winners, Mugabe Flower Power, also take top prize June 30, 2008
Posted by buzzwordz in Jen Hoppe, Old Chicago - Wheat Ridge, Wheat Ridge.add a comment
You’d think they dominated from start to finish winning every round and every prize, but actually, they did it the hard way. Mugabe Flower Power started off very well winning the TNON and enjoying free beer from the get-go, but they had competition from Your Mama, Crippled Ugly and Stupid, and the Butterheads before they were able to win the overall prize by just one point!

Mugabe Flower Power
(Quick reminder for any newbies: TNON = Team Name of the Night & the easiest way to get some free beer.)
Your Mama, not to be confused with Your Mom, took charge in the first round and won it easily. The Your Mom team started a bit late in the first round but it was never really clear what was up with the Mom copycat theme thing. Anyway, after the domination in the first round, Mugabe Flower Power came back and took round two easily setting up a showdown in the third round like always!

Your Mama
At the end of it all, Mugabe Flower Power pulled out the win by one point with the surprise team, the Butterheads tied with Your Mama for second. After the tiebreaker, no Mom or Mama won a top prize. Maybe next week!

The Butterheads
With all that going on, I didn’t forget that the Cripped, Ugly and Stupid team actually won the third round and enjoyed some beer and a slightly longer stay than they expected. Good reason to stay, IMHO.
Crippled, Ugly and Stupid
We had a full house as usual and thanks for coming back after the rather sweat-filled previous week! Here are the rest of y’all:

Tricky Trio

No Ideas

Team X

Flying Spaghetti Monster

fupa

Three Bitches
and last, but not at all least…

That’s all folks! See you Wednesday at 8pm at Old Chicago in Wheat Ridge!

Then on to round # 2 which proved to be an even closer round between two team, Teams Jerk Store and team Z dadadadadadad team jerk store winning by a hair. Great jobs to all the teams see ya next week. PEACE OUT.

Hey everyone thanks for making this week so great we ended up having 10 teams play and some new ones coming out to put pressure on the staple NE2! The Iowa Boys took the first round and ended up winning the game in a tiebreaker! The Lusk Tribe returned with heat coming in third place and getting a gift certificate. The Watermelon Kings were back as well as the Dinos, Us Two and Mike and Lorrie!
This was our most competitive game ever although we did have some complaints of the questions being a little hard so we’ll try and fix that! They also gave away 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes this week so keep coming and keep bringing friends!!

A Quiet Night on Ogden Street (or was it just quiet in the bar?) June 26, 2008
Posted by buzzwordz in Denver, Marci Myers, Ogden Street South.1 comment so far
I might have to take back what I said about you guys last week. Last week, I had gushed about how much more energy there was in the room compared to the week before, but man, the energy was gone. We had a pretty low turnout, which I know, it increases your odds of winning. But geez, we started with five teams, and ended the game with four teams. I guess I should call up some friends and tell them to meet me at Ogden Street Southevery Wednesday evening! Ok I know, it’s not your job to recruit rivals. This game was pretty weird in that it was all or nothing. For pretty much every question, every team got it wrong, or every team got it right. I’m not really sure if the questions were just too easy or ya’ll were just cheating. Either way, it was a tight game with 22 points for first, 21 points for second, 20 points for third, and 14 points for fourth.
The winners from last week took their giftcard and ran, to never be seen again. Maybe they were at the spa, but that just gave way for another team to win. Our winner from this week was Trannies, a team that
hasn’t won before, and hasn’t played very many games. The team consisted of a woman and her husband that threw in answers once in a while, he was a little distracted by playing poker. Also from the poker table, I had a guy who kept yelling out answers this week. However, this guy always yelled the same answer, “Denver!” He added a little life to the party, but really, that’s not the answer to every question. I probably could find a bunch of questions that all had the answer “Denver” though. What is the capital of Colorado? Which city is coined “the mile high city”? Of the following cities, which has the most population.. Aurora, Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, Denver or Lakewood? John _____ sang the song, “Leaving, on a Jet Plane.” Ok, you get the point.
Just one point behind the winner was The Short Bus. They are a strong force, but maybe the number of them puts them at a disadvantage. It’s easier to argue with one person than it is five others. Still, they come back every week and have their eye on the prize. Only a couple more weeks guys! This competetive team is hoping that they win by default next week, because the nearing holiday weekend. So if you want to piss of the bus riders, you know how to do it….
The third place team was just two points away from the winning team. Boogie or the Bitch, came in third place this week, after a hiatus last week. I think they will blame it on the pop culture questions that were focused on a younger crowd. After a while of trying to figure out who the bitch was, they explained to me that it’s a political name. In that respect, I played a political song by the Flobots for the crowd.
Our fourth place team tonight, Dawisha’s Darlings came in with 14 points. I’m not sure who Dawisha is, maybe it was the person you were on the phone asking answers to. Ok ladies, I told ya the rules, no phones, that’s cheating. You should bring whoever it was to the game next week, and maybe even buy them a drink or two, for their telephone work this week. Next time ladies, no phones if you’re gonna play the game. (You might be wondering why I let it happen- I didn’t find out about their phone calls until they were gone).
Blonde Ambition, you really didn’t have a lot of ambition to play tonight. You came for 11 questions and left. You didn’t even play the whole round. They at least graced us with their presence for a little bit, but really should stay longer next time! You didn’t even make it for photo opps
I will have the scores posted on myspace at www.myspace.com/MarciBuzzwordz then you can get the weekly results.
Alright guys, I’m signing off.

Tuesday at the Glenn with Preacher June 25, 2008

Tuesday Night at the Glenn was…well, ok I’ll say it, I was late, OK?!? I’m sorry, I’m sorry I’m sorry. But good things come to those who wait because as always it was food, fun, and a bunch of merrily drunk triviateers hounding me about how wrong I am. Round 1 started as normal with teams Mad Dog and God’s of Wrong Answers dominating the field. However with their hilarious answer team Rendezvous kept at their heels the entire way. By question #10, it was a close game, but the starting favorites won out, making it a tie breaker for the miles of I-90, and winning by only 23 miles, team Mad Dog are your victors.
In round 2, team Fruitcake Interpretation got a laugh with their misinterpretation of the terms “withdrawal” and “pull out” leading them to answer completely inappropriately for the first question. How ever the rest of the round proceeded (almost) without incident. (Though Team Mad Dog thinks they’re clever by handing me random trivia that they’ve come up with…like anyone cares about prosciutto ham). The winners of the round, the ever present Gods of Wrong Answer cinching it with their knowledge, of well, knowledge.
Round 3 started with a tribute to the late great George Carlin, then proceeded with me butchering a host of Nordic names. I was wholly disappointed with everyone in the bar for not knowing their Heroes trivia, since it is (remember this it may someday be a question for a bazillion points) the most awesome show almost ever. Team Shell Bell made an unprecedented run for first time contestants, but, alas, the winner of the round, once again, is team God’s of Wrong Answers.

What a Night For New Friends!! June 25, 2008
Posted by buzzwordz in 1, Charlie's Denver, Marci Myers.add a comment
Wow! What a weird night that it was! Let me give you a preface to the night, I went to a dinner for work, which was sponsored by a pharmaceutical company. I went with a couple of coworkers and I snuck out early to make it to Charlie’s on time. One of the coworkers from dinner followed suit and came to join trivia night for her first time. Funny thing though, a couple of the guys that I didn’t even know from the dinner, they ended up at Charlie’s too! So here we are, a couple of gluttons, full from dinner, ready to do some trivia. Then of course, we have the regular die-hards, that will be there no matter what. Then there was a local dj that I think I was the only one that recognized. And an up-and-coming artist who wasn’t sure about the place, cause he kept telling me how he was straight. Really though, we were all one big happy family.
We had a few teams tonight that were new to trivia night. They weren’t new to the bar per say, but just new to playing live trivia at this particular location. But being new didn’t really put them at a disadvantage. A couple of the teams did cut out early though, it must have been past their bed-times.
Let’s talk about the winners again, then we’ll move on down the line. JETS won yet again this week. They had two members tonight, but fended off six members from the next team. One of the members of JETS admitted to me that he’s a member of a prestigious academic community (maybe that’s why they kick ass so much, or he was just trying to convince me that he’s smart but really he’s just cheating). Ok, I’m kidding. I know that you know your shit. Their team might be a bit shorter from now on, if one of them decides to move back to California. But really, I don’t think he’ll find much more fun than Charlie’s, so I’m betting that he’ll stay!
In second place, and ten points behind first place was Alleycat. They clarified their name and informed me that it’s singular, not plural, as I had previously reported. They “are one” that prowl the alley’s together. Hmm, I’m really not going to ask, I just won’t! So they’ll be back next week, to spend their giftcards that they won tonight. In the meantime though, I can bet a couple of them will be at home watching reruns of Heros, as they are avid fans of the show.
Our third place winner was a brand new team. They were new to trivia night, but really kicked ass. This group was a bunch of girls called Lez Go. They really didn’t like the idea of having to walk their answers up, but did a great job when they did. Two of my co-workers from my other job joined this team (they better have been the ones that answered the psychological questions).
There were a couple other teams that played a few rounds and left. Had you stayed, you may have taken one of the prizes. Damn it, stay next time!! Fabulous did fabulous! Actually, they were tied for 4th place, but then had to run. Those were the guys that I had dinner with that randomly ended up at the same destination. Barbie Bears, oh how I loved your name! (it was inspired by my Barbie shirt that I was wearing). You guys did great, even though you were mad that my “cousin” isn’t doing trivia anymore. So the name, Beavers, was random in that the members were men. Hmm, yeah. So you should have stayed and finished out the game, but I know how to find you both! Beer ‘n’ Buzzin, what the heck?! You come and rip off your shirt for cheaper drinks, but then you bail after just a few questions. Maybe you got accosted by an interested man, if that was the case, I’m sorry for dissin’. Becki (with an I), you won my free shot contest and then only answered a few questions, that must have been ADD, cause it wasn’t boring tonight!
We started with a few teams, had others join, had others leave, but of course, it was still a showdown of JETS and Alleycat. The tournament will continue next week!
JETS (still yet to get a hair cut)
Alleycat Justin, why are your eyes always closed in every picture??
Lez Go I just couldn’t get them closer to get another picture, so we took three
Barbie Bears
Fabulous still dressed up from dinner!
Beer ‘n’ Buzzin
Beavers (I still don’t get the name, guys)
See you next week, Charlies Tuesday at 8:30pm (maybe a lil earlier if I’m ready to go- or later if I arrive late from a fancy dinner again).
In the meantime, we have a couple websites www.myspace.com/MarciBuzzwordz and www.myspace.com/Buzzwordz
until then

Sweatin’ out the answers in Wheat Ridge June 21, 2008

Apparently some of the regulars knew the air conditioning wasn’t working but for those of us who didn’t, it was one hot evening! I was actually glad the room wasn’t packed like it has been lately. Still, with ten teams and eight finishers, it was another good night of competition and just plain weirdness. I am definitely blaming the full moon.
So, here’s how it went down. Tea Bagging in Iowa and the Bombay Manhole Killers went head to head each round all night. Fortunately, the TNON champions came through again with a great name and won their beer that way or it would have been entirely hogged by the two routinely unstoppable teams!
After all was said and sweated, the Bombay Manhole Killers eeked out a one-point victory for the overall prize. For those of you wondering what Bombay Manhole Killers is all about, google ‘India manhole deaths’, it’s a messed up story really.

Bombay Manhole Killers
Something crazy was in the water or was it the beer? Whatever it was, the Tea Bagging in Iowa team was en fuego on Wednesday night. Beyond R-rated so I won’t detail it here. Maybe they were a bit distracted by their insanity, as they missed the top score by one point. Still, a strong showing, as always!

Tea Bagging in Iowa
Back with a vengeance the TNON champions came through after a week or so off. At this point, I just expect them to be the most creative. No one else seems to be able to channel their brilliance so congrats on another win! This week they were This Just In: Kobe tries to take championship against its will!

This Just In: Kobe tries to take championship against its will!
There were strong showings by several other teams but no one could quite match the two champions. Still, a big thank you to the rest of you guys for hanging in through the hot evening and bringing your A games!

The Rookies (thanks for playing - come back again soon!)

The 11th doctor (maybe no longer flying solo after his teammate bailed to a distant Colorado town as the champs might have recruited him!)

Where is Lance? (formerly known as Team C - Lance needs to come more often!)

Frodo Baggins and the 3 Fingered Clan (better late than never!)

fupa
Woodchuck and the Clean Up Hitters deftly avoided my photography. Fine, be that way.
Let’s hope there is A/C next week and I am certain there won’t be another full moon. Enthusiasm is still welcome and wanted so bring it again next week, Wednesday at 8pm at Old Chicago Wheat Ridge! See you all then!

Best game so far at Old C’s downtown!!! June 19, 2008

Wow guys nice work showing up in force this week!!! We had a wonderful game with ten teams battling for the new higher stakes and better prizes! If we keep having these types of showings Old C’s will of course give away better prizes so keep it up!
For the first time since I’ve been hosting I had a team win the game but not win any of the rounds, The Monkees found themselves in heated competition with of course The Little Lebowski Urban Achievers and T.E.A.M. both of which won tiebreakers but floundered later in the game. Coming in a close second just 1 point back at the end was Capri 4 Me who tore up the last round good job!
All in all a great game, certainly more entertaining than the shalacking that the Celtics gave the Lakers! Thanks again everyone for coming out, keep it up. I’ll see you all next week!!!

The Glenn Tuesdays with Preacher! June 19, 2008
Posted by buzzwordz in Buzz Bee, Buzzwordz Trivia, Colorado, Northglenn, Preacher, The Glenn.add a comment
It was a nice and relaxing time at the Glenn this Tuesday. The beer was flowing, the patrons were laughing, and the difficulties were technical. After a brief delay because the S-Video faeries decided to play hookie, we were up and running with a brilliant Round 1. Highlights included team Mad Dog going through nearly 49 states before figuring out the longest coastline is in a bit colder climate than Florida and team We Won’t Win and Gods of Wrong Answers battling it out with a near perfect round (apparently no one has ever seen or heard of any movie ever called “About a Boy”). With a twist befitting an M Night film, team We Won’t Win pulled into the lead and took the round with perfect Grab Bag answers.
Round 2 saw slightly tougher questions, which of course means slightly wronger answers (shut up, it is too a word). Despite no one being quite sure on the women’s tennis champion or Pimpernel’s nationality, teams Mad Dog and We Won’t Win battled out for first throughout the round and into a tie-breaker. And of course neither team was willing to go gently into the good night, so with both answering exactly the same answer, the substitute question of “What is my Birthday” decided the round. And the winner is: We Won’t Win … (because team Mad Dog called me old…jerks).
After team Mad Dog bought me a drink to apologize, on to Round 3, with presidents of the US, Tornado Alley, and those loveable Monkees! An early setback to The Gods of Wrong Answers with a flip-flopped answer on the 3rd and 4th presidents upset and disappointed many, but that didn’t stop them from drinking … a lot, as team Mad Dog pulled into a slight lead early in the round. However, after the Grab Bag we found ourselves with a 3 way tie, the best kind of tie. With a phenomenal knowledge of the length of the Mississippi, the winner of the final round is Mad Dog.

Star Wars Fact of the Day: If you listen closely during the Mos Eisley shoot-out (just before the Falcon takes off), there is a brief musical cue from 70s arcade phenomenon Pac-Man.

A Night of Technical Difficulties, That Wasn’t Technically My Fault June 19, 2008
Posted by buzzwordz in Marci Myers, Ogden Street South.1 comment so far
What a rough start to a new gig! Just when I was about to start my first night, I found out that I don’t have a mic. Ok really, I didn’t have a mic, cords, or the amplifier. Maybe you hadn’t noticed, but I’m pretty short and can’t really project my voice very loud, so had a disadvantage there. We waited a little bit for equipment, but it showed up rather quickly following my frantic phone call to the boss. The night started a little bit late, but we finally got the game moving.
As I had already admitted, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this crowd. I came to half a game last week, and it was pretty low key. It could be that I’m used to the flamboyancy of working at a gay bar the previous night. One of the guys from there told me, “Straight bars are fun, but gay bars are funner!!” But alas, an energy finally emerged from the crowd and we had a fun night. I mean, did anybody meet the birthday girl that I ran into in the bathroom?! Or the guy that shouted out an answer, and then was forced to buy me a drink?! And those pens! Do you really want Seroquel though??
We’re currently on week 7 of the 10 week series. I’m working on putting the team scores onto a spreadsheet that you guys can access online. I should have that ready for the next game. Hmm, and maybe we need something like a golf score card, so you can keep track of your own points too, and then carry it in your wallet for sentimental value.
We had four teams that really played, and then a couple answers here and there from, ahem, a guy on ladies night. So half of the teams were new to Ogden Street South Ladies Night Trivia. And the scores! The scores! I mean, sheesh, there were four teams; two with 22 points, two with 20 points. I guess it would only have been more amazing if they all had tied!
TMNTplayed their first game. I didn’t ask about their name, but there were four of them… maybe Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael?? Hmm, or it could be That Marci’s Nice Today. The not-so-green, TMNT, tried to get extra points for being the first one to turn in their answer, but must have never heard of the story The Tortoise and The Hare. They had to correctly guess Jessica Simpson’s age in days. They did some crazy math calculation and guessed 9955 against a guess of 9800 from the other team- she’s really 10,205. This question is kinda like The Price is Right, the team that get’s the closest wins, and win they did. The girls are excited about their prize, so I’m hoping they come back next week for more (don’t the boys need a massage too?!).
One of the regular teams, The Short Bus, went head to head in the tie breaker question, but didn’t quite get ahead. These guys were excited for the new answer sheets, and so forgiving about the time delay. Like a plane that takes off late, I tried to make up for lost time, but they weren’t having any of that! The only mommy in the bunch had to be home after the game, therefore wanted the game to last all night. This team is looking towards the long term goal, it seems. I have a feeling this is their first of many series!
One of the members of Takin Hits got up and ran out, for um, perhaps female companionship. But really, how much more female companionship can you want besides all the ladies at Ogden Street South? These guys were fun and even got their workout running their answers to me. They had come from dance class to play trivia. They are a regular team that’s a pretty strong contender.
And then there was Kelly. She was playing poker with the boys, but got a little bored with that. Her guy friends wanted to play trivia, but couldn’t find wigs, so stayed with the poker game. This was her first time playing, and she did a great job of single handedly fending off groups of 6 people.
TMNT you must come back next week and tell me what your name is all about
The Short Bus told me that their members change once in a while, but their team has a couple anchors who keep the team going. I would say keep the team afloat, but anchors really keep the boat from moving. Anyhow, I know I’ll see you guys next week!
Takin Hits or was it Taken Hits. Please clarify for me guys, I mean, I wouldn’t want to dishonor your name! You must give me the scoop on the one that ran away!
And we have Kelly, the girl that ditched the boys to play games with the girls instead. ‘Cause “girls just wanna have fun!” Maybe her friends will find wigs for next week. ha!
Guys, or should I rephrase that… Girls, I promise to have my shit together more next week and not so many technical problems. Oh yeah, and I will continue those fun little answer sheets. (they give me something to do in my downtime at my job that’s more like work).
See you next Wednesday! In the meantime, we have a couple myspace pages. I’m going to put the scores up on a blog on mine www.myspace.com/marcibuzzwordz and if you wanna support the rest of team www.myspace.com/buzzwordz

And the JETS Score Takes Flight June 17, 2008
Posted by buzzwordz in Charlie's Denver, Marci Myers.add a comment
It’s only a couple of weeks into my gig at Charlie’s, but I love you guys! I mean, seriously, there are some really good trivia players here that are serious about the game, but you throw back a pitcher, or two, or five, while you play. Trivia definitely wouldn’t be that fun if everyone were completely sober. Without beer, it might feel like we were at school or something. And the deals! Really, who can pass up fifty cent beers?!
Tonight was an exciting, but humid night on the patio at Charlie’s. With the ongoing rift between two regular teams, Alleycats and JETS, they were confronted by a couple of new teams. I keep pitting the teams against each other, but really, you guys seem to get along. I would suggest you join forces, but then it just wouldn’t be as fun. I did have a suggestion last week that the teams disban and every member goes solo, to see who really is the smartest. Now I’m not going to enforce that one, because that just sounds too painful for everyone involved. But…. if you were solo, you’d get your own pitcher of beer. (something to think about there!)
Once again, JETS, won every round, and the took the game. They scored 42 points, tying their high score from last time. They had only two players tonight, and we were trying to get a makeover for one of them. Gotta love the playfulness of a not-so-vain gay man!
Even with the extra help from some out of towers from Wisconsin, Alleycats, just eked by and landed the number two spot. They thought that adding a straight man would give them an advantage for the sports questions, but they just didn’t have the groove tonight. I do believe the promised me a drink for next week though! I also would like to challenge them to land the JETS.
The third place winner was a team that just snuck in and racked up the points. Even though they guessed that “Bill Cosby” was an African American Supreme Court Justice (funny thing, look down at their picture and tell me they shouldn’t have gotten that one right). The Hot Boyz landed the third place score. One of these guys played last week, but wasn’t very serious about it, but they kicked ass this weekend.
Just one point behind third place, I wanted to mention the Ninja Space Pirates. These guys also just took the game by storm and surprised us all. They also happened to both be wearing red shirts. And even more of a coincidence, they were wearing red shirts and sitting on a red bench!
Notably, we also had a couple more teams, some regulars, some new. Us, Steelers, The Pink Ladies, The Hookers, Babbling One Cell Amoeba, and Buzz ‘n’ Beer also threw in some answers. These teams weren’t in the top scorings, but they also didn’t play every question. Come back next week guys, and stay a little longer!

Blame it on the Altitude June 17, 2008

I’m not going to lie, I was a little sad that I had to work tonight because I got about 5 offers for free tickets to the Rockies Game tonight. Normally who cares if I miss a game, right? But the Indians are in town! Again, who cares- right? Well people- ME! I care! Go Tribe!
Anyhow, I ended up not really caring that much as the Rockies kicked Cleveland’s arses. 10-2. Must be the altitude. Indeed, I am glad I came to work and made money instead of spending about a hundred thousand dollars at the ball park.
Well enough about me, let’s talk winners!
First of all if you got a prize, thank your lucky stars! Silly ol’ me couldn’t find the gift certificates when it came to prize giving time. I suspected perhaps they fell out of my pocket when I took a trip to the powder room. (to powder my nose of course, as ladies don’t actually produce waste or have any sort of bodily functions or anything of that nature). Anyhow, the gods were smiling down upon you people, they were just lying on the floor! It even looked like someone was checking them out and decided just to leave them there! AWESOME!!!!
So Epitome of Hyperbole- you my friends are the first in line to say thanks Barb for being careless with our prize and dropping it on the floor. Sorry guys. I would have figured something out if things didn’t turn out the way they did.
Stumpy- I wonder where this name comes from. You always seem stumped when you come up with the right answer, which is strange to me because you usually do come up with the right answer! Second place, nice work!
Ace and George- Well I finally figured out where this name comes from, after about the 4th time you told me. I’ll tell upstate New York you said hi Georgie.
W.a.i.t Divide and Conquer- That was your name this week right? I couldn’t find the paper that had your correct name on it anywhere. How much longer do I get to see your smiling faces at trivia? Antarctica trip is when exactly?
Well folks, have a great week! I will be touring parts of the midwest/east that are not currently submerged in a special blend of hydrogen and oxygen next week, so I will not see y’all until July! Happy June!

It’s gonna be quick and not very dirty this week, folks. A quick reminder to have your coffee before you get to trivia this week. It makes it better for everyone.
Despite the sleepy room, the scores weren’t bad overall. Team $5 Gas took round one after barely winning the tiebreaker over The Tripes. Toro toro tomato swiped the second round from everyone by one point. Then, the third round we went back to the battle with $5 Gas and The Tripes, and along with the oil companies and OPEC, $5 Gas won and won big.

$5 Gas (it’s just around the corner)

The Tripes (to be trimmed to six next time)
Third place was awarded since we had eleven teams start and finish. No quitters this week! By only one point over two other teams, Now go away or we shall taunt you a 2nd time took the beer prize.

Now go away or we shall taunt you a 2nd time
Just one point out of the winnings were both Iron Lotus and Toro toro tomato. Good efforts!

Iron Lotus

Toro toro tomato
Not less important, the rest of the regulars…

Stop looking at me Schwan

This next Wednesday at 8pm at Old Chicago in Wheat Ridge there better be some living trivia players replacing the zombies. That’s my preference anyway. See you guys then!

Hey Kids thanks for comin’ out this week! Great Basketball game, pizza and beer, trivia… what could be better!!! We had a lot of fun on Tuesday with 7 teams showing up with a couple of new faces in the crowd. TEAM played very well and we had a twosome Force that was actually tied with the Monkees going into the last question! A very interesting end to the game however with 2 teams tied for first and The Little Lebowski Urban Achievers one point back a tough question to follow on company names and origins. Little Lebowski got all 4 correct to take the game on the last question!!! Thanks to everyone that showed up it’s gettin’ busier, we gotta keep it up! See you all next week, bring your friends!

The Glenn Tuesdays with Preacher June 11, 2008

We had an amazing night at The Glenn in North Glenn this Tuesday. Venue favorites Team Mad Dog and The Gods of Wrong Answers battled it out the whole night. To start things off, Mad Dog took the slightest of victories in round 1 with only a single point lead. Let it be known that memorizing the 7 Dwarves has its benefits.
In round 2 despite an early 3 way tie including newcomers Team That’s What She Said, the Gods of Wrong Answers pulled into the lead with their phenomenal knowledge of terrible terrible processed cheeses, and then secured the win on the backs of a Kiwi and Kookaburra.
Round 3 started with a devastating setback to the God’s of Wrong Answers for not knowing the Falklands or the countries in Central America, (Yet they’re experts on Matt Groening cartoons from the early 80’s, go figure) and just couldn’t recover. Team Rendezvous, though trailing for the previous rounds made an amazing comeback, trailing on the heels of Mad Dog for the entire round, but just couldn’t quite catch, making the Corey Feldman loving Mad Dogs the 3rd and final round winners.

Star Wars Trivia of the Day: R2-D2 wind-up action figure made by Takara in Japan, was one of George Lucas’s favorite toys. Lucasfilm itself ordered thousands of them for company employees.
Signing off, this is Preacher
Cheez Whiz! Cheez Whiz! June 11, 2008
Posted by buzzwordz in 1, Barb Dittert, Lakewood, Old Chicago - Lakewood/Union.add a comment
Now you guys know I am pretty lenient when it comes to giving you guys credit for your answers. I must confess that I feel like a little bit of a sell out right about now as I feel passionately about processed cheese. Sad but true. It really has to do more with the obsession with hot pretzels I have developed throughout the years, and nothing goes better with a hot pretzel than some good processed cheese, like oh say CHEEZ WHIZ! NOT I reapeat NOT- EZ CHEESE!!!!! Totally different thing people- TOTALLY different thing. But of course I buckled under pressure when you put up your unified front and chanted Cheez Whiz. I’m so ashamed.
So I was thinking one of you could maybe make it up to me by buying me a new computer or something so we can start on time. I think that’s only fair.
How about you Baked Mac and Cheese? You have cheese in your name, you should know better than anyone there is a difference. And you keep coming in first place winning those gift certificates, so you probably have some extra cash laying around.
2nd Gear Gespato- So nice detective work trying to guess my exact birthday for the tie breaker. The me getting married to Ricky Schroeder must have tipped you off. I still can’t believe you guessed my due date, which put you in second place! Fantastic!
Team Antarctica- All I have to say that the severed head/rastafarian/eyes bugging out balloon that kept handing me your answers was very creeepy:) And don’t leave before you get your gift certificate next time!! Glad I caught you on the way out, nice work!
Smartypants-I’m glad you guys decided to stay for the thrid round, you did really well! I hope to see you again!
Bubb Rubb- We missed you last week, great to see you back and always with a few new team members!
Zoso- I always like it when a new team poses a threat to the regulars. Keeps ‘em on their toes. You did well, I hope to see you again!
Frisky Penguins- I can’t believe those crazy Antarcticans stole your mascot. They did change it to a severed head however after you told them what was up.
J&J- I must say, you guys will totally dominate when you are able to come for the whole game! I’m happy you always manage to squeeze us into your Tuesday!
Rockheads- Actually I suppose the same goes for you guys. Two things for next week, we start at 7, and tell the rest of your team not to leave you all by your lonesome! You did great, but its always good to have back up!
Thanks for coming all, and we will see you next week. 7 pm SHARP! Ha ha.
