The Gorilla Room 1/23/2008 January 24, 2008

Was it the end of an era or merely a bump in the road? That’s the question that’ll be answered next week when the previously undefeated Bort’s Bombers tries to reclaim their title. So far Bort’s Bombers has dominated every week at the Gorilla but this week The Flaming Rash squeaked ahead by one point. The Unicorns were far far behind the two top competitors, but way ahead of Team Terry, The Cougars, The Catfish and Kirsul. The latter teams just couldn’t compete. The first two rounds ended in ties between Bort’s and The Flaming Rash with the 1st round going to The Flaming Rash and the 2nd round going to Bort’s. Third round was the deciderer where The Flaming Rash nailed the Bond question and won the round and the game by that one single point.

Well what can I say, things are starting to pick up at the Gorilla Room and the regular players are establishing a pecking order. Bort’s showed up again this week and showed everyone who’s boss. They’ve won every week now. But it was close, Team 21 started tailing them in the second round, which they won, and it was almost an upset. Team 21 was named after one of there members who decided to come to trivia for his 21st birthday. Of course a 21st birthday is symbolic only since we were all drinking at 16, or in some cases 7. In the end Team 21 lost the game by a mere two points. Other teams worthy of note were In With The Bartender and South Side Moms with Showed Up Late showing up late but giving it their best anyway. See you all next week.

It was my first night as host and things went pretty smoothly, although we needed some more people. The Gorilla Room has a later crowd so next week we’re going to try a later start, we’re shooting for around 8:30pm. Hopefully we can get a few more teams to add some intensity to the game. But anyway, back to last night. Despite the best effort of Team Scott Baio, creating a tie in the first round, Bort’s Bombers took a steady lead in the second round that only increased in the third. Scampers and Toast rounded out the rest of the field and took third and fourth places, respectively.
We’re on the right track here. Let’s see what next week has to offer with a later start time.
Gorilla Room 12/12/07: Great room, but fewer gorillas than you’d expect December 13, 2007

Well, it wasn’t easy. After about an hour and a half’s worth of technical difficulties, though, we got the Gorilla Room’s inaugural Buzzwordz trivia underway. Seven teams showed up–a pretty awesome total for a first-time event (and I’m pretty sure it was all word-of-mouth once they saw the studly figure cut by their dashing host, Yours Truly)–and we had a great time rolling through perhaps the toughest trivia this side of a Jeopardy set.
We had a great first-round showing from Cul-de-Sac, who then followed a lovely young lady out of the bar and missed out on rounds two and three. Frankly, I was tempted to tag along.
Sweet Brothers, the folks behind the bar, brought up the rear despite a strong third round and a veritable plethora of funny answers. No Name edged them out by a single point. We had a strong showing from Raiders Beans, who showed up at the tail end of the first round and still managed a fourth-place finish, missing third by a mere two points.
Da Bdubbs, despite extortion, bribery and MASH-note answer sheets in an attempt to sway the impartial (but apparently sexy) quizmaster, finished a respectable third.
Runners up and winners of $15 in bar cash, the Teenage Pussy Killers attributed their name to their day jobs as euthanasia vets at a clinic for geriatric cats.
It was, however, the supremely confident Justin and Sharif are Winning who took every round and the evening’s grand prize, which was reported variously as a $30 bar gift certificate or $5 off a spray tan.
Thanks, Gorilla Room. Say hi to the other Josh for me next week.
Wednesday 9/19, Pennant Race! September 20, 2007

I know how much I enjoy the end of September because you can feel the magic and intensity that is a part of the MLB and the playoff race. Well, the crowd tonight had that sort of feeling tonight. Every round was close and came down to the last question and tonight’s winner, KNAY (a chicago cubs fanatic), only one by one point. After losing round 2 in the tiebreaker question he rallied in round 3 and earned his pennant.
We had 13 teams playing tonight. The most we have had for a single night at this location. I think everyone is really enjoying Buzzwordz and spreading the word. Thanks to everyone who came this week and I’ll see you next week!
P.S. Go Rockies! Let’s hope they can sneak in the playoffs and show us all that there is only one October.
Ladies and 1/2 Price Drinks, Wednesday 9/12 September 13, 2007

Wednesday nights at the Fox & Hound are perfect for a single guy. They serve 1/2 price drinks and appetizers for ladies during trivia and the eye candy comes out. The place is packed with hot women looking for some people to join their team.
Our defending champs were not able to defend and finished second tonight. Our new champs are 4 hot young ladies who go by “Beer…mmm” With these ladies you have the whole package, brains, beauty and a love for beer. What else could a guy ask for?
We had another great turnout tonight with 8 teams. The game was very close and was decided on the last quesiton of the night. Wednesday are going to be a great night for Buzzwordz and F&H.
Make sure you come out for trivia next week, and dress to impress! See you all on Wednesday.

Great way to start off our new night. We had 7 teams tonight including a couple loyal teams who switched from Sunday night. The game was close all night long, but one of our preious champs, the “Travel People”, edging out everyone for the title. These folks have been great through everything and never skip a night of trivia. Thanks!
Nobody went home empty-handed tonight. Everyone received a prize and we had some great t-shirts and hats for our winners. I think Wednesday night is going to be even better that Sunday and I can’t wait to see all you blood-thirsty trivia maniacs next week.
Tell your friends and family about Wednesday and Buzzwordz!

It was a pretty slow night for Buffalo Wild Wings nine teams shrunk to six by the end of the game, everyone must have been resting up for Labor Day Weekend. But we weren’t going to let that stop us from having a good time. The first round went to NCM who cleared their next two closest competitors, DOT and Tincan by two points. The second round went a little different when Munch My Body got twelve points besting NCM, SP’s and DOT, all with eleven apiece. In the final round NCM barely beat DOT by one point with SP’s trailing. In the end NCM won with 35 points to DOT’s 32 and SP’s came in third. See y’all on Wednesday.

An Awesome night of trivia! We had 10 teams tonight and the scores were competitive and high. “Sheep’s in Wolf’s Clothing” were on fire and only missed a handful of answers, and successfully defended Sunday night. We had quite a few newcomers who were nipping at the regulars heels all night. They will be back next week to try to take the title. Summer, the bartender, was busy squirting the crowd and kept her bar top in the game with round after round. Next Sunday is “Toga Sunday”, so bring your outfit. Should be a blast, and I can’t wait to see all the staff dressed up. See you all next Sunday. Check our article out in the Westword!

Alright, last night was another great night for trivia. We started off with quite the crowd, 13 teams expanding to 16 by the second round. This is the place to be if you want to prove your knowledge against tough competition. In the first round Team Farts A Lot beat The Longhorns and Times Two by a point a piece. Unfortunately for our smelly round one winners, USA-A-OK beat them by one point and Inner Circle by two. It was ok though because Farts A Lot came back in the third round and beat USA by one point and Husker by two. In the end the game went to Farts A Lot with USA and Husker coming in 3rd and 2nd respectively. Alright guys, you know where to be next week.

It was a close game tonight between three teams. Team “42″ came in second tonight followed by “One Less”, but each team was able to score a round victory. The very knowledgable “Travel People” were our overall winners though. They always bring a great game and the sportsmanship to go along with it. We had some technical difficulties, but we all still had a great time. Thanx to F&H and all my loyal players. See you next week and make sure to tell your friends about the websites!

We finally had a shakeup this week with some different results than the past six or so weeks. Last weeks champs, who had a several week long reign of terror were MIA. The good news is that Captain Voodoo (the team formerly known as Captain Obvious) is back as champs. The first round went to single player Dot who stole the first round beating the next closest competitor by two points. It’d be her only victory of the evening. Second round went to Team Extreme beating Daphne’s Dirty Uncle by one point and Captian Voodoo by two. Third round was a tough race, Captain Voodoo barely beat Top Team by one point and Team Extreme by two. For the game Captain Voodoo and Team Extreme ended up in a tie with Top Team only two behind them. Victory went to Captain Voodoo and second and third place went to Extreme and Top Team. Welcome back Captain.

Sunday August 12th
For a second straight Sunday, the Blue Monkeys (who change their team name every week) took home the pennant. They won 2 of the 3 rounds as well. This team also plays Wednesday nights at Scruffy Murphy’s and took home the trophy last week. Another great reason to play Buzzwordz trivia is b/c you can play different nights of the week all over town. I think they are trying to become the Kings of trivia for every night of the week.
Knay finished second this week losing by only 2 points. Last on the podium was the Dragonflies, who always find their way in the winners circle. It was a great night for trivia and myself, and we had some really high score all around. Our regular teams are getting to become quite competitive each week. Thanks F&H and I look forward to seeing you all next Sunday.

It was the night before my birthday and all through the house… trivia was happening. Bunds Pharmaceuticals, let me tell you about them. I believe this was their 5th win in a row (under various clever names). I think that qualifies them to write Almanacs or edit Wikipedia or something. Anyway. Congrats to them. It wasn’t their game the entire time though. In a three way tie for round one with Team Dot and Captain Obvious DBA Pocket of Voodoo, the Bunds missed the mark by 19 years. Pocket of Voodoo missed the mark by four years but were edged out by Team Dot who was only two years off. I want to remind everyone that Team Dot was just one lady.
Second round went to Bunds, who was clearly superior, beating Pockets by a significant five points. This saved their asses in the third round where Pockets pwn3d all and came within one point of a game tie with Bunds. In the end it went to Bunds, then Pockets of Voodoo and in third place, Team Dot. Team Extreme and The SP’s showed up again this week Extreme missed a tie for third by only one point.
Next week I’ll be 27, plus also have only that many brain cells left after the bender I have planned for this weekend.

On a night that was capped with F&H’s Back To School Bash, Buzzwordz trivia was buzzing all around the main room. Good crowd Sunday night with 7 dedicated teams. The Kanzaz Buzzerz took home gold, but the Travel People and Team 42 were barely edged out. The game was close all night and came down to the last question. Stacey and Summer always make Sunday nights entertaining and give me a good laugh, and I enjoyed the dirty bong water that Summer was serving. See you next Sunday y’all!!!!

Hammering Hank, a local who comes to watch his girlfriend do her thing behind the bar, recruited a few regulars around him and was able to assemble ”Hot 4 Teacher” which turned out to be a team of winners. The guys consistently got better as the night went along. It might have been the beer talking, but they got err dun. “No Clue” obviously knew a lot and won the third round, but finished a close second overall. Previous winners “Drangonflies” and “Immigrants” joined forces and minds for the evening. Foes become friends for a third place finish. Come out next week b/c all the hot waitresses will be dressed for a naughty, back to school party. I can’t wait and I know many of you will hope you have to serve some sort of detention with one of these lovely ladies. Just think of Catholic school girls. See you on Sunday! Tell your friends and family.

Sorry for the late posting on this one, guys, I lost my score sheet which is like my guide for the recap. My dog ate it, I’ve been following him around for five days. As luck would have it, my efforts were fruitful at about 6am this morning so here we go…
Another busy one at the BWW. I Can’t Believe Harry Potter Died stole the show and upset many children in the process. I wish I could say it was even close but no team could rival I Can’t Believe Harry Potter Died who won every round and the game. Team Ribs and Team Extreme came in second and third and the rest of the pack was close behind them. The SP’s, a team of very young men gave it the old college (high school?) try and took 4th place. Old friends Captain Obvious came in 5th.
F&H - Dragonflies Defend after strong 2 & 3 Rounds July 24, 2007
Posted by buzzwordz in Fox & Hound, Jason Hensley.add a comment
One of Fox & Hound’s most loyal trivia teams successfully defended their title on Sunday night. The group started off slow, but after the last two rounds, when they clearly got their back mojo, they were 1st on the podium again. We had 9 teams this week who took the opportunity to get out of the heat and test their knowledge. Newcomers, the Wingnuts, showed up and took the first round. Nice job guys! Third place isn’t bad when you are still a young ‘n’ at trivia. 2nd place went to Middle Name: Doom who changed their name at least half a dozen times. These former winners always bring it! This Sunday should be interesting and wide open b/c half of the Dragonflies will be on a boat somewhere in the Pacific (Thanks for the invite guys). Tell your friends and family to come this Sunday @ 7pm. The staff of hot women alone are worth the trip.

Another happening night at Buffalo Wild Wings. The game maintained a 10-11 team field throughout the night. Lucky Kentucky- a one man show- took the first round, barely edging out Vick’s Mutts and DJH. In the second round DJH slipped and Vick’s Mutts won the round with Lucky Kentucky and Top Team right behind. Top Team did poorly in the first round but gained momentum in the second and kept it. In the third round Vick’s Mutts avoided a four way tie with Captain Obvious, Lucky Kentucky and Top Team by one single point. Final results were Vick’s Mutts, Lucky Kentucky and Top Team.
In other news, the BWW crowd is now fully aware of how I feel about people clapping when one of the staff drops something. Don’t be that guy!

Another busy night at the BWW, we had a ten team field most of the night and it made for some good trivia.
First round went to Captain Obvious with eight points, edging out both PRC and Team G by three points. What can I say about Captain Obvious? They’re consistent winners. Of course they got the Simpsons question wrong, but they come in each week and make a good showing. The second round went a little differently, however. Captain Obvious only managed to match their first round points. They were easily passed up by newcomers The Ruff Necks, who missed the first round but were already tied for 2nd place in the game with two other teams. The Ruff Necks consisted of only two people, one very knowledgeable guy and one pretty girl (his sister?). Third round was a battle royal between The Ruff Necks and Captain Obvious. In the end Captain Obvious pulled through for a Third Round win by one point. One single point. The game went to Captain Obvious with 36 points besting the 33 point Ruff Necks. One wonders how the game would have gone if The Ruff Necks had played the first round. 3rd place went to Team G but they only beat 4th place PRC by one point.
So will The Ruff Necks be back next week and get there early enough to give Captain Obvious some trouble?
