Breck — And I am outta here… January 19, 2008

Well trivia fans, in case you haven’t heard the sad news, last week was our last week at the Breckenridge Brewery and BBQ Pit. As is the case in life, all good things must come to and end, and you all sure sent me out with a bang. 10 teams showed up to see me off (and piss off Sara) 1 last time. Thanks everyone, it was a lot of fun, you were definitely the location I liked being at most. Like I said, we’re working on getting a Wednesday night for me, to replace Breck and as soon as I find out details I’ll fill you all in.
So, it’s with tears in my eyes that I write my last blog for Breck. Three teams didn’t make it to the end but thanks to J&J, Team Not Here That Long (aptly named) and BCI who actually won the second round before getting run out.
The first round was super close with no one getting less than 5, and only 1 team getting 8. The second round seemed to kick everyone’s ass with the high being only 11 (out of a possible 17). And we actually got to use the tie-breaker in round three. So, one last mention for the following in the order of game finish:
Paris Blues: A returning team with a familiar spot toward the bottom.
Dikfors: You guys really usually represent, but half your team was missing.
Team Brinton: You were like the other half of Dikfors, but a bit smarter.
Team Bosco: See what happens when you double your team size, next time bring the grand-kids.
Pursuit Team: About an average showing, and average level of pissed off bartender.
3 Balls: Too bad you just started coming, you coulda been a contenda.
And that means our winners (with 10 players as we said screw the rules on the last night), was our perennial powerhouse, small “D” dynasty, new name each week winning team: Royale With Cheese, who with a round 1 and three triumph also captured the night and official title of Breck World Trivia Champions.
I had fun guys, and just because we’re not doing trivia doesn’t mean that you can still have a $2 pint or $6 pitcher on Wednesdays… Come see me on Sunday’s at Brix in Cherry Creek of Thursday’s at the BuzzBee!

Wel, after what can only be described as a new years hangover, we got back to it tonight (that’s right, I’m writing on the same day as trivia!) For a while it was next to impossible to find a seat in the bar. Big thanks to the cook Nolan for proving that in fact my writers were wrong regarding Raising Arizona (no love was lost since no one got it right).
Anyway, we’ve got some good choices for the Blog-o-shame tonight, but just to be sure: Milli-Vanilli is NOT being inducted into the Rock an Roll Hall Of Fame, and instead of Columbus Day, they’re not celebration “White Man Coming, OH SHIT! Day”. Now that we’ve got those cleared up, it’s on to the scores.
So the Dikfors showed up in time to play round three, and while not winning anything the four dudes got the length of Little Miss Sunshine dead on at 103 minutes! (You know how I know you’re gay?) P&B only played the first round and scored the same amount of points as MK who only played for one question!
So, of the finishing groups, Pursuit Team was unable to defend last weeks hard won title (snicker). The Hop Devils figured out about 3/4s of the way through the night that they needed more people on their team. A big thanks to Bitches 5 and Dead Weighter for your first time in the bar. You all were a lot of fun, you’re first round next week is on me!
So, go back through all my blogs and while the name may change the team remains: Check out the big brain on Bradswept all three rounds (and obviously the night, as it’s mathematically impossible not to win the night if you win all three rounds). AND, a bit of history was made at Breck with our first Perfect Round! Way to go guys, we’ll see you next week!

So, if you might have had a bit too much to drink over New Years Eve, or New Years Day, or the day after New Years then it showed at Breck on Wednesday. I can’t say i don’t feel your pain, but the only way I know to get rid of a hangover is to drink $2 beers!!! It was so slow that the cook almost won the night! That’s cool, we’re all getting ready for next week.
Not even any answers were funny enough to make it on the “Blog-o-shame”, so we’ll just make this whole post the blog-o-shame with the following teams getting honorable mention: Bar Flys, Eastern Division, Team Tapped none of which even made it to the end.
So the night boiled down to The Cook and the Chick and Pursuit Team. However, Pursuit Teamwasn’t distracted by having to do silly things like work and took all three rounds. Good job kids!
So, next week we’re gonna buy a lot of free beer and really get 2008 started like it should be. Peace out!

Now, don’t confuse my header with me thinking I’m the next big thing in trivia. It’s not that at all. the truth of the matter is that we had an ACTUAL Jeopardy contestant playing trivia with us tonight! That right folks, the kid with the buzz cut and the beard will have his episode air sometime in March of 2008. And while he couldn’t tell us much about the show he did tell us he didn’t win. One week it’s Jeopardy, the next it’s Buzzwordz (we’re not worthy!)
Well, before we get to the beer winners, let’s take a moment to salute those teams who put points on the board (just not enough to do anything more than amuse themselves): Team Bosco, The Natives, and Pursuit Team all didn’t break the bank but fun was had as always. A real surprise thrown down by the Assasinators(for real, you knew the Roseta Stone?!?) Santa’s Elves bailed during round three, but had the best worst answer of the night: President Lincoln was not shot watching a production of Grease!
So, we didn’t find out about the trivia master until the second round, but should have know after his team Of Nazareth missed only 1 point in round 1 (and winning beer in the process). They tied with Let’s put the X back into Christmas for the round 2 win, and after 2 tie-breaker questions that both teams got right on, we decided to give both beer! (Hooray beer!) After the scores for round #2 were totaled I thought we were on our way to a record score but the brakes were put on in round #3. Let’s put the X won round #3 by a point, but our resident minor celebrity’s team Of Nazareth took the night!
A great way to finish up 2007 at Breck. Good year, good teams, good beer. We’re taking next week off and pick it up again on January 2nd, 2008!!! Stay safe and cab it!

So, I think we maxed out the bar and while I am late posting, it’s not all for naught. Check this out, print my blog and bring it in this week and I’ll add one point to your score in any round of your choice! (That’s right kids, it could mean the difference between free beer or not).
A spirited game between no less than 9 teams! Guess you’re gonna have to start showing up early to get a seat. And while the capitol of Djibouti is indeed Djibouti I wasn’t satisfied enough with the answers to make the blog this week. That being the case, on to the scores!!!
Team Tapped was just that with a quick exit in round two, to be followed by Team Kant (which, despite only having a 1 x 3 sheet of paper, was able to fit an entire textbook answer for “it raises the melting point”). And The Natives played just long enough to get the Colorado questions wrong.
However! There were so many people we had to keep a sharp eye on the 6 person max limit and even wound up breaking up one team into two (see if you can guess who was who…)
In order of finish on the night:
Semi-Regular
Pursuit Team (even though they said they weren’t going to play)
Team Bosco (Just didn’t watch enough Headbangers Ball)
Bigger Dikfors (Winner of round #3)
The Dikfors (Winner of round #1 in a tie breaker)
And the winner of the night (and round #2): Why Can’t We Sell Any Of These Fuckin’ Bibles?
Make sure you bring the brains cause we already got the beer!

So yes, lots of yelling last night as the mic decided it was the night to die for real. I’ve been assured we’ll have a new cord next week and all should be well again. It was quite a night nonetheless, with teams really trying to get on to the “Blog o Shame”. The most important question of the night was: “How is Archie comics either Arts or Literature?”. In any case, Betty and Veronica had none of the following last names: McFukinsuk, Douche’, Lake, White, The Whore, or The Prude but one imaginary point to all of you who thought it fit for each. Also, when asked about Family Ties, one response was “Something is wrong with you if you know the answer to this question” yet our resident engineers pulled out both halves of the question (insert gay joke here…)
My apologies to everyone who responded to the pencil question with the hardness of the filler as the difference when the answer was the darkness of the mark. Both, in fact, are accurate answers and you can call me out anytime you want.
Anyway, on to the names of the teams who really didn’t accomplish much but we love for playing: Team JJ, Team Gene, Rip City, all participated but certainly didn’t let their brains on to what they were doing.
Honorable mention to the Dude at the Bar, No No Nanette, and Team Bosco, for making it through the entire night. We had an unusual occurrence in round #1 won by Guys in Ties (in a tie-breaker) who got their free pitcher and hardly drank any of it. Haven’t seen that one before.
But, the game came down to our regulars as usual. Pursuit Team won round #2 and finished 1 point out of first. The Dikfors won round #3 and finished 2 points out of first. And, for the second week in a row our nightly winner did not win any rounds, but the gift card went to an undermanned The “W” Stands for Worst President Ever.
Good job to everyone. These close games make it fun for even me.
I’m hearing rumors of more holiday questions making it into the quizzes so bone up on your Charlie Brown. And remember, even if Santa isn’t watching Sara and I are!

So, yes I failed to post last week and send all my loyal blogites and apology. I also participated in one of out competitors evenings and simply must ask the question: Would you rather win a pitcher of domestic swill or a pitcher of some quality crafted micro-brew from Breckenridge? That being said, only a couple of answers get in the blog this week: Sweet Caroline was not written for Carol Brady, and while Charlotte’s Web was one of the correct answers, it’s sister book Charlotte Does Dallas alas was not.
Thanks to the Dos Amigos who answered 1 question, but sat around for 2 rounds, and Team Poindexter who arrived mid way through round three and still beat the Dos Amigos.
But, last night was really one for the ages. Round 1 was a one point win for Don’t Shout out the Answers, Jackass! and appeared to be the beginning of another runaway win. However, a bold prediction made by the Dikfors that “this is our night” nearly came true. The engineering blokes took both round 2 and 3 in tie breakers earning them some well fought for beer. But it wasn’t enough, as Pursuit Teamrecorded their first victory, by a meer one pointover both Don’t Shout and Dikfors.
That was a great game for everyone involved. Thanks to Sara #3 for keeping us in the brew all night long. We’ll see you all next week!

Another big night as far as teams are concerned, and we even got a few responses worthy of our weekly “Blog o shame”: 1) Voyager is not an anal probe. 2) “Where the Wild Broccoli Grows” is not a vegetarian cookbook. And (my favorite) 3) Americans are not promised to be free from “post-coital subjugation” although the Cryptozoologists might think differently.
Anyway, 6 out of 11 teams battled through all 3 rounds in search of free beer. Particiaption points are awarded to: Pursuit Team, About To Leave, Young Couple, Semi-Regular, and Chick at the Bar. I think if you add up all your points together you might have won half a pint of beer to split amongst you all. Thanks for playing anyway.
The real deal fell out this way: The Boscos, The Dude at the Bar, Dikfors, and Dunder-Miflin Infinity all put up a big fight but no beer was won (save for the generosity of the host in making sure you didn’t feel bad for not really knowing anything). That being the case, the night reall came down to two teams: Baby Baby Ribs and Family Size Nugget. After Nugget won the first round, and Ribs the second the entire game swung on the Chappel Show question, propelling Nugget to the third round and nightly win. That’s 2 wins for you guys in the last three weeks! No longer the whipping boy of the bar are you?
Anyway, I’ll be out of town this coming week. But have no fear, as Buzzwordz trivia expert Matt T will be filling in for me. And don’t forget next week is the night before Thanksgiving with an extra special Tryptophan edition of trivia!

So, my apologies for the late post, but Halloween really put a crimp in my computer time. Judging from the attendance it did yours too. Anyway, the dynasty return (no bowling on Halloween helps) and the candy is always a good balance to the beer. That being said, on to the scores…
It really was a survival night of trivia with only 2 teams out of 6 finishing (I’m sure you all had to leave to trick-or-treat), but thanks to 2 Chicks In A Booth, Team Zissou, Team Eric, andTeam Dachshund for the entertaining effort. (Watch out for the chicks, with the dirty minds!!!)
It really was a two horse race all night long between The Team With No Name and Pump-Kin (what folks do in Arkansas on Halloween), but the night belonged to Pump-Kin sweeping all three rounds and (obviously) the night. What this team won’t do for beer. I’m pretty sure the Mexican wrestler costume might have scared off some competition, but oh well.
So, we’re back at it this week at 6 PM. the best (and earliest) trivia game in town with $2 pints and $6 pitchers (plus almost everyone gets some sort of free drink out of me during the night). Give it up folks!!!

So, after a week of record crowds there was a little downturn in the participation category this week. However, the night turned out just fine with a real dog fight to the finish.
Only five teams started and two: The Doors and RMSC didn’t make it to the end. Maybe it was because the questions to open up with seemed a little hard, or weird, or difficult to read, or the answers didn’t match, or the host couldn’t really speak English (or French for that matter). Anyway, thanks for at least a little effort.
Team Bosco always entertained, but alas this again was not their night. The team of almost rocket scientists on Suborbital Projectiles (easier written than said) won beer in the second round, but the night belonged to Blow Beer Through Our Noses! Great job with your breakout win (rounds 1, 3 and the night). It’s about time you idiots got some prizes.
Just a quick reminder for all you who don’t read my blog, due to the Rockies playing in Game #1 of the WORLD SERIES!!! next week we won’t have trivia. There’s definitely no better reason to cancel than Rocktober!!!

So, you guys packed it in last night just for a chance at some free beer! You certainly had Sara running like a chicken with her head cut off. Thanks to all our players for really making it a great night, with the following answers notwithstanding: The LWV is not the Libertarians of West Virginia, Hattie McDaniel was not in Reefer Madness, and no, I did not sing any really bad remakes in the 80’s.
Anyway, on to the honorable (or dishonorable) mentions to the teams who didn’t win anything or even play the whole game: Hoosiers (I’m surprised you didn’t stay the whole game after your big words to open up), The Incas, The Dorks (living up to your name by being there the whole time but not playing the whole time), and Bunny OTE.
The second tier consisted of playing the whole time and STILL not winning anything: The Boscos, Pitchers Fo’ Us (congrats on your recent nuptials), Duff Beer, and The Three Stooges.
However, the fight for beer fell this way: Team 911 won the first round, The Aquateens won the third in a tie-breaker, but the night (once again) belonged to Well, it ain’t gonna suck itself who won round 2 and our gift card for the night! You all need to bring your A game and then some to knock of these guys…
Print My Blog, get free beer. First round is on me if you bring a copy of this in next week (10/17/07) Peace out, cub scout.

A Beautiful night in Colorado turned into a one-up game of bad answers as the trivia grew markedly tougher during the first couple of rounds. The “Bedlam” series is not played between The School for The Blind and The School for The Deaf (although that most likely would be bedlam), Fight Club does not become The Breakfast Club, and the best worst answer of the night: The first words spoken from the moon were not: “Fuckin-A! We Landed on the Moon!”
9 teams battled most of the night for the beer and gift cards available each week at Breck, although only 5 teams made it through the entire night. A big hand to The Doors, The Dude At The Bar, Team Ramrod, and Team Steve for at least putting in some effort.
The 3 teams that finished second tier and had a bit of fun doing it were: The Boscos, Team Dandi, and Craigs Cure Cheerleader Squad. Thanks to all the new and returning players.
But, it was a big big night as our local dynasty fell in competition. It’s All Pink Inside won round #2 but it wasn’t enough to hold off Eastern Divisionwho won round #1 and #3 and the night by the slimmest of 1 point margins. And if you weren’t there to see, they were down to only 1 player for the final 3 questions!!!
Can’t wait for next week to see it the title continues to move around. Hey Sara, beer me!

It’s kinda scary when different teams come up with the wrong “funny” answer on the same question, but yes, the Fujita Scale does not measure the intensity of orgasms. And while it may be true, the alternate title to “All in the Family” is not “Racist White People” but points for effort.
9 teams for the night might have been a record (but that includes Unknown Man at the Bar who only answered 2 questions). Our two local teams Team Free Beer and We want to see Sara naked had off nights but it’s really all about the beer for them. New teams The Gout and TBO (Team Blacked Out) didn’t make it to the end even though TBO won the first round. Props to The Boscos, while your knowledge wasn’t strong, the effort to make me laugh was there.
After a great prior week, Semi-Regular fell off a little. Team Trevor and Adam (you might want to work on your creativity a little) stormed in during the second round and won round #3. They also had some fightin’ words for our champion. However, it was back to our old ways with The Dude Abides as our round #2 and nightly winner.
The games are getting closer so look for a dog fight next week. Palabra!
Arrrrgh! Tis’ Pirate Night at Breck… September 20, 2007

Avast Ye Mateys, International Talk Like A Pirate Day brings all the merry swabs and wenches out. Tis too bad Me can’t do a piratey Bob Dylan, Argh!
So, with pirate night and the ski club meeting in the back we kept Sara and Sara on their toes all night long.
Props to The Dirty Waldens for playing only round #3 and almost taking it. And a great job by the crowd for shouting down annoying loud guy in the middle of a heated game in round three.
Round #1 was taken by the guys in Semi-regular. Round #2 by It Should Be Topless Tramp Night. And round #3 in a tie breaker by Pirates Treasure Booty. Good job to Team Free Beer for at least representing. And thanks to HMV and Team Nachos for putting up a fight in the first round.
However, the night concluded with a semi-upset and a sort of end to a dynasty as team Bob Me Knob, Swabbie scored the victory without winning a single round.
Great job everyone, Wednesdays at Breckenridge are always good with those $2 pints. See you all next week or you’ll be forced to walk the plank!

You know, somedays you really make me laugh me ass off. I’m pretty sure the following answers are wrong in any city but: Ice T does not sing the theme song to CSI, Curious George did not write a book about his work with chimps, and my mama did *NOT* kill Robert Kennedy.
So, after a couple weeks where the questions seemed easy enough that if you missed 1 or two you were out of the running, we got back to a night of stumpers. I like these games better as it makes your knowledge all that more important.
It was a dog fight right to the end, thanks to Spastic Catholic, not bad as a single, Linda and Ken (and thier family) played along while they had BBQ and had some of the funnier incorrect answers. Hobo Junction seems to have the idea behind a formula down (with men and women and old people) you just need to know more stuff.
There may be an unholy alliance forming between Team Sphincter and Team Free Beer. The regulars plus my boys from Upstate are realling trying to knock off the champs.
But watch out, Team Latecomers (living up to their name and starting mid-way through round 2) took round #3 and the free beer. That means that the 1st and 2nd rounds (plus the night) went to The Dude Abides. You can change your name, but we know it’s you. I think that makes 4 weeks in a row (officially, a win streak).
Come out next week at 6 and see if they can be knocked off. $2 pints all night long. Beer good, Trivia good.

I love when people really try, cause they tend to give the worst (read: funniest) answers when they don’t really have a clue. For all of you who are curious, the chief of surgery isn’t: The Other Black Guy, the one who isn’t a homophobe.
On to the nightly recap. Another good night with 7 teams playing, 4 who were able to play the whole night long, and another who was so excited (even though they started late) that they put it on their to do list for next week (thanks Double D’s).
For a bunch of scary looking guys at the bar Team Dirty held their own on the night. The Holy Monks were only in it for the first half, but they get credit for trying, even turning in a blank sheet once when they didn’t know an answer. Our old stand-by Pursuit Team couldn’t stay the entire evening but put up a fight for the first two rounds (not bad for a single).
Big props go out to our new team of the night: Team Free Beer, the boys from my hometown of Albany, New York proved that even drunk college guys can put up a fight (and the $2 pints didn’t hurt).
However, the night came down to the usual suspects: Team Sphincter and Nice Marmot. In the End (sorry, couldn’t leave out a little rear humor) Nice Marmot pulled away, winning 2 of 3 rounds and the night. They were nice enough to buy me a beer from one of their free pitchers and we discussed at what point a bar team becomes a dynasty. But, they’ve got the formula down with sort-of-smart people who know different shit.
That’s it baby, come back for the trivia, stay for the beer and food and the Sara(h)’s.

After a week and a half in beautiful upstate New York it’s back to the grind, and trivia too. Thanks to everyone who helped Joe last week
What a great deal last night was. I read in the blog about how hard the questions were the week before and our Trivia Master definitely worked on making it a bit easier for all and the scores showed. We may have had a record high last night!!!
First off, thanks to new teams The Lizard, and Legendary for coming out. I know you guys will be back. The Dining Room finally came back to play, and even brought a sports ringer with them. It paid off with free beer. I think you said next week you’re going to bring your cute dumb friends. The Bitch did pretty well as a one-person team, but had to leave early.
It was a close race for second between Team Pursuit, Team Sphincter although Sphincter had a chance right up until the last couple of questions. But, the night belonged to Isn’t Your Mother A Well Known Whore? who took 2 out of three round and the night missing only 6 possible points!
You all need to step it up next week to give these guys a run for their money. Make sure you try the Autumn beer from Breck as they just put it on Tap this week. And as always, take care of your local Sara (h)’s.

So, I’m beginning to think I should post the best wrong answers each week, that way even if you don’t win beer, you’ll get on the “blog of shame”… Anyway, Monk Miller did *not* invent champagne, even though High Life *is* the Champagne of Beers, AND if you’re wearing a perfume marketed by Tupac, please step out the door and into traffic. Now, on to the games!
First, credit to the Snails, just cause you have ADD doesn’t mean you can’t play, and with a grand total of 1 point, you may have proved me wrong. The Four Tops learned it pays to have some other viewpoints on their side, but fun was had by all.
2nd place was a tight race between Pursuit Team, ATL, and The Sopranos as they all gave each other a run, but the night truly belonged to Team Sphincter. Taking all three round, and naturally the night also, I hope you others took note… I’m pretty sure they were drunk before they even got there, but didn’t let that stop them from drinking some more!!!
Next week we’ll see if the bar can hire a couple more Sara’s just to keep it interesting… For now, C-ya from the NY.

Ok, lets get something perfectly clear to begin with: Morgan Freeman was NOT the principal in “Welcome Back Kotter”! Now that we’ve got that out of the way, on to the scores…
What a crazy night with 10 teams playing at one point or another… thanks to the 218’s, Suzie Q’s, and Team Ram-Rod, for holding on the whole night. Your answers may not have always been right, but you sure made me laugh a few times. And remember, if you know the answer is ”The Rose” and don’t turn it in, you don’t get any points.
Sox showed a little late but got in on the action, while Dumb and Dumber seemed to have a bit of civil war during the game. Pursuit Team seemed to fall off at the end but gave it a good show, and the three guys on Team 2 put up quite a fight for looking like a picnic blanket in that plaid! The Good Guys put on a real strong show after admitting they were from south of Denver…
But, the night really came down to two teams: Damnit Greg! and Why Can’t We Sell Any of These Fucking Barbies battled right to the end, tying for round three and the game leading to a very tense tie-breaker. In the end Damnit Greg! came closest and took the title for the evening.
Remember, Wednesday’s happy hour sonsists of $2 drafts and $6 pitchers with Andrea and Sara with no “H” taking care of you. As an added bonus, if you print off this blog and bring it next week (8/15/07) your first beer is on me!
Peace out cub scout!

Alright, many thanks to everyone who came out and stayed out for the 1st night of trivia at Breck! How could you ask for a better start? 7 teams played at some point during the night, and it was quite a heated battle going into round #3.
Dumb and Dumber held a slight margin after winning the 2nd round over Why Can’t We Sell Any of These Fucking Bibles, followed close behind by Pursuit Team, Semi-Regular, Team KW, the God Squad, and even an individual in Team Larry. Plus, the Stray Cats decided it’s better to play than watch.
Alas, the third round proved to be a difference maker as Why Can’t We Sell Any of These Fucking Bibles pulled away for an impressive victory.
Congrats to everyone who managed to get some free beer out of me. Thanks to Sara(h) for keeping the crowd sufficiently libated, and a big Happy Birthday to Keefer who is rumored to have turned 108! Almost needed to call the fire department after the cake was brought out.
Looking forward to seeing you all as week 2 burns it down!
