So I must say I had a l lot of fun this week, I hope you did too!  At about 5 to 7, there were only like 4 teams or something and I was afraid this week was going to be super lame.  But then like magic, all of the regulars that I haven’t seen in FOREVER started trickling on in.  It was like a little reunion, awwww!  Good to see all you back in business, and to you newbies- we always like a fresh face- keep on coming back!

Oh and I think I need to clear something up here.  A few weeks ago I wrote something about a due date that led some people to believe there may be a little bun in my oven.  UMMMM, no.  The world is not ready for a natural disaster of such proportions.

And now for my very first HONORABLE MENTION!  Stephanie proud member of Old Chicago’s finest staff- you kicked some boo-tay!  I think Mike should get you a present.

Baked Mac and Cheese- There are not enough words in the world to express how I feel about you.  This is the truth behind my comments regarding you and your superb performance being so minimal.  I greatly appreciate your generosity this week.  I also am a big fan of your fashion statement of matching green shirt wearing.  Spray some airbrush on there and you’d be known as what we in Ohio refer to as a “Cedar Point Couple!”  Oh, and congratulations- AGAIN!  Are you ever going to give someone else a chance?

You are moving to SYDney Australia so You Can Pick Up Some Pointers on Being Supercool-  Enough said.  Second place.  I’m glad you decided to be friends right from the very beginning rather than enemies then friends.  Maybe you can be “frienemies” next week.

Zoso- I’m sorry about the whole you not getting to talk in the chat room thing.  But not that sorry I guess, because then people would have thought you were cheating and I would have had to scold you.  It’s much less awkward this way.  Bringing up the rear with 3rd place- Nice!

Big Willy- Wowee ladies- Brawn and Brains.  Look out for this guy!

Yea Yea Yea Yea Yea (or Yea x5)- Thanks for shortening your name.  This was becoming a bit of a tongue twister for me!

Double D’s- Where have you been?  Where’s Lauren?  I better see you soon!

L & J-  I have no idea who these people are.  Never seen ‘em before in my life.  I have no clue why they know all this stuff about me.  I think they are stalking me.  Barbie’s scared.

JJMS- For some reason every time you turned in your answer WWJD popped into my head.  So tell me, What WOULD Jonah do?

Lonesome Drunk-  Oh, no need to be so lonely!  Just keep drinking, I’m sure you will make some friends:)

Sexy Smart Girls- Wait, so when is this birthday extravaganza?  Next week or the week after?

Alrighty folks, hope you all have a good holiday weekend!  See ya next week!

What a crazy night!  I can tell the weather is getting hot, because it’s sure getting cranked up at Charlie’s!  With lots of drink specials, everyone was required to have a beer to play (ok, not really, but everyone still did- who can pass up 50 cent beers???).  It could be because it’s almost the holiday weekend- but everybody was cutting loose tonight!  There were also some regulars missing, what the heck?!

Ever since I took the reins, the same team has won every game.  But the other teams sure have been putting up a fight.  We used all three tie breakers this week, which is pretty unusual.  I also had men who prefer men hitting on straight women, which is also pretty unusual.  Oh what a night!!

The returning winner and also this weeks winner was The JETS.  They won two rounds, thus two pitchers, but at least they shared a sip :)  Last week I had reported that one of the member might not return.  But to the disappointment of every Charlie’s, the team had two regular members tonight.  With a much awaited hair cut and a burned shirt, they still took the other teams by storm!

The winner of the tie breaker for second place was Alleycat.  Most of the regulars for this team were out of town, they must have decided to start vacation early- but I didn’t approve that!

The third place winners had some new members tonight.  I recruited some of them from a dinner party I was at, and they joined Power Princesses.  This team was a forced to be reckoned with, but just couldn’t hack it in the tie breaker.  There were more members from the team, but due to employment and education reasons, they didn’t want to be included in the picture (eventhough we discussed just putting a black bar across their eyes, they didn’t go for it).

Sluts2 (that’s Sluts Squared) came in fourth place.  They were pretty good contenders until they drank too much in round three and just couldn’t keep up. They did promise to come back next week though.

Hot Stuff really only made it two rounds, then was “preoccupied” the final round.

We also had Team Giggy and Blue Eyes which only played round one then dropped off the face of the earth.  If you guys play longer next time, you have more odds at winning!

Other crazy and random pictures:

Michigan vs. Ohio - hometown rivals!

boy vs. girl’s boob

Free shots for everyone= love

As Al says, “thanks for the party!”

See you guys next week!

What a Night For New Friends!! June 25, 2008

Wow!  What a weird night that it was!  Let me give you a preface to the night, I went to a dinner for work, which was sponsored by a pharmaceutical company.  I went with a couple of coworkers and I snuck out early to make it to Charlie’s  on time.  One of the coworkers from dinner followed suit and came to join trivia night for her first time.  Funny thing though,  a couple of the guys that I didn’t even know from the dinner, they ended up at Charlie’s  too!  So here we are, a couple of gluttons, full from dinner, ready to do some trivia.  Then of course, we have the regular die-hards, that will be there no matter what.  Then there was a local dj that I think I was the only one that recognized.  And an up-and-coming artist who wasn’t sure about the place, cause he kept telling me how he was straight.  Really though, we were all one big happy family.

We had a few teams tonight that were new to trivia night.  They weren’t new to the bar per say, but just new to playing live trivia at this particular location.  But being new didn’t really put them at a disadvantage.  A couple of the teams did cut out early though, it must have been past their bed-times.

Let’s talk about the winners again, then we’ll move on down the line.  JETS won yet again this week.  They had two members tonight, but fended off six members from the next team.  One of the members of JETS admitted to me that he’s a member of a prestigious academic community (maybe that’s why they kick ass so much, or he was just trying to convince me that he’s smart but really he’s just cheating).  Ok, I’m kidding.  I know that you know your shit.  Their team might be a bit shorter from now on, if one of them decides to move back to California.  But really, I don’t think he’ll find much more fun than Charlie’s, so I’m betting that he’ll stay!

In second place, and ten points behind first place was Alleycat.  They clarified their name and informed me that it’s singular, not plural, as I had previously reported.  They “are one” that prowl the alley’s together.  Hmm, I’m really not going to ask, I just won’t!  So they’ll be back next week, to spend their giftcards that they won tonight.  In the meantime though, I can bet a couple of them will be at home watching reruns of Heros, as they are avid fans of the show.

Our third place winner was a brand new team.  They were new to trivia night, but really kicked ass.  This group was a bunch of girls called Lez Go.  They really didn’t like the idea of having to walk their answers up, but did a great job when they did.  Two of my co-workers from my other job joined this team (they better have been the ones that answered the psychological questions).

There were a couple other teams that played a few rounds and left.  Had you stayed, you may have taken one of the prizes.  Damn it, stay next time!!  Fabulous did fabulous!  Actually, they were tied for 4th place, but then had to run.  Those were the guys that I had dinner with that randomly ended up at the same destination.  Barbie Bears, oh how I loved your name!  (it was inspired by my Barbie shirt that I was wearing).  You guys did great, even though you were mad that my “cousin” isn’t doing trivia anymore.  So the name, Beavers, was random in that the members were men. Hmm, yeah.  So you should have stayed and finished out the game, but I know how to find you both!  Beer ‘n’ Buzzin, what the heck?!  You come and rip off your shirt for cheaper drinks, but then you bail after just a few questions.  Maybe you got accosted by an interested man, if that was the case, I’m sorry for dissin’.  Becki (with an I), you won my free shot contest and then only answered a few questions, that must have been ADD, cause it wasn’t boring tonight!

We started with a few teams, had others join, had others leave, but of course, it was still a showdown of JETS and Alleycat.  The tournament will continue next week!

JETS (still yet to get a hair cut)

Alleycat  Justin, why are your eyes always closed in every picture??

Lez Go I just couldn’t get them closer to get another picture, so we took three

 Barbie Bears

Fabulous still dressed up from dinner!

Beer ‘n’ Buzzin

Beavers (I still don’t get the name, guys)

See you next week, Charlies Tuesday at 8:30pm (maybe a lil earlier if I’m ready to go- or later if I arrive late from a fancy dinner again).

In the meantime, we have a couple websites  www.myspace.com/MarciBuzzwordz   and www.myspace.com/Buzzwordz

until then

Hey Kids thanks for comin’ out this week! Great Basketball game, pizza and beer, trivia… what could be better!!!  We had a lot of fun on Tuesday with 7 teams showing up with a couple of new faces in the crowd. TEAM played very well and we had a twosome Force that was actually tied with the Monkees going into the last question!  A very interesting end to the game however with 2 teams tied for first and The Little Lebowski Urban Achievers one point back a tough question to follow on company names and origins.  Little Lebowski got all 4 correct to take the game on the last question!!!  Thanks to everyone that showed up it’s gettin’ busier, we gotta keep it up! See you all next week, bring your friends!

Now you guys know I am pretty lenient when it comes to giving you guys credit for your answers.  I must confess that I feel like a little bit of a sell out right about now as I feel passionately about processed cheese.  Sad but true.  It really has to do more with the obsession with hot pretzels I have developed throughout the years, and nothing goes better with a hot pretzel than some good processed cheese, like oh say CHEEZ WHIZ!  NOT I reapeat NOT- EZ CHEESE!!!!!  Totally different thing people- TOTALLY different thing.   But of course I buckled under pressure when you put up your unified front and chanted Cheez Whiz.  I’m so ashamed.

So I was thinking one of you could maybe make it up to me by buying me a new computer or something so we can start on time.  I think that’s only fair.

How about you Baked Mac and Cheese?  You have cheese in your name, you should know better than anyone there is a difference.  And you keep coming in first place winning those gift certificates, so you probably have some extra cash laying around.

2nd Gear Gespato- So nice detective work trying to guess my exact birthday for the tie breaker.  The me getting married to Ricky Schroeder must have tipped you off.  I still can’t believe you guessed my due date, which put you in second place!  Fantastic!

Team Antarctica- All I have to say that the severed head/rastafarian/eyes bugging out balloon that kept handing me your answers was very creeepy:)  And don’t leave before you get your gift certificate next time!!  Glad I caught you on the way out,  nice work!

Smartypants-I’m glad you guys decided to stay for the thrid round, you did really well!  I hope to see you again!

Bubb Rubb-  We missed you last week, great to see you back and always with a few new team members!

Zoso- I always like it when a new team poses a threat to the regulars.  Keeps ‘em on their toes.  You did well, I hope to see you again!

Frisky Penguins- I can’t believe those crazy Antarcticans stole your mascot.  They did change it to a severed head however after you told them what was up.

J&J- I must say, you guys will totally dominate when you are able to come for the whole game!  I’m happy you always manage to squeeze us into your Tuesday!

Rockheads- Actually I suppose the same goes for you guys.  Two things for next week, we start at 7, and tell the rest of your team not to leave you all by your lonesome!  You did great, but its always good to have back up!

Thanks for coming all, and we will see you next week.  7 pm SHARP!  Ha ha.

Team Platypus made a startling statement last evening crushing all challengers by more than 10 points. Local Regs, Denver Danglers came in 2nd, while the Noreasters edged the Wet Beavers in the tie-breaker. New team Answer Key and Ear Tuck just missed out on the medal round. if Hotties from the Bar could string three rounds together they might prove to be championship material. Come check us out evry Sunday night at 7:30 for $2 Coors drafts.

I have to apologize to my loyal fans out there for the MIA blogs. I have just been having so much fun with my nights at the Glenn that I hated to soil them with my lackluster prose. I don’t want any of you to think that I’ve forgotten any of you, so here goes with the fantabulous Tuesdays at the Glenn!

The teams have been varied and the competition stunning at the Glenn for the past few nights. Of course we have our oft winning and always available weekly teams The Gods of Wrong Answers and Team Mad Dog fighting it out for supremacy with The Gods of Wrong Answers taking most of the early rounds and Team Mad Dog displaying true grit and taking home the prize in round 3 (and the best of the prizes) just about every night, but what makes the night fun are not always the winners, but the people there to buy me alcohol and french fries. So, Team K10 and RayRay I hope you girls had a good time and thank you so much for the graphic images scrawled on your papers in place of actual answers, Team Tommy, you guys are great, get back and give the reigning champs a run for the crown again. The Legends, UMC, Fat Thumbs, Don’t Knows, Brown, and Blue you all were fun for the brief time you were there, and remember, it’s not always what you answer, but how you answer sometimes (see my remarks for K10 and RayRay). Team Trio and Solano you guys came in late, but I don’t count against tardiness, so I’ll be looking for you next week. And to everyone else, I hope you all have been having as much fun as I have and I’ll see you all this next Tuesday, beer in hand and teeny tiny amp in the corner!

Star Wars Fact of the Day: Contrary to popular belief, the shot that ends A New Hope is not an allusion to Triumph of the Will, but in fact a very clever spoof of an obscure early 60s episode of Sugarfoot.

Well I was planning on writing this tomorrow, but since the guy that lives above me is stomping all over the place right now and I can’t sleep, I suppose now’s a good a time as any!

Wow!  Tons of teams playing!  Altogether there were 18 teams that played at some point in the evening, but only 8 made it the whole way.  Here we go…

Lakers Suck-  Yes, Lakers do suck.  Actually I have no opinion on the Lakers, although I do know that the team originated in Minnesota.  And I knew that before I was a trivia host.  Anyhow- the new member was unexpected, but paid off in the end.  Blue Ribbon once again!

5 People One Dream-  I still am wondering what this dream of yours is.  I’m very intrigued.  Would it be the dream of winning the Old Chicago Trivia Tournament 2008?   Start getting here earlier so you don’t have to sit on the other side of the bar.  It’s kind of a far trek everytime isn’t it?

Oops for You- Nice to see you again!  Hopefully you come back next week so your team name can be Oops I Did It Again  Except even better!

Ok, its very late so I just want to close here with some things I’m looking forward to next week…

1.  All of you coming back

2.  Keith

3.  Actually starting on time.  Still a goal here.  This week my excuse is that I thought the connection betwen my computer and the tv was bad, which technically is true.  Because I didn’t have the cord plugged in all the way.

4.  The DD’s and the DDD’s in a rumble over the rights to using a multiple number of D’s in a team name.

5.  J and J vs. J in a rumble over the rights to using the letter  J in a team name.

6.  Maybe moving up to the patio one of these days?!  It’s been brought up, not sure if its really happening though.

7.  April coming back from Florida

8.  Welcoming new players on business trips to the game.

9.  More tie-breakers.  I can’t believe we had a triple tie!

10.  Sicilian Pizza Rolls.   Man, those things are good

See ya next week!

I think that I would like to start off here by again thanking Mr. John from the DDD’s for bringing me something totally AWESOME!  John thought it would be a good idea to make up some new answer sheets.  They are all pretty and have lines and even a space for the team name!  Thanks to you, not only did we have enough sheets for the night, but now there won’t be any forgetting to write the team name.  THANK YOU!!!

Ok, what else here.  Oh yeah-  I feel the need to toot my own horn.  It only took me 6 tries, but I finally got BOTH the music and the tvs to work, and with no help from anyone thank you very much.  Ok, yes this is my job and I am a quasi-capable adult, but I was still pleased with myself.   My goal for next week is to not only do all that, but get started at 7 on the dot too.

I’m still feeling like there are a couple things I’m missing here, but I can’t remember so I suppose I will just move right along here…

Taking the grand prize for the evening is Baked Mac and Cheese!  So you think you can just not show up for a couple weeks and come and take all the prizes from everyone else?  Oh wait, you can.  And you did.  Just kidding, its good to see you back :)

Constantinople Thunder Train (aka- 3 People, One Dream)  I’m not actually sure who you were tonight.  I heard some sort of disagreement about someone taking your name, but then I found out you were actually friends.  But then they either left or joined your team or something.  I don’t know….   But you did take 2nd place, and that’s all that matters.

DDD- Currently my favorite team.  Did I mention thank you?  Nice work rounding up third place.

76-39-  I still find it interesting that the more you drank, the better you performed.   Isn’t it usually the opposite?

Ace and George-  So, I still don’t know where Ace is.

Sexy Heels-   Ok, so test season is soon to be over.  No more books at the bar!  It’s great to see some ladies that are committed though.

Bountiful Fountain- Awesome job tonight!  See you again hopefully?!  Pretty please?

Lay Off My Wife!-  I really want to know where this name comes from.

Mustang Marine-  You boys….  ;)

Stumpy-  Latecomers- you did well!   Come earlier next week and there is a greater chance you will win stuff!

Tobinettes-  This was an emotional roller coaster for me, you’re such a tease.  First you’re leaving, then you have a friend join you, then you leave with 2 questions to spare.   You’re lucky you are friends with Tobin.

Team MSA-  I’m glad you talked yourselves into staying.  Next Tuesay?   Like… have any plans?  I know of a cool bar you can play trivia at…  Just let me know.

Ok ladies and gents, I’m tired and I’s gots to get up and work my arse off tomorrow before I go to see the Cure at Red Rocks.   First Red Rocks show in a looooonnnnnggggg time.   Anyone going?   Look for me.  I’ll be the one quizzing everybody on Cure Trivia.

An excellent game this week at the Glenn in Northglenn! We started the night off with a first round tie between the oft winning Gods of Wrong Answers and the relatively new Drive Thru Speakers. Drive Thru took it down with an awesome tie-breaking display. Round 2 and the tensions are high between these two titans of trivia and in a final question blitz, Gods of Wrong Answers took back the title! Not to be ignored the other teams, Mad Dog, The Dumbasses, Team Rehab, and The Nacy’s all made a grandiose push for the final round with team Mad Dog, a constant force at the Glenn, brought home the victory.

Star Wars Fact of the Day: Only George Lucas knew about the iconic line “Luke. I am your father!” During filming, the actors had a different script, and the line that was read was “Luke. You are your own father!” That really confused and outraged the actors and film crew, and Lucas had to concoct a lengthy lie about a time-travel based Return of the Jedi.

After a one week hiatus to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, I’m back and I brought a little bit of trivia … I thought you might like it. :)

With 10 teams coming to the table Monday, JR’s was packed with lots of good friends and good fun. Round one started off with the constant team Sally’s Sluts taking it down with a nearly perfect first round score, though team Where’s The Flannel (WTF) and Team Clark came in close behind, and chased all of round 2 as well. Sally’s Sluts narrowly winning again by only a couple of points and all of the teams within a narrow margin. Naturally this only inspired the other teams, and team WTF tied Sally’s Sluts for the third round and with an amazingly close guess took the round title and second place in the game over all.

Star Wars Fact of the Day: Filming on The Empire Strikes Back had to halt for two weeks due to a wind-surfing competition in Australia that became an annual tradition of sorts for Lucas, and of which he refused to miss.

Alright, so here is some trivia I made up myself for once!

1.  How much does a 5 minute phone call to Animal Poison Control cost?

2.  If the dog you are dog sitting for happens to eat 18 laxatives, what do you do?

3. How can you tell if Hydrogen Peroxide is effective?

4.  Why am I asking all of these weird questions?

Ok folks, sorry, long night but the answers will be at the bottom of the blog

We had a bunch of teams participate on Tuesday at 6th and Union Old Chicago.  Thanks for coming!  Especially the returning players, as you can see we are getting close to being able to work the tv!  Ha, ha!

WFiell alrighty then, on to the results.  For the first time ever I had a tie-breaker.  Not only did we have a tie breaker round, but the entire game was a tie-breaker!

Rudy Was Offsides- Did you say “Thank  you” to The Return of George?  First he ties you for Round One, then lists the exact same answer as you for the tie breaker question.  Then he just says  you guys can have the prize.  Whatta guy!  Actually maybe I should say thank you, I didn’t have to make any executive decisions…

As for the winners of the whole game- Everyone did so well!  Sunshiners- Nice work coming right behind the 2 tied for first!

But it finally came down to 3 People 1 Dream and Rudy Was Offsides for the title.   Tie-breaker question number 2!   In the end 3 People 1 Dream took the cake (and first place too)  Sa-weet!

Ok, onto my trivia questions…

I was going to give you the answers, but then I decided that the person that gives me the most correct answers to my trivia questions gets a round for their table compliments of Barbara.

See ya Tuesday!

Fun time tonight at Charlies- mild weather with a few showers to freshen the air.  The JETS had a great performance tonight, sweeping rounds and taking the first place bar tab.  Way to go folks!

Good showing by Alleycat, grabbing the third prize bar tab and winning the final tiebreaker to earn a free pitcher.  The atomic number of Lawrencium is 103.  Go Team!  Always good times!

Great Second and Third rounds nabbed The Possible Side Effects a 2nd Place bar tab.  We’re all so proud of you!

Also making appearances, the Canadian Wendsturr, the Cockboys, Shouts with a Fist, Team Chrome and the Fireballs packed the patio for a good time all around.  May in Charlies is turning out great.  Cheers til next week!

A fantastic night at the Glenn in Northglenn this past Tuesday with old favorites and newcomers alike battling it out for the prize. Starting the night off with a vengeance, Team Gods of Wrong Answers and returning team Mad Dog went into a tie-breaker with Gods taking it down. But in round 2 team Mad Dog struck back and for the uncontested win and teams Broncos, Hooker Patrol, The Nancy, and Bag Ladies all trailing but closely behind. Round 3 Team Gods of Wrong Answers brought the prize back home narrowly defeating Mad Dogs for the 2 out of 3 title.

Star Wars Fact of the Day: Before the role of Princess Leia was offered to Carrie Fischer, Jane Fonda, Meryl Streep and (in what would’ve been a daring move for its time) Diana Ross were all strongly considered.

As always it was an exciting night at Jr’s on Monday. 10 Teams entered, but only 1 could be victorious. The night started off with a near perfect first round win by team Holy Family, a Jr’s favorite and returning round champion. A fast and furious round 2 saw a tie-breaker between Sally’s Sluts and Widow Thompson’s Tarts with Sally’s Sluts barely squeaking by for the win. Round 3 shenanigans had team Holy Family back in the lead and tied with the classic Sally’s Sluts for the game win. In an unfathomably accurate guess on the tie-breaker, team Holy Family takes it home, with Sally’s Sluts taking the silver and the previously unknown Cracker Monster coming in for 3rd.

Star Wars Fact of the Day: The Sith were originally called The Damned, but a British band with the same name debuted in February 1977, forcing Lucas to dub over the word with “Sith” in post-production. To this day, Lucas hates all punk rock.
