Dataheads Conference in town? November 30, 2008

I walked into the OC in Broomfield and the place was packed. Every table full. When I made the walkthrough asking who wanted to play trivia, everyone did (except 2 tables)! Amazing! We started the night with 19 teams. We had to scramble to make more answer sheets, so we started a little late. And due to the volume scoring took longer. Thanks for your patience everyone. And it was great seeing a lot of teams I hadn’t seen before, I thought there must have been a convention of smart people in town!
We slogged through the first round and it seemed like chaos on my end, but in talking to some of the players no one seemed to notice and everyone was having a good time. We had a couple of high scoring teams in round 1; LB Dbags, Donkeys, Abuls Snaf, Stylepointz, and Hearts Like Lions but the clear winner was Team Kenny which scored 10.5 points out of a possible 11. Wow!
We headed into round 2 and lost 7 teams but that still left 12 teams for heavy competition. Sorry I didn’t get pictures of the early-exiters but thanks for joining in the foray: Baileys Crue, Drink Til She’s Legal, Kendall Sisters, Kiss My Anthia, Team Bitter, Donkeys, and Boss.
Through a clever use of the Double or Nothing rule in round 2, Team Kenny won again, but in good sportsmanship, they gave up their pitcher of beer to the 2nd place LB Dbags, who were quite pleased. The other teams that gave good chase in round 2 were Economy Sucks, Bailey Woozles, Keepers of the Flame, Abuls Snaf, Flying Tubby Cows, and Hearts Like Lions.
It was getting late and we lost 3 more teams: The Kids are at Home, Team Thunder, and Puntang Pie. But again that left us with 9 teams til the bitter end.
And it was a shootout. Two teams courageously saved their Double or Nothing till the very last question and both nailed it! Abuls Snaf and Keepers of the Flame ended up over 20 points for round 3 but the point winner was KOTF. Good job. KOTF ended in 3rd place overall.
Team Kenny fell off the pace in round 3 but was still strong enough pull of a 2nd place win for the evening. It was worth hanging around to win a gift certificate, hunh?
And Abuls Snaf, which was just out of the running each round pulled off the 1st prize for high score for the evening. Nice job for hanging tough!
Hearts Like Lions and LB Dbags tied for 4th. Nicely done.
It was a raucous and rowdy time, and I hope everyone had as much fun as I did.
See you all next week? Same bat time, same bat place.
Ciao for now,
- Keith
Post Turkey Blues…. November 29, 2008

Well we had a little bit of a late start on the day after Turkey Day. The crowd got there a little late. I think a lot of them were still napping after shopping at 5am, and the weather also stated to get bad with the first snow of the season.
Kicking off trivia at 9:30 pm and winning the first pitcher of beer was Joke Monkey. This was the first visit for trivia and I think he will be back.
Winning the second pitcher of beer on the night was a familar face to me from The Glenn Sarah Smile.
Then taking first place over all on the night was once again Joke Monkey and taking a close secone was Raiders of the Lost Ark. These two teams were in fierce compatition.
Othere teams on the night were, Beer Drinkers Annonimous, Turkey Trots, CA Honkeys and Chick, Wanna B my Lonesomes T’s, Team Kimosabe and A2Z
I hope you all had an enjoyable Thanksgiving and got home save on the wet Colorado roads.

Ricoh here, hope you had an awesome turkey day! This is a late posting, but you’re all probably still hungover on leftovers so you won’t mind
Our day-before-the-holiday trivia session was a great one, we had ten teams playing, and some returning teams we haven’t seen in a while!
First round went to N(e)2, after breaking their tie with Us 4. Second round went to the Lone Rangers after breaking their tie with T-N-T (…they’re dy-no-mite). But the third round, and the game, went to Terry & Jim after their amazing 24 point third round to pull into first!
It was good to see the Banana Hammocks after a stint away, as well as new guys Team Kickass! See you next week.
Happy Thanksgiving Eve! November 27, 2008

It’s called the biggest bar night in town. There were lots of people at Ogden Street South last night. There were some returning teams, and many new faces in the crowd. And there was some holiday cheer in the way of Thanksgiving trivia. And thankfully, only a couple of you didn’t have to go to work the next day.
They were a new team and they had a guy on crutches. Ghetto Flyers came and stole the massages for the night. They tried to say the lady on the team doesn’t get a massage. I’m not sure how that really works… Hope to see you guys next week!
There were so many people on this team that I couldn’t even count them. They weren’t eligible for the prize since they were like 10 over quota, but they still played and had a good time. The Throat Yodlers wanted an indecent name, but I told them I had to be able to say it without being too embarrassed, so that’s what they came up with.
Studio 52 returned to try an earn another day at the spa. They were a couple points short, but had two players this time.
They brushed up on their holiday stats, but came a little bit short. 1883 is a newly sprouted team from another regular team. They had too many folks tonight and didn’t want to kick someone out, so they separated for a bit.
King Prawns had a return of a player that’s been MIA for a while. One of them had to work the next day so they didn’t get so crazy. Oh the woes of employment!
They skipped last week and came back this week, cause they didn’t have to work the next day. Short Bus returned for some trivia action and $3 Blue Moons, but then hid in shame when I announced the scores. Well at least you played, cause without playing, you would have automatically gotten zero
Two of these guys were in from Idaho for Turkey Day. They were the Super Ninja Monkeys they said that you shouldn’t wait until your thermometer says 180, but should take your turkey out at 151.
I still didn’t find out which was shorter or which of them had a J name. They brought another player with them tonight and tried to win the prize, but Little J’s forces were too little. Thanks for coming back, ladies!
They sat all the way at the other end of the place at the bar. I even caught them on their blackberry. They weren’t cheating though, they were getting a recipe for pumpkin pie!! Leprechauns must have been Irish or something. I don’t know if there was a pot of gold. I guess I forgot to ask.
Well hopefully everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving
See you next week!

Well I guess there were a lot of folks were taking a break before the big cooking day. We started the night with 12 teams. With the holiday lurking around the corner we found out that a lot of us did not know much history about the day we eat, and eat, and eat.
Winning rounds 1 and 2 and taking first place over all were Pass the turkey nuts. AKA……”Is the penis one”
The Cats Win the Prize November 26, 2008

Well this was our trivia night that begins the holiday season. WIth just a few days to Thanksgiving, I wasn’t sure about the turn out. But Charlie’s drinkers stayed true and came out in drones. We had a total of 9 teams fighting for the prize. And only one guy got kicked out while I was there.
Alleycat came and took the prize tonight. They won the first two rounds and then took first with a 6 point lead. They were pretty intense tonight, I even heard a few arguments, it went something like this, “When I tell you I’m sure, I’m sure!” Whew, the craziness of trivia competitions.
They seem to always have a different name, but we have some pretty familiar players in Team Poop. There was a little drama going on, but they still managed to take a prize. They won the game ending tie breaker and got the prize for second. Thanks for staying, Chris.
Welcome back, Jason. JT has had some revolving players lately, with just one person that was playing every week. Well this week we had the J and the T playing. They were very intense in their game and even stood to play all night, cause they couldn’t get a table let alone stools. They lost the tie breaker by not too much, and that landed them third place.
Other teams that we had playing:
Pat answered a few questions and then zipped off. I really don’t even know what Pat looks like. Well whoever you were, thanks for playing for the few questions that you answered!
They weren’t too sure about their picture taken, but Cat played for about a round and a half. I’m sure they got drowned in the 75¢ Miller High Life.
It’s not a mangina or a vagina, but it’s Pangina. With the help of urbandictionary.com, I was able to find out what that word really means.
“Pangea + vagina = Pangina ; An incredibly huge, vacuous vagina. So immense in volume and mass that it cannot be viewed by a single person’s spectrum of vision.”
Charlie’s wouldn’t be Charlie’s if Phyllis wasn’t sitting in the “bitches corner” every night. He recruited Big Ed and they were able to grab some points, but just are not that good at baseball trivia. Remember: the Jets are football, not baseball.
I haven’t seen them before, but they popped in and played some trivia. Team America tried to tell me that they can’t do trivia if they have to teach school the next day. Oh bull. You just drink a little and then get out and go to bed. So I expect you guys to play next week, or I will fail you.Was There a Full Moon Last Night November 26, 2008

Ok, seriously- what the heck was going on last night? Last night was the weirdest, and my personal favorite trivia night yet. Off the top of my head I can think of at least 3 people that got attack-kissed by a random stranger (myself included) , and those are just the ones I heard about. I also got abused verbally and physically (neither really hurt- someone didn’t like an answer, and the other person was hammered and mad at me for not remembering them from the one time they came to trivia 8 months ago).
Again- my apologies (to everyone BUT Collin) for the evening taking so long. There were a lot of you playing, and everyone was very chatty last night again myself included. But it was fun-no?
Picture time!!!!

COUNTING FRENCH FRIES Good to see you back! As a reward, you can have a gift certificate to OCs! The fist place one! And you beat Baked Mac!!!! See ya tomorrow at Turkey Day.

This is your punishment Joey. You know what you did. 3rd place. Ha!FECAL COLIFORM- Yes I know that one dude was not really playing. Second Place! I should probably have put your picture second then, huh? Oh well.

BIG WILLY and BUFFS Buffs, you should have stayed because you actually were in the tie breaker for 2nd place. Big Willy, I am glad you share my passion for Weird Al Yankovic.

NOT SO SUPER PEOPLE I would say you were super, but then Collin would not let up about the game taking a long time. I would say SEVENTY FIVE PERCENT SUPER
Ok, so at this point my camera broke (but Collin later fixed it, not sure what the problem was) and the break was over, so I had to return to the questioning.

Fun, Fun, Fun….and lucky guesses November 24, 2008

Ok I know there are people out there who have lots of luck, but to have two teams “guess” the same answer twice for beer is unheard of. The bonus question for round one was asking “What year did the Yankees get established?” Both T.I.T.S and Moose Knuckles guessed right, so then I had to find a tie breaker. So the question was “What year did the Yankees start playing at Yankee stadium?” Again both guessed right, so me being the kind loving host that I am both teams got beer.
Italian Hopscotch Mofia definatly got style points for some of their answers, not to mention buying the host a beer always gets you a point or two for good measure.
My bonus question winners of round 2 were 4th and Long. These guys have vowed to be back with more help. They were great to visit with after wards.
RTF WITH A BIG……took of in the middle of round 3, had they stuck around they would have been in the running for 1st place over all on the night.
We had two team show up in the middle of round 2 and had they been there all night they would have had the clean sweeps on the night. As it was AVENGERS took first place over all on the night by one point over TEAM TOUR. Avengers did say after Thanksgiving they will be back for more fun trivia. Team Tour was late due to the Rage game so hence their team pic.

After the disappointing loss there were only a few teams that turned out to watch the Colts beat the Chargers in overtime to keep the Broncos playoff hopes going strong.
The teams who didn’t stay long enough to be captured by my camera . . . eh hem . . . are as follows:
Teacher’s Pets
Hammer Wenches
One Arm Push-ups
The Eager Beavers
Master Blasters
and C-Fro
We appreciate you guys coming out and expect you to stay for the whole game next time.
As for the teams that I did get pictures of, it turns out you were the prize winners of the evening. In third place, playing from the dining room was Bollocks! Good to see you guys again.
Finishing second and winning round 3 was Mike’s #1 Fan who put on a great late push to give the winners a run for their money.
Finally, proving that everyone either REALLY knows their Never Ending Story characters . . . or their STD medications . . . Baked Mac and Cheese, after winning the first two rounds, held off the late charge by answering the final question completely correctly (like everyone else in the bar . . . now that I think about this, it kinda creeps me out).
Thanks again to everyone for coming out and I will see you next week!
