Good morning, good afternoon and goodnight. It was that kind of day yesterday at the Irish Pub. We only had eight players show for live trivia and we did it in speed round. Just like this post..
I brought the camera in to take pics of the teams and Ive come to find out that my camera stinks. So for the time being, no pictures will be posted till the new camera comes in from Amazon.com.
Lets start with the teams for the night shall we?
Team Walo came in first place all three rounds and by the luck of the Irish, they also won the game. I wouldve never have guessed it. Dean Wormer said it best, “I hate those guys.”
In second place was the returning squad of, The Guys Over There. They had a rough first round but actually did well the second round which is usually their weak point. Great job guys, even if your cars are built overseas. HaHa.
In third place, yet regretably last, were the fantastic team name of, Friends of Grand Master Squeege. Even though they were a little late to the party, it was a valiant effort on their part by making it close to the very end. Lets hope that their watch is correct for next time. Maybe we should get them an atomic watch that is never wrong.
As always, thanks for showing up and having a great time with us and lets see if we can turn this showing around and make it a great busy night next week. Till next time. CYA!
The Glenn Tuesday with Preacher May 15, 2008

An excellent game this week at the Glenn in Northglenn! We started the night off with a first round tie between the oft winning Gods of Wrong Answers and the relatively new Drive Thru Speakers. Drive Thru took it down with an awesome tie-breaking display. Round 2 and the tensions are high between these two titans of trivia and in a final question blitz, Gods of Wrong Answers took back the title! Not to be ignored the other teams, Mad Dog, The Dumbasses, Team Rehab, and The Nacy’s all made a grandiose push for the final round with team Mad Dog, a constant force at the Glenn, brought home the victory.

Star Wars Fact of the Day: Only George Lucas knew about the iconic line “Luke. I am your father!” During filming, the actors had a different script, and the line that was read was “Luke. You are your own father!” That really confused and outraged the actors and film crew, and Lucas had to concoct a lengthy lie about a time-travel based Return of the Jedi.

JR’s Mondays with Preacher May 15, 2008
Posted by buzzwordz in 1, Buzz Bee, Buzzwordz Trivia, Colorado, Denver, JR’s, Preacher.add a comment
After a one week hiatus to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, I’m back and I brought a little bit of trivia … I thought you might like it.
With 10 teams coming to the table Monday, JR’s was packed with lots of good friends and good fun. Round one started off with the constant team Sally’s Sluts taking it down with a nearly perfect first round score, though team Where’s The Flannel (WTF) and Team Clark came in close behind, and chased all of round 2 as well. Sally’s Sluts narrowly winning again by only a couple of points and all of the teams within a narrow margin. Naturally this only inspired the other teams, and team WTF tied Sally’s Sluts for the third round and with an amazingly close guess took the round title and second place in the game over all.

Star Wars Fact of the Day: Filming on The Empire Strikes Back had to halt for two weeks due to a wind-surfing competition in Australia that became an annual tradition of sorts for Lucas, and of which he refused to miss.

Dogsitting is harder than I thought it was May 15, 2008

Alright, so here is some trivia I made up myself for once!
1. How much does a 5 minute phone call to Animal Poison Control cost?
2. If the dog you are dog sitting for happens to eat 18 laxatives, what do you do?
3. How can you tell if Hydrogen Peroxide is effective?
4. Why am I asking all of these weird questions?
Ok folks, sorry, long night but the answers will be at the bottom of the blog
We had a bunch of teams participate on Tuesday at 6th and Union Old Chicago. Thanks for coming! Especially the returning players, as you can see we are getting close to being able to work the tv! Ha, ha!
WFiell alrighty then, on to the results. For the first time ever I had a tie-breaker. Not only did we have a tie breaker round, but the entire game was a tie-breaker!
Rudy Was Offsides- Did you say “Thank you” to The Return of George? First he ties you for Round One, then lists the exact same answer as you for the tie breaker question. Then he just says you guys can have the prize. Whatta guy! Actually maybe I should say thank you, I didn’t have to make any executive decisions…
As for the winners of the whole game- Everyone did so well! Sunshiners- Nice work coming right behind the 2 tied for first!
But it finally came down to 3 People 1 Dream and Rudy Was Offsides for the title. Tie-breaker question number 2! In the end 3 People 1 Dream took the cake (and first place too) Sa-weet!
Ok, onto my trivia questions…
I was going to give you the answers, but then I decided that the person that gives me the most correct answers to my trivia questions gets a round for their table compliments of Barbara.
See ya Tuesday!

Tonight was a perfect example of how Charlie’s is a go-to weekly bar for entertainment no matter what. Buzzwordz was the core out on the patio, turning an otherwise calm night into a drunk random Colfax fest.
Taking the crown for several straight weeks, the JETS proved once again to be the trivia kings (or queens?).
Coming back strong this week, Alleycat pulled a Tiebreaker pitcher (about OPEC oil production), and nabbed Second Place- nice work folks!
Newcomers Studmuffin raked in 3rd Place bar tab, while nursing “Random Drunk Lady” most of the Third Round. Thanks for keeping her contained!
The Retard Junction won hands down best team name. See you soon!
Warm springs and fun times at the unpredictable smoky Charlie’s Patio.
Cheers folks! Tory

OK, so I expect to hear from all of you that you have been waiting with bated breath for this week’s blog when I see you Wednesday. I thought I had lost my ghetto scoresheet but it turned up so your wait is over. BTW, my ceiling is fixed, my house is back in order, and my printer is once again available so this coming Wednesday I will be back up to par.
It was a night of great team names and solid competition with a new challenger. Four teams were tied at the end of round two but the third round belonged to newbies Shut the Fuque Up and 5 German Babies in a Freezer. After tying for the final round and final score, the 5 German Babies team pulled out the tiebreaker win! Nice job to both teams!!

5 German Babies in a Freezer

Shut the Fuque Up
Winners of the Team Name of the Night went outside the usual current events box with Ru Paul is so hot… she’s a dude? Give me another beer… I’d still do her! This week I went back to player’s choice and that was nearly unanimous!

Ru Paul etc., etc.
Another clever name of the night was the “stick pony” team. They drew a stick pony and since I am not as good at deciphering symbols as the artist formerly known as Prince and once again as Prince, I didn’t know what to call it until they spelled it out for me. Clever, though. Props.

Our other notable teams:

Dungeon Daddy Day Care (my choice for team name of the night)

8 Bells Tolls for Thee

Team X

Paragraph long team name

Clogged Toilets

Wolverine, Badger and 2 Gophers
There you have it! Another rockin’ night at Old Chicago in Wheat Ridge! Looking forward to a great summer of trivia. See you Wednesday at 8!

Hello everyone, its Luigi, your favorite live trivia host writing the blog from my easy chair as last night was a raucous evening.
We had six teams show and it was a showdown of epic proportions as we had to use two tiebreakers for the first time ever!
Team The Lovely Ladies of Lacrosse came in first place and yes they were indeed lovely. Talk about handling a stick! They came down to party and party the ladies did. The second and third rounds were a butt kicking all around, good thing since the first round didnt do them any favors. Im hoping that they come back soon, even with their husbands whom they kicked to the curb in favor of actually winning. Great job ladies..
In second place by only three points was The Guys Over There. They are becoming quite the regular squad and its only getting better as they are oh so close to being overall champs. But they did win round two and got free beers for their effort. Its always a plus when they show up because they are one knowledgeble group. Great job guys!
In third place, The Regulars, did really well with only two players. And yet, only missing out by six points to be in first place. They did have a tie breaker question in the first round and they were close, but not close enough. I think I bought them a mercy beer..
Much thanks to our Hosts, Carl and Kelly. Without their generosity, we wouldnt have a place to have much fun on Wednesday nights. Hope to see all of you and your friends at Pogue Mahones next week.
Tuesday’s at The Glenn with Preacher May 7, 2008

Tuesday was a night of hope, joy, and crushing defeat for some of the teams, but everyone’s always a winner when we’re drinking heavily and enjoying the dulcet tones of…well, me, over a marginal sound system. None of that concerned the teams at The Glenn on Tuesday however, the competition was vicious and trivia, trivial as always.
The round one victor and perennial champion was Gods of Wrong Answers with their unholy mix of ridiculous geography knowlege and children’s playtoys, they’re a tough team to beat. Their first round win was narrow, but they justified it with a sweeping round two, leaving the competition in the proverbial dust. But round three was not happy for these Mighty Caseys of Buzzwords. The Mad Dog’s struck back after a faltering God’s of and took the final round by a behemoth margin. Also playing their little hearts out were returning team The Nancy’s/Babaganushe and new comers team HatSkirt (I got to name them :))

Star Wars Fact of the Day: Billy Dee Williams was the first American of African decent to play a main roll in a science fiction film.

Fun time tonight at Charlies- mild weather with a few showers to freshen the air. The JETS had a great performance tonight, sweeping rounds and taking the first place bar tab. Way to go folks!
Good showing by Alleycat, grabbing the third prize bar tab and winning the final tiebreaker to earn a free pitcher. The atomic number of Lawrencium is 103. Go Team! Always good times!
Great Second and Third rounds nabbed The Possible Side Effects a 2nd Place bar tab. We’re all so proud of you!
Also making appearances, the Canadian Wendsturr, the Cockboys, Shouts with a Fist, Team Chrome and the Fireballs packed the patio for a good time all around. May in Charlies is turning out great. Cheers til next week!

A fantastic night at the Glenn in Northglenn this past Tuesday with old favorites and newcomers alike battling it out for the prize. Starting the night off with a vengeance, Team Gods of Wrong Answers and returning team Mad Dog went into a tie-breaker with Gods taking it down. But in round 2 team Mad Dog struck back and for the uncontested win and teams Broncos, Hooker Patrol, The Nancy, and Bag Ladies all trailing but closely behind. Round 3 Team Gods of Wrong Answers brought the prize back home narrowly defeating Mad Dogs for the 2 out of 3 title.

Star Wars Fact of the Day: Before the role of Princess Leia was offered to Carrie Fischer, Jane Fonda, Meryl Streep and (in what would’ve been a daring move for its time) Diana Ross were all strongly considered.

As always it was an exciting night at Jr’s on Monday. 10 Teams entered, but only 1 could be victorious. The night started off with a near perfect first round win by team Holy Family, a Jr’s favorite and returning round champion. A fast and furious round 2 saw a tie-breaker between Sally’s Sluts and Widow Thompson’s Tarts with Sally’s Sluts barely squeaking by for the win. Round 3 shenanigans had team Holy Family back in the lead and tied with the classic Sally’s Sluts for the game win. In an unfathomably accurate guess on the tie-breaker, team Holy Family takes it home, with Sally’s Sluts taking the silver and the previously unknown Cracker Monster coming in for 3rd.

Star Wars Fact of the Day: The Sith were originally called The Damned, but a British band with the same name debuted in February 1977, forcing Lucas to dub over the word with “Sith” in post-production. To this day, Lucas hates all punk rock.

Strange trivia to finish a strange April May 1, 2008
Posted by buzzwordz in Jen Hoppe, Old Chicago - Wheat Ridge, Wheat Ridge.add a comment
The good news is that the snow might be done for the season. And the Avalanche did win the first round of the playoffs. Otherwise, it’s been a rough April for the Rockies and the Colorado fans. There is no explanation for the oddities of the trivia last night so let’s just look forward to a beautiful May (my birthday month, so it should be) and the Rockies getting their bats going.
It was an odd night at Old Chicago Wheat Ridge, and it was crazy busy again at the same time! Great energy last night people! You make it so easy to go to work.
The team name of the night wasn’t left to the folks vote as I usually do. I made an executive decision instead. The winner was… Team X but…we should win for sticking with “X” and not selling out for a pitcher of beer. For not selling out, they got the pitcher.

Nice work. But, no, it won’t fly again.
Last’s weeks killer one-man team, the Illiterate Peasant returned with reinforcements, this time they called themselves Montezuma’s Revenge (what is the deal with the digestive issues? see past posts for an explanation) and started out with a perfect (including the bonus point) first round. It looked like it might be a scary night for everyone else, but the other 13 teams came on strong in the second round and they fell to 4th overall.

That’s the elusive “Illiterate Peasant” on the left.
The always competitive, 99% of the time all-female team Albert Hoffman’s Last Trip, came on strong in the second round and won the tiebreaker to get the beer. New team, the Undergarment Girls were their main competition for that round and the remainder of the game. Though the Albert Hoffman team won the third round, on the very last question, they tied for the top overall score and then lost the final tiebreaker to the Girls. Great competition last night!!

The Undergarment Girls, they almost left before it was over.

Albert Hoffman’s Last Trip. It was women vs. women last night. Sorry you missed it.
Just barely finishing out of the winnings, was Loose Lips “Bruce”sters. Another good team name from you guys. Two points behind the winners is not bad at all. See you next week!

The Guys at the Bar returned to their old bar stools and their old name, but not their old dominance. They definitely need the ladies back to help now. They definitely got beaten badly by women last night. (I’m sure they liked it actually.)

Cleverly named Answers and Copying Answers threw me off at first. See, Answers was the first team name when they had less than six players, then when the rest of their friends showed up, they split into Answers and Copying Answers and I was confused, momentarily. Anyway, regardless of the copying (or not) they just enjoyed the odd trivia about white people and birds and didn’t mind not winning much.

Our usual first round winners jinxed themselves this week, I think, with their team name, Winners don’t chug the free pitcher before the 2nd round starts. This was the first week in at least three that they didn’t win that pitcher. Next time, new team name.

The Wings team, yes, named for the evil Red Wings, actually was sneakily named by a rogue member of the team. I’ve been informed that he will no longer be invited. We shall see.

That’s him on the far right. Naughty.
With a strong showing but only two players makes it tough with competition like last night, the Cheezits team did well, but like the Rockies, just can’t quite close the deal these days.

Team Towelie, hiding in the back, made a strong showing but it was tough against the ladies last night.

New teams Spastic Burps and In it 2 win it almost made it to the end but not quite. Thanks for playing and hope to see you again soon!

Spastic Burps

In it 2 win it
Unfortunately I didn’t get a picture of Yo Mamma, they finished quite strong after starting in the 2nd round nearly winning the third round. Next time I’ll get you guys.
So, thanks again for an outstanding night of trivia! The snow waited until today so things are looking up. Here’s to a great May!
See y’all next week,
Jen

Hey everyone we had a great third week in existence over here at Old C’s! We had 5 teams that played throughout with the Girl’s Team coming up victorious in the end! The Lone Rangers and the Squirrel Bandits played a very tight game however and tied for that next spot, with Pimp Squad only 2 points behind!! Great close game!
We will by many people’s request be starting at 8pm next week like the flyer said, I feel it’s better for everyone. Hopefully that means more people can come so bring your friends, tell your friends! We can make this a great way to end the ever so coveted “hump” day!!! Thanks again

Challenging yet so satisfying. No I’m not talking about my love life, but last nights trivia session. It turned out to be a great evening for everyone that played as copius amounts of liquid beverage refreshment was poured. Even the Vice Squad showed up to see what the commotion was.
We had five teams show and the top three teams by the end of the night were only a few points apart from all claiming the grand prize, a 25$ gift certificate provided by our hosts.
The winning team, The Guys Over There, trounced everyone in the second round and by the third round were holding a three point lead to grab the final prize. I have to give them a round of applause for the best answer of the night. The question had to do about three King Kong movies, and their answer was, “Three girls, one Kong”. I about fell out of my chair. Classic..
Now I know Im gonna get some feedback on the winning team because the team of Harlem Crackheads, actually did win, but since they are employed by the bar, they couldnt take the prize. So we will officially recognize them as coming in second place, but we know who the real winners are.. Mike and Megan are officially on the clock as the best brother/sister team since Reggie and Cheryl Miller played basketball in college and the pros. If you have any questions about transvestites, ask Mike, he knows. Megan really knows her trivia, good partner if you can get her.
The last team that came in the money was the fabulous looking duo of McMom/McDaughter. If anyone can get me their numbers, that would be a beverage to that person. Lol. They have come in almost every week and its always a treat to have them playing as both of them know their trivia well. For the second week in a row, the lovely ladies have come oh so close to winning the main prize, but I do make sure that they are well taken care of with beverages. Next week I know that they will come in first place as long as the second round doesnt do them in like it has the previous three weeks.
Thanks for everyone showing up and not giving me to much grief on the questions. I cant wait to see everyone there again next week as we kill more brain cells.

Awesome time at Tuesday Trivia! Such nice weather and a huge crowd.
With a full seven teams playing it through, competition was tough. Three different winners of round pitchers, and a fourth non-round winning team placing too! Lots of Tiebreakers is always suspenseful.
Although defeated in the second round Tiebreaker, the Royals had great scores every round and won the 1st place prize. Amazing persistence- great having you!
Congrats to Round 2 Winners Alleycat! Eeking out a closer guess to the average January Cairo temperature (a measly 64 degrees), these guys got really drunk for no money and learned a few things! Sounds like good deal to me. Always great times guys!
Lisu took the first round, and squeezed into the 3rd place victory slot. Props folks!
Solid as always, the JETS vaulted into 2nd place with a super third round score. Way to go team! The Mishaps, Something Different and Team Blah Blah all also got really drunk for the cost of a load of laundry…
I’m looking forward to a great month of weather, trivia, good company and insanely cheap beer at Charlies on Tuesday nights!
Cheers, Tory

Thanks to everyone for having your Red Bulls before coming to trivia at Old Chicago this week! I’m sure it was the gorgeous weather that made you all come alive again, not your humble hostess Jen, but whatever it was I am grateful.
Some good team names this week too! You guys are finally learning or maybe you just really need free beer now since gas prices are so high. Anyway, the competition will continue!
Congrats to Pimp my Pope for the audience-selected team name of the week! Plus they won the overall prize despite a very strong showing from a one-man team.

Illiterate Peasant usually has a bigger team, but with eleven points in round two and the win for that round, he was a force to be reckoned with all on his own. Nicely done! (He didn’t want his picture taken.)
The third round determined the overall prizes as usual, and we had two teams tied for the $15 second place prize: Soylent Green is Charlton Heston and Team Camel Toe. The tiebreaker was close, but Camel Toe took the prize.

Soylent Green

Camel Toe
Winning the first round has become a habit for Douglas Bruce Kicked me and all I got was this lousy team name but that’s the end of their dominance each week. Again, I’m sure it’s all about getting that early beer.

Two teams had absolutely no confidence in themselves but played anyway and that’s always appreciated. So, thanks anyway to We’re going to lose and No Expectations.

We’re going to lose

No Expectations
It was good to see Team C back and Team X back! I missed you guys!

Again, thanks for the enthusiam this week! Sorry again for the late post. I still don’t have a ceiling but that’s only my problem. See you guys on Wednesday!
